This article intends to place Hida Hilst’s plays in the panorama of Brazilian dramaturgy during the dictatorship period, evaluating thematic choices and dramaturgical procedures, with a strong focus on the importance of the grotesque. Also, this study analyses the originality of Hilst’s dramatic works, noting the cautious distance of her aesthetic philosophies and the fundamental elements of her literary universe — oppression, cruelty, alienation, obscenity— from any contemporary trends or labeling.

The food shortage suffered in Spain during the postwar period (1939-1951) left a deep mark in Spanish society permeating all spheres of life, including art. To give an account of this we propose to analyze a series of poems by Ángela Figuera that directly address the issue of hunger as a symptom of care and domesticity, an area that was relegated to women during the Franco regime. The ultimate purpose of this research is to show how a historical analysis can be undertaken through literature that allows us to understand our most recent past.

This article analyzes the meaning of friendship in the social network Facebook through the concept of myth proposed by Roland Barthes. We consider that the strategic use of the concept of friendship by Facebook has created a kind of “myth of friendship” in which friendship, a historically and culturally variable concept, is presented and “normalized” as something fundamentally positive and quantitative, based on the logic of adding new “friends” and sharing personal information with them. The article, as Barthes did in his famous Mythologies, tries to “decipher” and “dismantle” this myth in order to bring to the surface its hidden meaning.

The approximation to the agrarian documentary work of José Neches is decisive for the comprehension of the rural documentary in Spain, not only from a historical point of view but, also, from a visual perspective. The pedagogical character which defines his work uses some narrative tools that make possible the verisimilitude deal between the sender and the receiver which enlivens every documentary text. Therefore, this work aims to address the narratological lecture of the different narrative voices that burst into Neches’ filmography to shed light on the many functions this texts carry.

We offer a panorama of semiotic possibilities for the study and analysis of deception in the domain of conflict, example of the frailty and versatility of codes when cooperation disappears. In the semiosphere, non-cooperation can make any of the elements of comunication modify its functions or participate simultaneously in many, in a kind of systematic subversion. On the basis of the intense codification of violence and diplomacy, a biased subject can use disinformation to involve his enemy in a faked communicative model.

This article participates in the controversy about the notion of romantic comedy. After critically reviewing the most relevant contributions to these notions, it focuses on the play by Bretón de los Herreros’ Muérete… ¡y verás! —presented by several specialists as a perfect example of romantic comedy—. It also defends that it is, in fact, a curious mixture of parody and pastiche of romantic dramas.

In this article, we analyze the role of space as one the aspects on which the creation of fictional universes in Benito Pérez Galdós’s novels are built. To do so, we have used a corpus-stylistic approach. The analysis focuses on clusters retrieved with a software tool, which have revealed both formal and functional patterns that have traditionally gone unnoticed by literary critics. The study aims to shed some light on Galdós’s stylistic habits in his treatment of space, one of the aspects for which he is best known.

Our work is based on the seminar about the Hölderlin´s Germania that Heidegger taught on 1934. Following his structure, we will look for the limits of the poetical idea and his posible applications onto the audiovisual aesthetic. For that, we will bowdlerize those aspects of the text which offer the biggest interpretative issues (Heimat, Ursprache, Gemeinschaft…), and after that, we will analyze the strenghts and difficulties on the application of this concepts to the cinema. We will find our main problema in the original lenguaje issue and we will conclude offering a suggestion about the posible future of the heideggerean textual-audiovisual anaylisis.

The main goal of this research is to understand how the most read newspapers in Chile have established a social representation of the Mapuche culture. For this, the studied topic will be the cognitive aspect of the discursive dimension associated with the exercised control —by the press— over the structures of the news that strongly influences the formation of mental models in its readers about ethnic alterity. The methodology used will be the Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) and its link with the theory of journalistic discourse; the Visual Semiotics of Kress and Van Leeuwen (1996) and the Greimasian Semiotics.

In the middle seventies, the stage became a place of integration and dialogue of different scenic languages. The codes get their autonomy. The spectator and his ability to interpret take the centre as dynamic and active strength. The age of the author is followed by the age of the stage director, and this is ensued by the age of the spectator as element responsible of the unit of sense of the polyphony of signs that converge on the staging. The use of semiotics and semiology in the exam of the new performances reveals the prominence of the spectator in the articulation of the critical discourse on the stage.
