In this paper we estimated the degree of exchange rate pass-through (ERPT) into aggregate import prices in Serbia. ERPT was determined by application of single equation, cointegration approach (ARDL model), error correction term (ECM) and VAR Granger Causality tests. We based our research on data from 2008Q1 to 2014Q4. The results of our research show partial pass-through in the short run; in the long run pass-through was not observed. In addition to that, we found that appreciation of the nominal effective exchange rate (NEER) led to significant pass-through asymmetry in the short run.

Beyond the country-level impact, this study evaluates public expenditure in Nigeria in the last decade based on composition and distributional impacts on human development at the state-level considering education, health, agriculture and rural development water resources energy, housing and environmental protection. Using data generated from 20 states from 2007-2017, the empirical analysis indicates that the efficacy of education, health, agriculture and rural development and water resources in improving human development is greater than that of energy, housing and environmental protection expenditure. More interestingly, the positive effect of capital expenditure is mitigated by increased recurrent expenditure. The combination of these factors strongly reduces the capability of public expenditure to foster human development. Based on the distributional impact assessment model, education, health, agriculture and rural development and water resources has positive marginal impact while energy, housing and environmental protection has negative marginal impact. Together, these results further advance the case for improving expenditure on the components and sectors that enhances human development. In other words, the public policy plays a great role in human development expenditure in Nigeria.

Efficient use of public resources is clearly a relevant issue to be studied from several points of view. Among others, it accounts for a significant share of the total economy activity and it deals with non-market oriented activities. In Spain, the regional level is particularly relevant due to the progressive decentralization of key public policies constituting the welfare state (as education, health, etc.) and their increasing financing needs, at the same time with important differences in fiscal capacity between them. Moreover, they mostly share (15 of 17) a common financing system in which an efficient use of resources is assumed but not evaluated. Our results show that normally a few of the regions tend to be the top performers, but there no regions performing poorly in every aspect. It is also worth noting that no dramatic changes can be seen in terms both of expenditure and performance during the recent Great Recession.

In this paper, we employ data from 46 African countries over the period 1980–2014 to examine financial sector development convergence, using bank- and market-based measures of financial development. Within the framework of the generalized method of moments (GMM), we present evidence that both the bank– and market–based financial sector development in Africa diverge over time. However, we find strong evidence of financial development divergence when using bank-based financial sector development indicators whereas this evidence is weaker for market-based indicators. Given the divergence in the level of finance, the gap between countries with underdeveloped and well–developed financial markets will continue to widen as financially less developed countries do not appear to catch-up with the financially more developed economies.  Keywords: Financial development; divergence, convergence, AfricaJEL Classification: F15, F36, G01, O55

This study attempts to develop an ordered logit/probit regression model to identify the determinants of the geographical distribution of business incubators (BIs) in Portuguese regions. The results show that Portuguese BIs are more likely to be geographically concentrated in regions where the number of patent applications is higher, usually in the larger regions (particularly in metropolitan areas), and mostly in regions with a university. The study clearly demonstrates the importance of Portuguese universities to the location of BIs.
