This article presents the results of a research, which looks for complement the literatures about the social construction of the representation crisis that Mexican democracy goes through. For this purpose, a comparative analysis of political trajectories of participants in a contentious group, Congreso Nacional Ciudadano (Conaci), in Mexico City, is made. The article shows how this crisis is constructed biographically, and how biography connects to collective action and the Mexican political system. In addition, it explores the position of the analyzed group, conceptualized as post-partisanship utopia. Finally, it tentatively verifies the hypothesis of an irreversible biographical transition from the discredited partisan political system to an attachment to an utopian nonpartisanship.

In this article, the objective is to analyze the relationship between the labor formalization process and the reduction of wage inequality that was registered in Argentina in the period 2003-2014, and to provide evidence about the way and scope in which these variables are related. The premise is that labor formality guarantees the extension of the coverage and operation of other labor institutions. The methodologyproposed by Firpo, Fortin and Lemieux is implemented, based on what is known as Recentered Influence Function (RIF) regressions. It was found evidence to support the hypothesis linking the reduction of wage inequality with the increase in the formalization of salaried workers in Argentina.

This paper aims to determine the effects of economic growth on inequality and poverty in the municipalities of the state of Nayarit, Mexico, in the period 1990-2010. The municipal evolution of each one of the variables is analyzed using inferential statistics, and the type of relationship between them is determined. Through linear regressions, its intercausality is established. The conclusion is that there is an inverse relationship between economic growth and the three types of income poverty, and a direct relationship between the first (represented by expansion rates of gross domestic product per capita) and income inequality.

This article reviews the role of independent candidates in contemporary democracy as in the preservation or renewal of partisan systems. As premise, there is a perception that the parties retain as far as possible a protectionist partisan system, or the so-called partidocracia, which is ultimately based on the monopoly of the candidacies and therefore on the representation and access to public power. The article shows that faced with this image of a corrupt and narrowly amalgamated political society, not only is there political indifference and electoral apathy, but also the figure of the non-partisan citizen, whose mission would be to displace corruption from the field of politics to parties and politicians alike. The text also analyzes how the image of independent candidates has been built as an alternative to the partisan oligarchy.

This article explores the recent hypothesis of a moral demand on Mexican politicians. Studies and statistics are used as a basis to show social political disenchantment, and we anticipate how morality is valuable but vulnerable, and how any transgression generates animosity. Durkheim’s theory, interviews and a survey integrate methodology. We concluded that as political figures are public and elected, they are subjects of intense moral scrutiny beyond their official and legal functions.

This article examines the economic, social and political context in which a strategic collaborative project based on the Triple Helix model to boost regional development emerges. The creation of a collaborative effort between public research centers to develop supply chains for the automotive and auto parts industry is taken as an example. It is used the case of the process of creation of the Center of Innovation and Technological Transfer of Aguascalientes for the Automotive Sector (CITTAA), in Aguascalientes, Mexico. The descriptive analysis emphasizes the time it took to set up the proposal, the short duration of a six-year term for the goal of promoting regional economic development, and the difficulties of establishing and promoting articulated collaboration between the actors of a triple helix.

This article analyzes the Argentinan parliamentary opposition in legal reform debates between 2009 and 2010, that searched to extend rights concerning to communicative and sexual citizenship in that country. From analysis of interventions in the Congress’ voting sessions, the paper proposes two categories to describe strategies of displacement of the parliamentary opposition: displacements by procedures flaws and displacements by political feuds. Both categories group discursive operations that question the democratic institutions based on external factors, displace the object of legislative debate and seek the annulment of parliamentary debate.

This article is based on the methodological tensions recorded in the recent literature on pre-electoral coalitions between quantitative studies and the empirical records of elections where theoretical expectations are not met. In order to find the reasons for this anomaly, it is proposed to identify the factors that inhibit the effect of independent variables –the so-called causal mechanisms, based on case studies. In this sense, the article exposes the methodological turn in this regard, after reviewing the limitations of quantitative studies and the need to complement them from a qualitative approach. Through an example of intentional selection of observations, the richness of the methodological exercise for subsequent studies is visualized. It is concluded that the typical, atypical, typical-atypical contrast and maximum variation cases can refine the knowledge about the mechanisms and conditions that enable pre-electoral coalitions.

Given a growing interest in promoting social participation in education through voluntary work, the aim of this article is to analyze the main characteristics, life satisfaction and values of eight hundred sixty eight volunteers who participated in the Independent Measurement of Learning project (mia, by its initials in Spanish). The objective is to think about strategies to promote volunteer work as a way to improve education and raise personal benefits. To analyze the results, qualitative and quantitative methods were used. The results indicate that mia volunteers are infrequent, oriented to campaigns, instrumental and have high levels of life satisfaction and personal values. The need to promote volunteer work is discussed and it is emphasized that the educational theme has a strong capacity for mobilization.
