This essay provides a reflection on the importance of complex thinking and transdisciplinarity in the educational context. For this, the contributions of Edgar Morin and Basarab Nicolescu are taken as references. In a first instance, relevant aspects of their proposals are presented such as the concepts of complexity, complex thinking, differences among the concepts of transdisciplinarity, interdisciplinarity and pluridisciplinarity, the levels of reality, and the logic of the included middle, exemplified by non-Euclidean geometries. In a second instance, the interrelation between the concepts of complexity and transdisciplinarity is shown, taking the work of Morin and Nicolescu as a base. In addition, the implications of transdisciplinary approaches and complex thinking in teaching-learning processes are explored in the educational context. Finally, we reflect on the need to move from simple to complex thinking and how transdisciplinarity can help to improve educational processes.

The main objective of this essay is to share reflections on the importance of the development of a rebellious pedagogy. This proposal is based on five aspects: a) epistemology, b) ontology, c) axiology, d) teleology and e) methodology. It should be mentioned that this pedagogy arises from the perspective where education is conceived as a sociocultural product, and in turn, as an alternative to visualize and deconstruct the power relations that arise in society. Finally, it is expected that the contributions provided can have a positive impact on educational relations in order to convert education into a means to achieve social transformation.

In this paper we discuss Prinz’s Kantian arguments in “Is Empathy Necessary for Morality?” (2011). They purport to show that empathy is not necessary for morality because it is not part of the capacities required for moral competence and it can bias moral judgment. First, we show that even conceding Prinz his notions of empathy and moral competence, empathy still plays a role in moral competence. Second, we argue that moral competence is not limited to moral judgment. Third, we reject Prinz’s notion of empathy because it is too restrictive, in requiring emotional matching. We conclude that once morality and empathy are properly understood, empathy’s role in morality is vindicated. Morality is not reduced to a form of rational judgment, but it necessarily presupposes pro-social preferences and motivation and sensitivity to inter-subjective demands.

One of the main arguments in favor of metalinguistic predicativism is the uniformity argument. The article discusses one of its premises, according to which the Being Called Condition gives the literal meaning of proper names. First, the uniformity argument is presented. Second, the article examines a challenge by Jeshion (2015a) and a recent response by Tayebi (2018). It is then argued that Tayebi’s response is unsound. Finally, two sets of facts are discussed, which provide independent evidence against the literal meaning thesis.

In this article, we propose that it is possible to analyze the reference to facts and events starting from a linguistic analysis. With this purpose, we provide, first, an ontological characterization of facts and events based on a Platonist ontology, which contains concrete and abstract entities and is hierarchized in levels, and, second, an analysis on the reference to facts and events that starts from a grammatical analysis of the definite descriptions that can be related to said entities. Finally, we determine whether it is possible to refer to facts and events or not.
