The objective of this research is to analyze the behavior of global container traffic during the last decades by studying its behavior with respect to the economic cycle. For this, a dynamic econometric model is estimated for a panel of 49 countries during the period 2000-2016 that allows us to identify the short and long term relationships between maritime container traffic and economic activity measured by the volume of total international trade and international merchandise trade.

The feminisation of the veterinary profession has experienced an upward trend in the last decade, although its positive consequences have been affected by two economic factors: the economic crisis that began in 2008 and the increase of the VAT tax rate to the veterinary services implemented in September 2012. The purpose of this paper is to analyse the effects of the second factor on employment and working conditions in the sector and to determine if this factor may have played a role in creating this gender pay gap.

The main purpose of this paper is the classification of the Spanish ports of general interest using a set of indicators related to port activity such transport of goods and passengers, infrastructures, and port services. The information has been mainly obtained from the State Port statistics and the annual reports of Port Authorities. We analyse a set of quantitative and qualitative variables through different multivariate analysis techniques. Principal Components Analysis allowed us to reduce the number of variables in four factors, and the classification of the ports has been carried out through Cluster Analysis. The main finding of this paper reveal the existence of clearly different three groups of the state ports depending on their level of specialization in port traffic port and infrastructures, and other ports group that stand out for their cruise passenger traffic.

Different studies into the notion of quality of employment have proposed several dimensions and various solutions for measuring it. One such measurement proposal is the European Index of Quality of Work. This index comprises information concerning the physical and social environment, the intensity and quality of work time, the different skills involved and how workers influence their jobs, their job prospects and the earnings they receive for their work.Based on the components included in this index provided by the European Working Conditions Survey, we propose estimating a synthetic indicator of quality of employment using the P2 distance methodology. The aim is to offer a robust estimate of the quality of employment, exploring which components carry greater weight when determining quality of employment, and also providing a spatial analysis of employment quality levels from a gender perspective.

Currently, the cultural heritage is conceived as an engine for the development and enrichment of the societies, acquiring more and more prominence in business activities. We see all this expressed in certain laws and actions of public administrations for its protection. Nevertheless, this protection implies restrictions that limit the profitability of investments for the enhancement and use of heritage assets, even though both are objectives to the laws of protection of the cultural heritage. Given this tension between objectives and limitations by the laws themselves set, we study the institutional barriers of the put in value of the Real de la almadraba de Nueva Umbría -Asset of Cultural Interest- with its incorporation to the market of goods and services.

Royal Decree 679/2006, on used industrial oils, established the extended producer responsibility (EPR) in the management of used oils. In 2015, the organization of the EPR is modified with the entry into force of Royal Decree 110/2015, on waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE). In this context, the results of the evaluation of the efficiency of EPR differ from those previously obtained, by which the EPR in the management of used oil constitutes a standard of recycled material (SRM) applied for the whole sector of lubricants. From the perspective of waste oil management, the competition between different integrated management systems for waste oil justifies that the result of the evaluation of the efficiency is indeterminate. If the lubricants market is considered it is shown that a demand for more differentiated lubricants, is incompatible with the SRM.

We analyze the relationship between business cycles and housing price cycles in Spain over the 1971-1Q/2016-1Q period. Specifically, the question that we want to address is: do the features of the Spanish business cycles and the housing price cycles confer a synchronized nature on them? The study follows three steps. First, we identify the turning points of both cycles. Second, we focus on synchronization and causality indicators. Finally, we document the economic facts that lie behind the relationship found. Overall, business cycles are longer than housing price cycles, although this is more evident in expansion than in contraction phases. Furthermore, housing price cycles seem to be more sensitive to shocks than business cycle.

The objective of this paper is to measure the impact of the investment and operating expenditure (OPEX) of the Callao port terminals in 2014. For this purpose, the input-output table of 14 economic sectors of Peru is used. The results show an impact of USD 598 million in value added, the generation of 66 thousand jobs, and that operating expenditure contribute more to added value and employment creation than investment. Furthermore, it highlights that the North Terminal had a greater total impact and the Mineral Concentrates Terminal had greater marginal impact.

Joint action in multi-stakeholder organizations is one of the ways to improve the competitive position of enterprises. A standard example of multi-entity organizations are group purchasing organizations (GPOs). In purchasing groups companies often order goods or materials with excessive stock which adversely affects the level of inventory and transport costs. However, cooperation between enterprises and mutual transactions provide opportunities for optimizing the level of supply and costs related to transport. In the article some possibilities of transport organization obtained by enterprises operating in purchasing groups were presented. The main goal of the article is to present the optimal model of transport organization in a commercial enterprise operating in the branch purchasing group.

We characterize regional business cycles for Spain using monthly Social Security affiliations. Based on a set of Markov-switching models, we find substantial synchronization of regional business cycles, which has increased since the Great Recession. We also find evidence of a regional leading and lagging performance that repeats itself across the different recessions. Typically, earlier signals of national recessions appear in the Islands and Valencia, and are propagated from the periphery to the center. Moreover, north-western regions tend to start the regional recoveries with a significant lag.
