this essay presents a reflection on the increasingly frequent use of urban space as a mechanism to strengthen and perpetuate neoliberalism in the individual's worldview. Dr. Franz Hinkelammert is referred to as the main theoretical reference of critical thinking who, in an acute way, has unraveled and exposed to neoliberal doctrine, when studying its multiple manifestations. From this doctrine, it highlights the main aspects that settle the Costa Rican territorial planning, its authors and corresponding goals and practices are identified. Finally, the need to incorporate architecture into the humanistic vision is elucidated, as an emancipatory discipline that contributes to the recovery of the human being subjugated by the market, liberal deity of the present century.

The zarzuela is a Spanish musical genre that had its origin in the XVI century. It is included in the performing arts and is basically divided into large zarzuela and small gender. The time of its rise and splendor was in the nineteenth century. In Costa Rica it is known from 1850. Later they were recreated by some national musical composers since since its inception they had great acceptance for being stage-musical works expressed in Spanish. Without strictly following a musicological or musical technical criterion, this work is more a collection of scattered data about national composers who dabbled in the field of zarzuela or modest scenic-musical works grouped as zarzuelas or as a small genre, so celebrated and liked in Spain. With the above it was wanted to demonstrate that in Costa Rica this musical genre had its exponents and that with very good tino they gave the Costa Ricans the best of their effort.

The essay deals with the critical approaches to the poem “Los zapaticos de rosa” by José Martí, an antologable text within all his poetry. These are the grains of knowledge in which the poems of La edad de oro are composed, disseminated with precision and subtlety in the Various issues of the magazine, since its release, quickly  attracted the attention of readers and, above all, of writers, who in uggestive statements left a glimpse of the marrow of these poetic pieces. It analyzes those essays that have considered it a poem or short story in verse, and those who have repaired in their original tropological universe from their departure to contemporaneity.

Through an enquiry about social representations of labor in call-centres, in Costa Rica, this article presents elements of a discussion with regards to the tension between the historical promise of growing welfare for workers thanks to labor, on one side, and the market, where labor tends to be consider as a factor of production and a commodity, on the other. The reach of higher education and its interweaving with labor are also discussed. It is concluded that said tension may be interpreted as an aspect of the resistance towards the market as the organizing institution of social life, within the frame of the style of development launched in the mid-1980s in Costa Rica.

Indian Chronicles usually idealize the space they describe as a form of reclamation, to show the benefits of the territory. Also, they can present Nature as wild and untamed so to explain the difficulties of Conquest. A good example of this is Desengaño y reparo de la guerra del reino de Chile (1614), by Alonso González de Nájera, a heterogeneous work that mixes the natural and moral treatise of the Austral territory and its people with the chronicle or narrative of events; treatise of captivity but at the same time means or memorial to win the Arauco war. Space plays a vital role here: on the one hand, the author uses it to flaunt the beauties of the distant territory of Chile; on the other shows how the rough and wild land provides the Indians with insurmountable advantages in war.

In this article an analysis is presented around the elements of the field such as, for example, the earth, the rivers, the scree, among others, that are used metaphorically in Campos de Castilla (1912), to give a negative nuance or distressing the bucolic space of the poems, which in turn marks or influences the mood of the lyric self. In this study, we take into account the convulsive socio-historical backdrop in Spain during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. In order to associate text-society, the theory of socio-criticism is taken into account. In turn, the elements of nature, immersed in the poems are analyzed from the symbolism, using as base the dictionaries of Chevalier and Cirlot symbols.
