This article seeks to grasp the juridical dimension of indulgences. Its analysis begins with the origin and historical configuration of the remission of temporal punishment, in order to delineate the genesis, structure and positioning of their current provision in the Latin Code. It is notable how the use of indulgences eludes the intersubjective and obligatory logic that is typical of law (in that it regards the moral and spiritual sphere). The juridicity of indulgences, however, is derived not only from the configuration and ecclesial regulation of their concession, but also from the institutionality of the Church and from their community implication, in support of the good. Beyond possible reconsiderations de iure condendo of the content and positioning of the figure, there is the suggestion of a substantial increase in the praxis regarding indulgences in order to underline, above all, the promotion of sacramental forgiveness and the maturation of the necessary dispositions, evading every sort of legalistic or formalistic interpretation of their legislation.

Resumen
Francesco Ruffini, founder of Italian ecclesiastical law with Francesco Scaduto, defends the centrality of religious freedom of citizens as an object of state laws in ecclesiastical matters. His proposal is a benchmark in the dogmatic construction of this freedom in the European law. By studying the main theses of his teaching, we can found coincident aspects about religious freedom that the Conciliar Declaration Dignitatis humanae will teach a few years later.

Resumen
Pedro Lombardía was probably the most influential canon lawyer in the last two centuries. In addition to his significant contributions to the reform of the Code of Canon Law and to the constitutional law of the Catholic Church, he had a decisive impact on the methodological renewal of the study of canon law in Spanish universities; in conjunction with a number of colleagues, he set up an international, pluralist scholarly network of canon lawyers and fostered the studies of law and religion in Spain. The purpose of this paper is to explain how Lombardía’s Christian faith is indispensable to an understanding of his work as a canonist.
