A descriptive exploratory study was conducted on macroalgae species associated to roots of R. mangle in Playa Estrella, Colón Island, Bocas del Toro, Panama, in August 2012. The main objective of the study was to collect and describe algae species and know the vertical distribution formed in the roots. In order to know the algae vertical distribution, three zones were established in each root: the low zone going from the base of the root to 0.50 m in height, the average zone going from 0.50 m to 1.10 m, and the high zone from 1.10 to 1.30 m., based on Peña-Salamanca (2008). Eleven species of phylum Rhodophyta were identified, of which B. montagnei, B. moritziana, B. tenella, P. howei, P. scopulorum, A. spicifera, and C. caespitosa were the most outstanding. In addition, three species of phylum Chlorophyta were collected and identified: C. linum, B. verticillata, and Chlorodesmis sp. Regarding the vertical distribution of algae in the roots, most of the species were in the lower and middle areas of the root, while only B. montagnei was in the upper part. The study is expected to contribute to the phycoflora knowledge of Panama’s Caribbean mangroves.

This paper aims to show, through the analysis of two texts by two Dutch mystics of the thirteenth century, Beatrijs van Nazareth and Hadewijch, the beguine from Ambers, the new paths undertaken by thirteenth-century female mysticism. These paths lead to the fusion of the stairway of virtues, the itineraries of perfection, and the ways of amorous encounter with the divinity. Confronting a fundamentally ascensional topography that goes through a certain number of levels, which is typical of the traditional imagery of the stairway, this paper turns to the image of the kaleidoscope to understand the circular character of these new approaches and the need to understand the itineraries of perfection in concordance with the new spiritual practices of amorous mysticism.

This article presents the relationship between the images that emerge from the visionary experience and the art of the time. The aim is to verify how visionary images fit in many cases the expressive forms coined by the iconographic tradition, which derives in part from the function of images in meditative and devotional practices. The visions of the recluse Julian of Norwich (c. 1342-43-1416), conform to the Gothic style, both by theme (the Passion of Christ) and by the mode of treatment, designed to provoke in the viewer / reader emotions and an intense compassionate feeling. Furthermore, this study will try to show how in the visionary experience new and unusual images can emerge that will only come to build a style or an artistic tendency centuries later.

Osvaldo Lamborghini’s poetry has been scarcely visited by the critics who have focused mainly on his work in “prose”. The aim of this work is to make a brief tour of some of his poems, published and unpublished, since there, through writing, a particular subject is configured: one that defines family and poetic lineages, carries out deletions in the rewriting of his own work and finally becomes the transgender voice of a transvestite. On the other hand, in these poems, we find some novel statements that allow us to problematize certain ideas subtending Lamborguinian works in relation to (trans) sexuality, desire and the body, and their dominant and dissident forms. Finally, if the critics have emphasized the Lacanian imprint in Lamborghini’s writing, we propose to review the discursive horizon that made possible the emergence of this fluctuating lyrical ego, and divert attention to the figure of Julia Kristeva who develops in her thesis on poetic language, the theory of the subject in process.

Saint Joseph was extremely popular in New Spain but he hadn’t always been such a well defined and revered character. During premodernity his already imperceptible character in the canonical Scriptures was altered and certain apocryphal and legendary sources were exploited to create a negative version of the Patriarch. For this reason, when Sor Juana composed her set of villancicos to celebrate the Saint, she had many themes that she could take advantage of: the premodern legendary ones and those related to his reinvented figure. By means of an analysis of the carols to celebrate the Saint in 1690, the fusions of these two traditions are identified to underline the liberties that the Tenth Muse took when she composed this set of carols.

This article is a result of the research project Crónica latinoamericana actual: lo maravilloso real. Análisis del periodismo narrativo de Alberto Salcedo Ramos presented by the author for the degree of Doctor in Lenguajes y Manifestaciones Artísticas y Literarias at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and tries to show the role played by magazines in the vitality of the current Latin American chronicle. The fact that this has been developed by magazines links it to New Journalism in the United States, and such publications have allowed a boom in narrative journalism in Latin America.

In dictatorship, the transvestite must survive as a sexually different subject and as a subject thrown into a cruel historical moment. For this reason, Tengo miedo torero is the narrative space where the author can build a battlefield that alienates the Loca del Frente of its context. This is done through the hyped dramatization of spaces and characters, and through the travesty of violent actions presented. Thus, both routes of escape build a re-fictionalization of the story told.
