The Xinjiang region is strategic for the imple- mentation of the Belt and Road Initiative due to the natural  resources it has and the geographic, political and economic nexus with the countries of Central Asia. This article argues that the policies of the Chinese Government to trigger economic development in the region have brought in parallel, greater repression  and exclusion of the Uyghur community in a government attempt to accelerate the cultural, political and economic assimilation of ethnic minorities with the Han culture. There is currently a human  rights crisis in the region, which is characterized by a marked deterioration of civil and religious liberties, extreme vigilance, arbitrary detentions, multiplication of reeducation camps, restrictions on freedom of expression and association, etc.

Rising China has become an important promoter of changes for Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) since the late of 1990s, and it continues on doing so particularly after the global recession in 2008. From the Chinese perspective the world is in an irreversible transition towards ‘multipolarity’, and LAC is not an exception. In this regard, this article makes a comprehensive analysis of the recent China’s engagement with LAC and examination of China’s diplomacy in LAC, studies the case of China’s relationship with Venezuela, and claims that besides the opportunities, complexities and challenges existing in China’s multipolar diplomacy towards LAC in general. The expected result is to have a representative picture of these interactions of the countries involved, and grasp how to develop better relationship between LAC and China based on the multipolar diplomacy.

This article aims to analyze the Foreign Policy of China in the Korean War based on a constructivist theoretical approach. So, I analyze the relationship between China’s identities and interests and its impact on the Chinese political elite to decide their participation in the Korean War. I employ documentary research to examine the relationship between China’s identities and interests and its impact on the Chinese political elite. As a result of the research, I conclude how the reformulation of identities reflects the mutually constitutive relationship between material and non-material structures. In this way, this article provides some elements to understand how in the decision-making of Foreign Policy the identity also influences the decisions and actions of the leaders.

This paper seeks to analyze the key teachings to be learn from the Special Economic Zones (SEZ) in China and its success factors useful for other developing countries, particularly, the implications for the SEZ Project in South-Southeast Mexico. This research first conceptualizes the SEZ and presents their history. Next, it summarizes the experiences of development and lessons from the SEZ in China. Then, it characterizes the Mexican SEZ Project. The analysis section identifies the lessons that planners can learn from the Chinese SEZ. Although it may seem that economic policies, through enabling legislation to facilitate the foreign direct investment (FDI), will result in an improvement in the quality of life and in a reduction of poverty. Such a phenomenon does not work automatically and its impacts are not always clear and evident. The main challenges of the SEZ include a weak regulatory and institutional framework, the lack of effective strategic planning, weak governance and poor implementation capacity and inadequate infrastructure.

The objective of this article is to explain how the United States took advantage of the Sino-Soviet divergences to approach Beijing not only within order to contain Moscow in Central Asia, but also to incorporate China into an international norm to open it to free trade and democratize it in an order that favored it. However, although in the international normativity that the United States guided, it was successful in the Soviet containment and the Chinese opening to trade, it failed to democratize in Beijing. Also, while the current US international order has benefited China in the economic field, now Washington faces the risk that the magnitude of Beijing’s interests will be aimed to promote a new international norm. The analysis is carried out based on the Constructivism of International Relations, focused on the norms and identities that emphasize the values of the dominant countries.

It is common knowledge that Chinese cuisine is among the best known of the world, and the simple fact of eating is an inseparable part of daily life. That is why Chinese food attracts tourists from different continents, who are interested in the millenary culture of China. However, due to the variety of ingredients and ways of cooking, as well as cultural and linguistic disparities, losses would inevitably arise during the process of translating the names of Chinese dishes. In order to keep the essence of Chinese dishes as real as possible, the translation of these deserves profound studies. This is a subject that we try to analyze translation from the Chinese-Spanish angle. This paper is divided into three parts. Firstly, some general theories of losses and translation compensations would be presented. The name of the Chinese dishes and the possible factors that cause translation losses would be addressed in the second part. The third part is developed around the compensations that could be applied in this process, illustrated with several examples.

This article examines the important Japanese mo-netary reform of the year 1871, for which Japan was endowed with a currency according to Western models. This reform, based on the gold standard, could not be alien to the current trade flows in Asia and the Pacific area, based on the silver coin and especially in the Mexican peso, so it retained the emissions of yen milled in silver for the commerce with the foreign powers. This study incorporates a document preserved in the Archivo Histórico Nacional of Madrid, which shows the importance that in the trade had the Mexican currency of silver.
