The outcrops of sedimentary rocks of La Presa, Soyatlán de Adentro, Agua Zarca and El Conejo, in the northwest of Tamazula, State of Jalisco, are rich in fauna of rudists, nerineid and cassiopid gastropods which are indicative of Early Cretaceous age (late Aptian-early Albian) and are characteristic of shallow waters of the tropical regions… in order to continue, download the full paper in PDF.

The mapped area is 130 km north of the city of San Luis Potosí, and provides an important window to look at the most ancient rocks of the region corresponding to the Triassic Zacatecas and Nazas formations. These strata are unconformably overlain by Jurassic rocks, beginning with the La Joya, Zuloaga and La Caja Formations, and passing transitionally upward to Cretaceous rocks of the Taraises Formation (Berriasian-Valanginian). In Aptian time, the Cupido and La Peña Formations accumulated... In order to continue, download full text in PDF.

The new taxa of caprinid rudists Pantojaloria shaerica and Caprina massei are described. They are derived from a thick sequence of carbonate sediments recurrently interlayered with volcanic rocks,… in order to continue, download the full paper in PDF.

Caprinid facies occur in the upper Cenomanian of Algeria as rich and diverse caprinid associations at the East (Constantinois and Hodna p.p.), already described by Douvillé (1910)… in order to continue, download the full paper in PDF.

The early Pliocene Las Américas Formation consists of four ignimbrite units, which show different degrees of welding and are separated by short periods of erosion. Rocks from the first flow unit are dacitic in composition, while the second unit is rhyodacitic to dacitic. The third unit plots in the dacite and the fourth in the quartz-latite field. Two types of pumice do occur. White pumice is generally rhyolitic to rhyodacitic while the dark pumice is dacitic in composition. In addition, among several types of lithic clasts, small fragments of gneiss occur, suggesting that the basement in the central part of the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt is crystalline in nature... In order to continue, download full text in PDF.

Nearshore, oolitically-coated carbonate grains indicative of high energy characterize the marine strait between Isla Mujeres and Puerto Juárez, State of Quintana Roo, Mexico. Low-energy, high Mg-calcite-rich mud is forming to the south in Nichupte lagoon. Six ostracode species, two of which are new, are present in five widely spaced quantitative (total= live + dead) samples collected from each of these two discrete lithotopes. Ternary plots ofthe three most common species in marine strait grainstones reveal: (1) Paranesidea gigacantha dominates, (2) second-order dominants are almost equally divided between P. gigacantha and Paranesidea cancunensis n. sp., (3) third order dominants consist of P. cancunensis n. sp. and Neonesidea longisetosa... In order to continue, download full text in PDF.

In the Peninsular Ranges of southern California, U.S.A., and Baja California, Mexico, the Cretaceous granitic rocks to the southwest, nearly all of which contain magnetite, adjoin Cretaceous granitic rocks to the northeast, nearly all of which are magnetite-free, along a narrow northwest-trending zone called the "magnetite boundary" A few granitic plutons that straddle this boundary grade from magnetite-bearing (early) to magnetite-free (late). To investigate the factors that cause variations in magnetite content traverses across representative plutons were examined for variation in whole-rock and mineral chemistry, iron-oxidation state, ammonium in biotite, and non-carbonate carbon in the rock... In order to continue, download full text in PDF.

In the Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas area, the core of the Huizachal-Peregrina Anticlinorium is formed by gneiss, quartzite, schist and serpentinite, which are followed by some 1,500 m Middle Silurian-Permian non-metamorphosed fossiliferous marine sedimentary rocks. Two unconformities within the Paleozoic sedimentary sequence indicate deformation during Late Mississippian and Late Pennsylvanian times. The accumulation of redbeds (2,000 m) during the Late Triassic-Early Jurassic (?) has taken place under taphrogenic conditions, which were followed by slight uparching and erosion. The Upper Jurassic-Upper Cretaceous sedimentary sequence, which is some 2,400 m thick and consists mainly of carbonate and flysch deposits, underwent principal defonnation during early Eocene time, which produced the anticlinorium...
