Background: The real meaning of the term nomophobia remains somewhat obscure in studies assessing this disorder. There is an increasing interest in further exploring nomophobia: however, currently available measuring tools appear to only address mobile phone abuse and/or addiction. The objective of this study was to create a Spanish-language instrument to measure nomophobia. Methods: We developed an 11-item scale that we administered to 968 participants drawn from the population of Granada (Spain). We first performed an Exploratory Factor Analysis. After assessing the nomological validity of the scale, we conducted a Confirmatory Factor Analysis. Results: The Exploratory Factor Analysis revealed a three-factor structure. Factor 1 (Mobile Phone Abuse) comprised five items that described 19% of the variance; Factor 2 (Loss of Control) comprised three items that explained 12% of the variance; and Factor 3 (Negative Consequences) comprised three items that explained 10% of the variance. Cronbach's Alpha reliability coefficient was 0.80. Limitations: Nomophobia is a modern disorder that has yet to be classified as a disease. Self-report measures are affected by biased replies, and therefore the presence of confounders may be a potential issue. Conclusion: This scale is reliable and valid. It provides future researchers with the means to measure nomophobia in the Spanish population.

Sexting is the creation and exchange of text messages, videos, images or photos with personal sexual content using new information technologies. The objectives of this study were to analyze the prevalence of sexting in adolescents, on one hand, and if there were differences by gender and age in adolescents and to examine whether the dark personality and emotional problems were predictors of the behaviors of sexting, on the other hand. An intentional sample of 722 adolescents between 12 and 18 years old (56% male) in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires and Paraná, Argentina was constituted. Participants completed a sexting questionnaire, measures of emotional problems (depression and anxiety) and a dark personality scale. The results indicated that a prevalence of sexting was: 17.6% (written messages), 18% (pictures), 6.9% (videos), and 21.5% (total). Significant differences were found between males and females due to higher levels of males in sending written messages and for the total. Also, the older the adolescents, the sexting behaviors increased linearly. Results indicated that dark personality -Machiavellianism-, anxious and depressive symptomatology were significant predictors of sexting.

The objectives of this study were to analyse the relationship between psychopathological problems and mobile phone and internet abuse in adolescents, and whether certain variables that offer protection from psychopathological problems also offer protection against this type of abuse. We administered two questionnaires that measure such abuse. The study included a sample of 269 adolescents aged between 12 and 18 years (124 boys and 145 girls). The YSR, CERI, and CERM questionnaires were used to measure psychopathology, internet abuse, and mobile abuse, respectively. The results showed that the abuse of new technologies is particularly related to externalizing symptoms and attention deficit. It was found that variables such as the number of clubs to which the participants belonged, their relationship with parents, autonomy, and school performance in science are protective variables against mobile phone and internet abuse. At the age of 15 years, there was a significant increase in the use of these technologies and their associated psychopathological problems.

The integration of information and communication technologies in daily life has facilitated human life, but it has also produced new problems derived from maladaptive or addictive use. In the case of young populations, it has been observed a few cases seem to present a problem of abuse or addiction to the internet, regardless of the device (for example, problematic mobile phone use). For this reason, in 1996 the Internet addiction construct was coined in the field of psychiatry which, although it has not yet been formally recognized, it has evolved into more specific terms depending on the use of technologies and applications which can generate addictive behaviours. In this Spanish monograph, six empirical works are described which show the scope of these addictive problems and their nature: problematic mobile phone use (e.g., nomophobia, sexting), Facebook addictive use; as well as the underlying cognitive and emotional mechanisms of these problematic uses, their risk and protective factors, and even prevention strategies. After 25 years of psychological research, the problems arising from the misuse of these technologies is still under debate, as remains a clinical entity and the need to develop better understanding about what these problems are, how to detect them in most vulnerable groups, and how to treat or prevent them in order to minimize the possible harm they may cause. In summary, this monograph includes details of how internet addiction is presented, seems to be developed, can be measured, and intervened in countries of southern Europe and Latin America.

AbstractThe Royal Sites became places of special characteristics which in many occasions were not recorded in the historical cadastres. It is not the case of the Ensenada cadastre that, except for the five major Royal Sites, recorded those places as well as the goods and rents of the Crown. In this paper we study three minor Royal Sites (the Alcázar, Royal Alcazares, the Alhambra Royal Fortress)  and the rest of the King’s properties located in the cities of Toledo, Seville and Granada.
