Resumen
Much has been said about the impact of tourism in Guanacaste; while some consider it the engine which has helped the province to grow, others claim that its benefits are not the result of the work of tourism operators. Economic impact studies of tourism have been previously carried out; however, up until now no study has been able to measure the perception people from Guanacaste has about it. This is the first quantitative approach study, with a representative sample of 640 people from all over the province, which answers the following question: what is the opinion of residents in Guanacaste about the impact of tourism on their communities? This paper also compares this opinion according to different sociodemographic variables, and presents the benefits and problems attributed to tourism.

Resumen
The main objective of this essay is to find empirical evidence that allows us to verify the relationship between the competitiveness of cities and urban areas, measured through the index prepared by the Center for Research and Economic Teaching; and the quality of life of people, using a set of indicators of well-being (poverty, human development, employment, education, health, income, among others). To fulfill this purpose, a correlational and comparative analysis is performed between competitiveness and some indicators, as well as between indicators of well-being in a large sample of tourist municipalities of Mexico in a first stage and between a restricted sample of 5 municipalities that offer services of beach tourism.

Resumen
This study addresses the issue of violence experienced by women in their dating relationships during late adolescence from the attachment theory perspective. Four participants were involved in the study with the purpose of analyzing the characteristics of the bonds throughout their stages of development. This way it was possible to characterize attachment styles of women who remained exposed to abusive situations.
To achieve this, it was necessary to work with three instruments. First of all, a life story interview was used, in order to identify personal characteristics that have an important influence on attachment styles. Second, it was used an attachment styles interview called Entrevista de Apego a los Pares (Campos, 2005), and the Attachment Styles Questionnaire (Bartholomew & Horowitz, 1991).
The results displayed insecure attachment styles; there were two fearful type cases and two anxious ones. This relates to the personal history of each participant, involving gender factors and the socio-cultural environment. By analyzing the dynamics of these elements, their influence on staying in abusive relationships can be understood; in that way, an integrated analysis of the issue can be achieved.

The process of transferring people to different territories in search of better conditions for material reasons or misadventures caused by natural phenomena has been a reason for conceptualizations aimed at explaining only the change from one territory to another of protagonists, leaving out events that surround them with holistic explanatory possibilities; in this case, the negative prejudices towards the arrival or transit of agents in mobility as well as solidarity positions. Resumen
Through in-depth interviews, this article explores the legacy of Antonio Maceo and the Cuban colony at Mansion de Nicoya, Guanacaste, through the perception of the reminiscences of the mid-twentieth century landscape in the memory of five interviewees. The article uses the concept of landscape as a way of seeing and perceiving the environment, as well as a social hieroglyph, through which it is possible to denote and analyze social and economic relations in a specific place. In the analysis of the interviews, three derivations are determined by means of the analysis of the idea of landscape in the interviewees. The first one is the presence of the legacy of the figure of Maceo and the Cuban colony as a source of communal identity, the second one deals with Mansion as one of the hubs in Guanacaste in the mid-twentieth century, and finally, Mansion as a center of rich agricultural production for the local and national markets.

Resumen
This article explores the effect of constant group work in a reading strategies course at the University of Costa Rica. The target group is heterogeneous as it is composed by thirty students who belong to different majors at UCR. To assess the effect of constant group work throughout the course to foster students’ motivation, the writer analyzed the data collected with three instruments during the semester. Finally, the writer explores the notion of group work and lists some recommendations to implement it in such a course. To illustrate the implementation of group work and reading comprehension, the writer includes a sample non-evaluated WebQuest carried out at the computer lab in groups of four students.
