Far from conceiving that security and human rights, on one hand, and restriction and protection, on the other, are two exclusionary perspectives in international migration management, this article argues that both articulate and feed one another. Drawing on research on governmentality, we explore this articulation, while analysing anti-trafficking and anti-smuggling policies, core elements within regional and international migration agendas. We focus on Ecuador’s “Citizens Revolution” government. Based upon an ethnographic study, we reveal the role migrants smuggling and human trafficking have strategically played in the production of “risky migration” and “migrant irregularity”, and in justifying exceptional measures during particular conjunctures defined as “humanitarian crises”. We conclude that migration policies formulated during the Ecuadorean “post neoliberal” period are not wholly autonomous nor dissident, but functional to the global and hegemonic neoliberal migration control regime.

The paper analyzes the dynamics that are established between feeling rules corresponding to two different romantic imaginaries, the romantic and the post-romantic, that guide romantic and sexual relationships among young people in the city of Guadalajara, Mexico. Their intimate experiences occur in a context of accelerated social change where new values and meanings define new rules that coexist with previous ones based on different principles. This produces conflicts between their discourses and their practices, both within themselves and among young people and their loving partners. The analysis is organized around two areas: love relationships and sexuality, in which current romantic feeling rules and post-romantic rules are negotiated and even have some contradictions, which are still incipient but whose presence is undeniable in this particular age group.

The departing point of this article is the hypothesis that the problem of the State was displaced in social sciences to give place to topics related to the democratic transition processes (Lechner, 1995). Our aim is to qualify this statement by showing that the State is part of the discussion about democracy in at least two ways: 1) as part of current debates about the political situation, in the form of a critic from socialism to populism; 2) through an exercise of conceptual review in which socialism starts to think about the State as a privileged place for the exercise of democratic politics. We analyze the State as problem, as obstacle and as battlefield for democracy in the heat of debates among left wing intellectuals (both Socialists and Peronists). In order to do that, we focus on a specific corpus that encompasses the articles published in the journals Controversias para el examen de la realidad argentina (Mexico, 1979-1981) y La ciudad futura (Argentina, 1986-1998).

The call for open access to scientific literature is now generalized. From councils for science and technology to universities and inter-government organizations, the main actors in global knowledge production seem to agree that the future of knowledge circulation and use depends on open access to it. In this article, I explore first the context in which we should frame this call: knowledge asymmetries. Then, I analyze the consequences of open access for knowledge, data, and information production and consumption. As an answer to those consequences, new epistemic practices are described: softwarization of data processing and strategic reading.

Este artículo esboza un modelo analítico para estudiar los regímenes de ciudadanía en general y las disputas por los derechos sexuales en particular, desde una perspectiva comparada y procesual. Como nota de investigación, muestra los ajustes teóricos que ha tenido un programa de investigación sobre identidades, colectivos y derechos LGBT. Tales ajustes pasan por revisar el carácter estático de las categorías de movimiento social y ciudadanía y por identificar potencialidades y límites de un marco analítico que gira en torno a los procesos de politización. El objetivo del artículo es abrir camino a un enfoque sobre los regímenes de ciudadanía que pueda explicar a) el momento político y contencioso de la disputa por los derechos, b) los modos de regulación estatal, jurídica e institucional, y c) la experiencia y el ejercicio de los derechos en la vida cotidiana.

El objetivo de este artículo es mostrar los alcances que tiene la sociología simmeliana para pensar las diferencias genéricas en la experiencia urbana. Mostraré cómo su sociología posibilita un análisis relacional del cuerpo, que considere no sólo las relaciones sociales que lo constituyen, sino los espacios que habita y su sentir, así como la durabilidad de las relaciones que se inscriben en los cuerpos y su sensorialidad, así como la materialidad que los rodea. La categoría analítica que pongo en juego es la de proximidad sensible (Sinnlich Nähe), en el marco de una investigación exploratoria sobre significados, valoraciones y situaciones asociadas al placer y desagrado en mujeres y hombres jóvenes universitarios urbanos a partir de una encuesta aplicada en 2017 así como algunos de los principales hallazgos. Me concentraré en las diferencias genéricas en experiencias de desagrado en la proximidad sensible anónima, específicamente en la calle y el transporte público para el caso de las mujeres. Igualmente, mostraré cómo tanto las discusiones recientes como los propios hallazgos, permiten pensar en una ‘sociología de los sentidos’ que resuelva algunos puntos ciegos del legado simmeliano. Principalmente, que considera el carácter ‘multisensorial’ del ‘intercambio de efectos’ en la proximidad sensible y las diferencias y asimetrías entre los géneros.   Palabras clave:Simmel, sensorial, cuerpo, género, ciudad 

This article provides a critique of the common representation of lynchings as a spasmodic and mechanical vision of the actions of popular sectors in the face of insecurity. Not only does this representation establish analytical and explanatory limits for understanding, but, in addition, it reproduces colonial representations of popular subjects and is sustained by making invisible alternative forms of popular responses (violent and non-violent). Recent studies in Latin America have criticized and dismantled various elements of this mechanical representation of lynchings, thereby allowing a more complex understanding of. Nevertheless, it is still possible to identify a common weakness in these analyses: the lack of concern for the specificity of different logics of violence grouped under the term lynching. With this in mind, this paper considers the analytical applicability of the concept of the moral economy of violence in exploring problem.

El artículo presenta los resultados sobre cuidado y maternidad de una investigación que tiene como objetivo explicar los procesos de reconstrucción del sentido en familias con un hijo con una enfermedad degenerativa. La investigación se realiza a través de un proceso cualitativo con enfoque constructivista social. La recolección de datos es a través de método metafórico, entrevista enfocada y observación participante; el análisis se realiza por método metafórico y análisis cualitativo. Se encuentra que el sentido se reconstruye en los diversos discursos socioculturales, puede relacionarse con las creencias religiosas; maternidad y cuidado son procesos corporizados en la mujer.
