From an interdiscoursive and interdisciplinary perspective, this paper explores different representations with which the Mapuche People of the Gulumapu constructed their processes of cultural and territorial differentiation in tension with the Chilean Nation State. Through heterogeneous discourses -historical, literary, media, testimonial and of political organizations-, a process is expressed that moves from an ancestral unitary vision to strategically assumed modern conceptions, typical of new geopolitical and supranational scenarios, such as those of the State and/or nation. It is concluded that this process mainstream their discourses, which as a whole represent a shared collective imaginary that relates the ancestral notion -Wallmapu- with the modern vision -nation and/or Mapuche State.

The purpose of this article is to comprehensively approach the current state of research objects in the Argentinean academic literary journals. Our methodological proposal consists of the use of tools developed in the digital humanities field to carry out a distant reading that allows us to have a more encompassing and federal vision of the field according to its general guidelines and thematic recurrences. With this purpose, we take as a corpus a series of digital publications of 2014 and 2015, linked to literary studies in Argentine universities, to obtain a mapping of the dominant interests and approaches. In general terms, we seek to generate a first approximation and input that favors dialogue between investigations and objects in common.

the work of Juan José Saer highlights the mediated nature of language through the verification of the unavoidable presence of a gaze. However, the detailed description of the characters’ perception in his novels presents a problem that transcends that recognition. For in his narrations the gaze faces obstacles that hinder its projection, summoning a question. In this paper we study the dimensions of this caesura figure as a privileged space of inquiry about the subject of the gaze. Based on the follow-up of a series of textual operations included mainly in El limonero real (1974) and in Nadie nada nunca (1980), in which the reading process is subverted to its basic assumptions, we recognize the ambivalent “half-erased” status of meaning in the literary text between understanding attempts and their denial.

This paper is an assessment of the conclusion that negligent agents are not morally responsible for the damages they cause, reached by Matt King in “The Problem with Negligence” (2009). King’s argument involves two difficult issues that are often disregarded in discussions about moral responsibility. One is that it is not clear why we usually attribute responsibility in cases of negligence but not in cases of inadvertence even though both phenomena are characterized by the absence of conscious mental elements. The other is that any explanation of the responsibility attributed in cases of negligence and in paradigmatic cases should shed light on the features that both cases share. I will review these issues involved in King’s argument in order to avoid his conclusion and to clarify some important matters of our attribution of responsibility in cases of negligence and in cases of inadvertence.

In this article, I critically address David Papineau’s assertion that accumulated physiological evidence is sufficient to reasonably adopt the principle of the Causal Closure of the Physical and the via negativa, viz. to understand “physical” as “non-mental”, as a solution to Hempel’s dilemma. We will start lowering the strength of his view by reviewing the work of W. Penfield and J. Eccles, two important neurophysiologists and declared dualists. However, we will then focus on the work of B. Libet in which it is purportedly shown that voluntary movements are really determined by entirely (neuro)physiological causes, which would constitute a fundamental piece of evidence in favour of Papineau. Our analysis will reveal that such conclusions do not follow. This will have negative consequences for the Causal Closure Principle and to the Causal Argument for Physicalism of which the aforementioned principle is a key premise.

In the present paper I discuss some normative aspects of perceptual experience by considering Wittgenstein’s contributions to the topic in the Second Part of Philosophical Investigations (PI, II, xi). In these passages, Wittgenstein criticizes the physiological causalist explanations provided by Wolfgang Köhler as well as the representational empiricist view about sensory perception. These considerations allow him to show that interpretation plays a relevant role in certain cases of visual perception (preeminently in cases described as ‘seeing-as’). I propose, first, a way to extend this model to general cases of visual perception of objects generally stated by the expression ‘I see this’. Second, I examine some comparative advantages of this position with respect to its partial alternative, which consists in restricting Wittgenstein’s considerations just for the case of ‘I see it as’.

Although the study of emotion regulation constitutes a thriving research field, there is still an ongoing debate about the very notion of emotion regulation. According to a popular approach, regulation is a second-order process which is different from (and modifies) emotion. This view has been challenged by the fact that emotion regulates itself through different feedback loops. Emotional feedback suggests that regulation may be a form of control (as defined in control theory). In this paper, I argue that none of these characterizations captures all the intended applications of the notion and propose instead to identify regulation with modulation. In neuroscience, modulation is the process of changing the shape of an input-output relation. This is a notion that can be applied to the different regulatory strategies proposed in the literature and which is compatible both with second-order and feedback regulation.
