After the linear model of science policy had been in force, a model centered on the economics of innovation and competitiveness began to take shape in the 1960s and, by the 1980s, it had materialized in scripts that were rapidly disseminated and appropriated in many countries of the Western world. Its conceptual sources are to be found in the ideas of economists of the stature of Schumpeter, Smith and Ricardo, but once reworked in the management literature, they were socialized in the spheres of decision-making on the generation of scientific knowledge. This model, centered on economic innovation, privileges applied research over basic research, to the detriment of other forms of innovation such as social, artistic and environmental. Its rapid assimilation into the scientific policy guidelines of Latin American countries reveals a phenomenon of diffusion by imitation rather than by reflection on the true capabilities of the countries, and this has given rise to a mimetic isomorphism of institutions, systems and research practices, far removed from the issues of relevant research needs. Thus, after the 2020 pandemic, the precariousness of the research that this model has led to in the Latin American context has become evident.

Are lynchings of criminals effective in reducing crime? This research evaluates the impact of mob justice on the frequency of crime reporting in 2017 at the district level in Peru. Difference-in-difference (DiD) and regression discontinuity (RD) models were estimated for count data in a longitudinal database. Evidence indicates that at the district level there is no impact of mob justice on the occurrence of crime reports in the range of 3, 7, 14, 14, 30 and 60 days before and after the lynching.

The article analyzes the migratory transits that transvestites/trans Peruvians carry out after leaving their contexts of origin. Experiencing different discriminations, vulnerabilities and violence in Peru, they decide to move to live in better conditions. For this reason, they migrate to AMBA, Argentina and after a while they move to Europe, where they go through experiences of a diverse nature. The migration of transvestites/trans Peruvians is unstable as a consequence of the hostilities they experience in receiving destinations. Consequently, they must go in search of less hostile settings, which is why mobility represents one of the main characteristics of their biographical trajectories. A qualitative methodology is used that uses the in-depth interview and, in a complementary way, the participant observation. A theoretical sample was made and the ATLAS.ti software was used to process and analyze the information through the constant comparison method. It was found that for some interviewees, migrating to the AMBA represents a springboard to Europe, since it allows them to improve their position in the social space by accessing capital. However, it was discovered that other transvestites/trans had negative experiences. In conclusion, Europe represents a chiaroscuro that articulates experiences of a different nature, linking desires, opportunities and disappointments.

In this article we analyze the semantics of the "regional society", which has been established as a widely spread assumption to the conceptualization of the social specificity of Latin America. This semantics considers that geographical and spatial limits are significant for the delimitation of social realities. In this way, it allows us to distinguish between internal and external realities, recognizing their simultaneous value for understanding the social dynamics that unfold in the region. Indeed, it is possible to reconstruct the diversity of theorizations about Latin America as alternative ways in which the links between the internal and the external have been conceived. The paper seeks to develop these hypotheses, while advancing in the evaluation of the theoretical and empirical limits of the semantics. We conclude about the need to move towards a non-regionalist concept of society to approach Latin America.

Background: The identification of land-uses (e.g., crop types) that generate the loss of different vegetation types, degradation trends, and biodiversity loss has been poorly explored in most studies on land-use dynamics in agricultural landscapes. Questions: What areas are occupied by the different land-use types and vegetation? What are the permanence, rate of change, and loss rate of the different land-use types and vegetation? What kind of land-uses and vegetation is driving the observed changes? Study area and dates: The Soconusco region of Chiapas, Mexico. Analysis period, 2000-2017. Methods: Land-use cover maps were created using Google Earth images and employing the image interpretation method and field verification. Matrixes of permanence and transition were created, and relative change rates and loss area were calculated for the different land-uses types and vegetation.  Results: Agricultural activity and natural vegetation were the categories with the largest surface and permanence. The agricultural activity showed the highest annual rates of gain, and it was promoted by the expansion of economically important crops, mainly mango and the African oil palm. Natural vegetation had the highest annual loss rate, mainly for tular and secondary vegetation that changed to agricultural areas. Conclusions: Considering the limited secondary forest formation and the high permanence and increment of agricultural areas, it is important to consider actions that diversify these agricultural landscapes.

Background: The malpaís of San Andrés Corú, within the Transversal Neovolcanic Axis, has been explored botanically; however, to date it lacks a floristic inventory. Questions: What species are present in the Malpaís of San Andrés Corú? How is the vegetation? What is the endemism and conservation status of its flora? How much floristic affinity does the study area have with other areas of malpais? Studied species: Vascular plants. Study site and dates: Malpais of San Andres Coru, Ziracuaretiro, Michoacan, Mexico; March 2012 to April 2014. Methods: Botanical specimens were collected in the field. The taxonomic identification was carried out using specialized bibliography. The vegetation was defined from the physiognomy and dominant species. The results are compared with the flora of four áreas of malpais. Results: The flora is made up of 104 families, 334 genera, 544 species and 13 infraspecific taxa. The most diverse families are Asteraceae, Fabaceae, Orchidaceae, and Poaceae. The genera with the most species are Desmodium and Tillandsia. Four types of vegetation are distinguished: coniferous forest, Quercus forest, tropical deciduous forest and mountain cloud forest. The flora includes 157 endemic species. Nine species are listed in the NOM-059-SEMARNAT-2010 and six in the IUCN Red List. The area has a greater floristic affinity with the malpais of Arocutin. Conclusions: The study area has a diverse flora that complements that of other malpaises in the region. Currently anthropogenic activities threaten its conservation, so the results of this study will serve as the basis for recovery or restoration actions.

This research focuses on films whose plot is marked by a videogame and what this implies regarding the conception of characters, structure and story. Twenty-nine film productions were observed. A thematic-discursive film analysis was carried out for the purpose of deepening into the uses and conceptualizations derived from this synergy. The results show heterogeneity in the use of digital games as contributions for the narratives. We reflect on their various implications, in particular the relationship between reality and fiction, the use of avatars, structure and rules, concept of time, the figure of demiurges, the struggle against tyranny, and also the audiences. It is concluded that this type of films may represent a subgenre of its own and a very promising one in the sphere of science fiction and fantasy.
