Autor/s Monika WoźniakUniversidad San Jorge, Spain   ABSTRACT This paper documents collaborative work between content and language lecturers for CLIL at a Spanish university. It focuses on the perspectives and concerns of ten Pharmacy lecturers who integrate credits in English within their content subjects, as reflected during a group discussion and in individual questionnaires. The study reveals that the lecturers are motivated and have positive opinions about both the project and the collaboration. In spite of some years of CLIL experience, they still need support and their main difficulties are related to the linguistic side of CLIL and its assessment. Given the differences in objectives in each subject, further collaboration with the language lecturer should focus on addressing the specific needs and concerns of particular lecturers. More collaboration between content lecturers is also needed to define the aims and outcomes of particular activities and to sequence them properly so as to offer a well-balanced CLIL degree programme.

Autor/s Joseba M. González ArdeoUniversidad del País Vasco / Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea, Spain   ABSTRACT This paper deals with the current coexistence of ESP (English for Specific Purposes) and CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) courses in tertiary educational settings in the Basque Country. The University of the Basque Country (UBC) is immersed in an ongoing process of internationalization and, consequently, its language teachers are witnessing an unstoppable process of Anglicization. At present, and presumably in the medium and long term, institutional decisions will continue to support CLIL in preference to ESP. In order to analyse this process within the UBC, quantitative data about these two linguistic approaches are gathered and compared with data from 2005. A questionnaire aimed at gathering the opinions of engineering students who currently take both types of courses is also used as a source of qualitative data. The main conclusion of this exploratory study is that both types of courses seem to be compatible. However, language teachers, English-medium content teachers and students are facing a tough challenge, since neither of the two types of course is a panacea.

INTRODUCTION Over the past 30 years, translators have been continuously incorporating the new advances in technology into their daily work. Nowadays, it is inconceivable that a professional does not use a computer with at least a word processor and some tool allowing terminology to be managed and looked up, be it some application on the Internet or a simple spreadsheet.

Nile tilapia Oreochromis niloticus is one of the most economically important freshwater fish cultivated worldwide. Despite its importance and being one of the cichlid fish most studied from a parasitological point of view in Mexico, there are few studies about the ectoparasite protozoa that infect them. In this study, a total of 240 juvenile individuals of O. niloticus from an experimental culture (in Tabasco, Mexico) were examined to detect the presence of trichodinid parasites. Trichodinid parasites were impregnated with silver nitrate and stained with Harris´ hematoxylin solution for taxonomic evaluation. A disc-shaped trichodinid with a body diameter of 38 ± 3.3 μm adhesive disc diameter of 34 ± 3.3 μm and a denticulate ring diameter of 19 ± 2.1 μm was found. Trichodina centrostrigeata has been previously reported having specificity for cypriniform species, but in the present study, the Nile tilapia was reported as a new fish host and southeastern Mexico as a new geographical distribution for this parasite.

Fish mariculture from the genus Seriola spp. can present high mortalities due to parasites. In Mexico, the mortality yellowtail Seriola dorsalis caused by parasites is low, and there are no reports of massive mortality events. However, as the aquaculture activity of yellowtail intensifies, parasites will be increasingly conspicuous. Therefore, the present study is an aim to know S. dorsalis’s susceptibility to a monogenean infection mixed under RAS experimental conditions and their intensity and spatial distribution on the skin and gills. In this study, a parasitic mix induction was performed using two monogenean species such as Zeuxapta seriolae and Benedenia seriolae besides the Amyloodinium ocellatum, a dinoflagellate that was naturally presented. At the end of the experiment after 45 days, B. seriolae prevalence was 100% with a mean intensity of 122 parasites and showed a preference for the head and body of the fish. Zeuxapta seriolae prevalence was 100% with a mean intensity of 40 parasites preferentially found in the second branchial arch. In the case of A. ocellatum prevalence was of 100% with a mean intensity greater than 200 trophozoites per fish. The fish mortality reached 90% at the end of the experiment. During the infection, the fish weight decreased a 14% at the end of the experiment. Therefore, it will be necessary to carry out prophylactic and control strategies, to reduce the impact of these parasites under culture conditions.

Rocky shores are ecosystems susceptible to anthropic impact, and the absence of information in Brazil about their biota hampers characterization and conservation measures. Thus, this study analyzed the abundance, richness, diversity and dominance of anomuran and brachyuran communities in sheltered and exposed rocky shores in Anchieta and Guarapari on the coast of Espírito Santo State. It was also studied the community variation concerning the types of rocky shores during the rainy and dry seasons. The organisms were collected manually in the mediolittoral zone of the rocky shores from October 2014 to September 2015. Additionally, temperature and salinity of the water were measured and the rainfall recorded from a meteorological station. In this study, 3,156 individuals were collected, comprising 14 species. The hermit crabs Clibanarius antillensis and Calcinus tibicen were the most abundant species. The three-way ANOVA analysis revealed that there was no interaction between ecological indices and the study locations, rocky shores and seasons. The abundance of the decapod community was statistically different between locations. The richness and diversity indices were higher on the sheltered rocky shore because of the presence of rock fragments and heterogeneous sediments, they are providing higher availability of microhabitats in these areas. There was no relationship between the decapod community and environmental factors, possibly because of a small variation of these factors registered between rainy and dry seasons. It is concluded that the anomuran and brachyuran communities are probably more influenced by biological interactions and physiographic features of rocky shores than by environmental factors.

This study evaluated the effect of short-term starvation on biological condition indices, hematological parameters and blood biochemical composition of reared spotted rose snapper Lutjanus guttatus. Triplicate groups of juvenile fish were subjected to different feeding treatments: fed for 14 days (Group A or control); fed for seven days followed by seven days of starvation (Group B) and starved for 14 days (Group C). At the end of the experiment, body, liver, and viscera were randomly sampled for proximate composition, and biological condition indices were assessed. Blood was also collected and analyzed by standard clinical methods. Body composition, liver lipid content, hepatosomatic index, condition factor, and relative intestine length were significantly (P < 0.05) reduced in starved compared to fed fish. A statistically significant (P < 0.05) reduction in hematocrit (12%), haemoglobin (33%), glucose (18%) and calcium (9%) levels were assessed in the blood of starved fish for 14 days, while triacylglyceride levels decreased (36%) in fish starved for 7 days, subsequently returning to values similar to control by the end of the trial. No statistically significant differences were observed in total protein, inorganic phosphorus and magnesium levels in starved fish. These hematological blood and biometric parameters seem to have potential as a predictive tool for establishing the nutritional status or physiological condition during short-term starvation of L. guttatus, which may be useful to manage and monitor feeding practices during culture of this species.
