Resumen
This article examined convergence of inflation and exchange rates in six (6) West African countries that make up the West African Monetary Zone (WAMZ). A non-parametric rank and score test was employed in the analysis. The results show that inflation and nominal exchange rates of Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone are converging. The findings have practical implications.

Resumen
This Letter draws on series of very large national samples to show that cross-sectional distributions of realized returns on capital (RoC) are persistently well described by the same functional form: double stretched-exponentials. The Letter shows how the tails of these distributions can be understood as entropy maxima, suggesting complex patterns of competitive interactions across decentralized, market economies sustain formally persistent statistical equilibria in markets for capital. Such equilibria and their characteristics set the explanatory burden for successful economic accounts of the competitive regulation of profitability. They also point toward interesting new lines of inquiry on the systemic consequences of market competition in those economies and on the price structures it conditions.

Resumen
The efficiency of tax systems is an important topic for policy makers and academics. We focus on the efficiency of applying VAT to traditional banking services, a significant issue where a consensus has yet to be reached since the first debates more than two decades ago. This paper discusses one of the most relevant models of tax efficiency on banking services under VAT, the model developed by Jack (2000). This author shows that explicit fees and commissions should be taxable under VAT, while implicit fees covered by banking spreads should be zero-rated. An alternative theoretical approach is developed in this paper, proposing the taxation of both explicit and implicit fees of financial services under VAT at the same tax rate, which should also be the same rate applied to all other goods and services.

Resumen
There is a renewed interest in the quality of public finances (QPF). This is a multidimensional concept that can be approached from different angles. In practice, the QPF implies a budget composition that should promote long-term output growth and, at least, not raise inequality. This paper revisits the framework of QPF and provides some data on the changing trends in the composition of public finance in the post-crisis period in a sample of advanced countries.

Resumen
The euro area has shown lower capacity to resist shocks than other monetary unions, such as the US. One possible determinant is the lack of risk-sharing mechanisms. In this article, we estimate the risk-sharing capacity of the Euro Area according to the Asdrubali et al. (1996) methodology. The results show that the degree of risk-sharing is low in the euro area, in particular, due to underdeveloped capital markets and the lack of a central fiscal capacity. We suggest venues of reform to increase the economic resilience of the common currency area.

Resumen
We assess how “big” government should reasonably be in a number of advanced countries. First, we will link the recent findings of Data Envelope Analysis on efficient public expenditure with the question of the size of the government. Second, we report descriptive analysis of various government performance indicators in relation to public expenditure to provide indications of overall “optimal” spending across spending categories. In principle, the highest savings potential is in the biggest expenditure categories, public consumption and social expenditure.

Resumen
This research analyses de affective and motivational aspects of students in sixth grade of secondary in mathematics. The research is made from the results of the international evaluation of PISA, Serce, and Terce in which Dominican Republic occupied the last place.
Since the results of these evaluations are low, there is a need to make a psychological analysis of this situation see the internal factors and affective that condition Dominican students in the mathematical performance.
This is a qualitative research that describes and analyses the psychological situation that influences the mathematical education in high school students or sixth grade of secondary. The research was made in two Schools, one private and one public with interviews and focus groups with teachers and students.

Resumen
This study analyzes the implicit theories of intelligence and resilience in a sample of 34 high school students from two public schools in the Distrito Nacional. Two instruments “The Implicit Self-Theory Scale” and the “Cuestionario de resiliencia para niños y adolescentes” were used, as well as sociodemographic variables. No correlation was found between the implicit theories of intelligence and resilience. However, students presented a high level of resilience and a relatively high level of the incremental implicit theory, suggesting that a relationship between constructs cannot be ruled out. A correlation was found between the theory of entity and the most disadvantaged school, which suggests that external factors may influence the implicit theory of intelligence that students possess.

Resumen
The main objective of this research is to explore the relation between the perception of being Dominican
and the cultural consumptions of the second cycle high school students of a school of Santo Domingo.
A qualitative field work with an exploratory and descriptive scope was conducted through semi-structured interviews and a product letter written by the students. The sample was composed by 11 students of 4th and 5th grade of the Second Cycle of High School. The results show similarities in the perception of being Dominican within the sample and some of the cultural consumptions of the participants were identified. The relation between both variables couldn't be stablished due to research limitations.
