The literature associated with the new urban geography and with the agglomeration economies theory attempts to explore and explain the relationship of the economic and urban development of cities with their inhabitants and with organizations as essential actors in this interaction. In this sense and as a result of the central objective, the findings of the updated bibliographic review on the problems that arise from the dynamics of interaction between the BRT transport systems, the territory and the decisions of geographical location of the companies are presented. In this way, a specific contribution and current reflection on the relationship between mass public transport, urban space and the role of the foundations of this theory is proposed. This review made it possible to analyze this relationship from its economic, spatial, social and urban dimensions, addressing the main theoretical and empirical proposals available in recent literature. In the second section of the article, a synthesis of the results of the updated and exhaustive review of the empirical bibliography is presented, which starts from the work of Lampón Caride (2011), to propose a framework for the analysis of determining factors on the relationship between location of companies, transport dynamics and urban development. In the final section, an analysis of the problem and interaction between BRT public transport, the territory and the urban economy is presented, analyzed from the perspective of transport oriented development (TOD), exemplified in the systems of Curitiba in Brazil, Bogotá in Colombia, Mexico City and Santiago in Chile. As a main contribution, the existence of a relationship between the territory and the location of the companies is proposed, which in turn is influenced by the dynamics of public transport, mobility, urban development and by the economic evolution of cities, detailing starting from its economic, spatial, social and urban dimensions.

This paper analyzes the emergence of solidarity networks and collective learning spaces as one of the consequences of urban socio-environmental conflicts. It works with the case of the General Assembly of Peoples, Neighborhoods, Communities and Pedregales of Coyoacán, an organization that emerges in a conflict over the environmental damage caused by a real estate project south of Mexico City. It is argued that solidarity networks and collective learning are part of a territorialization process with expectations of environmental justice mobilized in protest.

The reality of Mexican immigrants in the United States shows that, in recent years, there has been a notable prevalence of accidents and illnesses that are closely linked to their labor activity. Their immigration status, low human capital levels and poor knowledge of the English language, are some of the elements that lead workers to insert themselves into activities that put their health and physical integrity at risk. Using data from the Survey of Migration in the Northern Border of Mexico, a descriptive analysis is carried out and quantile regressions are estimated to analyze the relationship between the wages of Mexican immigrants in the United States and the accidents or illnesses that they incur as a result of their job. It is observed that Mexicans employed in the United States legally receive higher wages and suffer less work-related accidents relative to their undocumented counterparts. Moreover, the results suggest that among undocumented workers there is a wage premium associated with working in dangerous occupations, particularly in the upperpart of the wage distribution.

The article describes the relationships among the socio-physical environment characteristics of the neighborhood and personal abilities in late-life. The challenges that older adults face in the fulfillment of goals and desires in daily activities are identified, and so the opportunities to improve the ability to live in the neighborhood independently. Seen from a geography of aging perspective, our findings are related to environmental gerontology and include recommendations for urban inclusive design. In accordance with the notion of successful aging the article describes situations and characteristics of the city that enhance physical, mental, and social capacities and the promotion of healthy lifestyles. In sum, this research offers an inclusive and intergenerational vision to build neighborhoods for a variety of people in real situations. It emphasizes the importance of taking advantage of family characteristics within the community to promote quality and wellbeing in late life.

The main objective of this research is to evaluate the variations in the transition to adulthood patterns in Mexico, according to the socio-economic condition and the geographic context of young adults. Using the entropy index and data from the 2015 Intercensal Survey, we measure the heterogeneity of the transition to adulthood, considering the school, labor, and family domains combined. The results show that socio-economic and geographic conditions structure the life of young women and men, showing important differences in the timing of the status change in the above-mentioned domains.

This study explores the evolution of Guadalajara Metropolitan Area (GMA) urban structure between 1999 and 2019. By conducting an analysis of density and total employment at the census tract level, the study identifies nine subcenters of employment in 1999 and 14 in 2019, and their size, spatial structure, and economic specialization is analyzed. A primacy index shows that the GMA is transitioning towards a monocentric urban form. Although the GMA is achieving to create new employment subcenters, these clusters in urban space to form what can be called “the great central agglomeration of the GMA”. Finally, the paper discusses the implications of the study for employment accessibility in GMA.

Habitat types are urban environments resulting from the settlement process of the city and the forms of production of the living space. The article aims to investigate the way in which habitat types are linked to the demographic profile, the characteristics of the housing stock and the metropolitan location market in Buenos Aires, based on recent census data. As a result, the housing conditions are described in the light of the genetic variants of the settlement process, and the contrasts, similarities, hierarchies and distances among urban environments are highlighted.

In the Mexican metropolis, as elsewhere, intra-urban residential mobility is an important driver of the reconfiguration of the socio-spatial divide. In the popular neighborhoods, poverty is predominant; however, this characteristic is insufficient to explain these spaces. The objective is to understand the mechanisms of residential anchoring, as well as the socio-spatial recompositions that these imply. Through the analysis of census data and exploratory surveys, emphasis is placed on the articulation of places and the variety of experiences of the inhabitants, rendering obsolete the unique approaches in terms of systematic relegation-consolidation, or fragmentation.

In this article, we analyze the book La urbanización capitalista, by Christian Topalov available in Spanish. We use the historicist method that the author developed in later works to study his text and its reception in Latin America. This approach helps us evaluate the trajectory of a theoretical perspective developed in Europe on the eve of the neoliberal transformation of capitalism; spread with the Hispanic American exiles, and whose update for the 21st century offers new perspectives on issues currently thematized.

Temporary life expectancies are estimated around the male mortality hump for the Mexican case at the state level, for 2000, 2005, 2010 and 2015. Controlled smoothing by segments is used to guarantee comparability and mitigate the outlier effect, depending on expected underlying mortality. The results indicate that the life expectancies are unequal and, in some cases, even worse to that of year 2000. In addition, the present proposal achieves a better fit as compared to several mortality parametric models, such as the Heligman and Pollard model.
