This document analyzes how the changes in the labor market conditions in the US and the ongoing crisis in Mexico interact to create conditions under which it becomes increasingly more difficult for Mexican immigrants and their children to advance economically in the US. Even for second and third generation of Latinists from Mexico the educational levels, and hence wage and salary levels, are extremely low. Given the transformation that currently characaterize the US labor market —the growth of the service sector employment and a decline in the number of manufacturing jobs, the increased participation of women and Latinists in the labor force, and the rising number of contingent workers— the future perspectives for Latinists from Mexico, and even Latinists in general, do not look good.

This paper presents a critical reflection about the incorporation of gender in the mexican demography taking as a point of reference some of the most relevant events in this regard at the international level. Likewise, it presents a proposal that intents to provide some elements against the use of gender in substitution or as a synonymous of the variable of sex in the discipline of demography due to its technical and analytical specificity. Finally, it leads toward the analytical advantages of including gender in the study of the demographic dynamics of our every day more complex societies.

This article analyzes the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the Register and the Nominal List of Electors in Mexico, through the observation of the levels of coverage and updating of each of these registries. The increase in the number of deaths caused the National Electoral Institute to implement a special strategy to promptly remove these deaths from the electoral register. Given that the way to face the pandemic consisted of a non-pharmacological response that forced the confinement of people, the reduction of mobility and the closure of various non-essential activities, the INE had to develop actions to significantly reduce the effect of the pandemic on the coverage and updating of records, through the extension of the validity of the voter card to guarantee the right to vote, and by implementing health security measures in the Citizen Attention Modules so that citizens Do not be inhibited when registering or updating your data. The information analyzed also makes evident the interest of citizens, especially young people, to register for the first time or update their data, which contributed to maintaining coverage and updating of electoral registers with very similar levels to those previously achieved.
