Resumen
The current work studies the discourse that the press built about the poverty and social exclusion which were caused by the financial collapse that Spain faced between 2009 and 2011. In particular, it tries to determine the weight of the agenda setting in the development of the news contents, as well as its influence on the selection of the information sources and main characters. This aim was addressed through the analysis of 417 informative pieces, published in that period by the newspapers with greatest media coverage in a Spanish city (Vigo). The results and conclusions of this research illustrate the general pattern followed in the journalists’ discourse, when informing their readers about the repercussions of the crisis in an area of strategic importance for the surrounding economy.

This paper aims at investigating and comparing the construction of Chinese president’s State visit to Spain in November 2018 in the press of the each country taking as corpuses the journalistic discourses concerning the visit published by the Chinese newspaper People´s Daily and the Spanish dairy El País. We try to reveal the application of the square ideological in the discourses, as well as to conclude the different hidden ideologies by means of Teun van Dijk´s proposal of ideological analysis. As a result, we find that People´s Daily is characterized by highlighting the great potential of bilateral relations and the contribution that China has made to promote them; while El País, besides showing its confidence about the future relations between China and Spain, questions the political intentions with which China carries out international cooperation.

Current journalism revolves around two axes: social and technological. As well as the two faces of Janus, the god of Roman mythology, the two lines are complementary and represent the beginning and end of a process that cannot be understood without relating both dimensions. The digital scene, although it has turned the old profile of the journalist’s romantic professional into a memory, has not buried its social dimension but has enhanced it. Commitments with public service and truthful information now coexist with the computerization and programming that feed the network society. This article analyses, from several studies and work on the state of the art, the threats and challenges of a social communication technique in transformation along with digital modernisation.

Social networks have become in recent years a growing vehicle of communication, which has caused the media and journalism have assumed as a channel. In this work we have analyzed the repercussion of the environmental catastrophe that occurred in 1998 on the Guadiamar River (Andalusia), which went through well-identified phases that included the possibility of the reopening of the mine, using a comparison between the news of press and the content of Twiter. The objective was to analyze if it was a spontaneous controversy of public debate or induced and encouraged by certain protagonists. The methodology included the use of specific software for the analysis of tweets. The results show an evolution of the information from the journalistic scope to the tweets carried out preferably by the political parties.

Within the religious journalism, the coverage of acts related to the Holy Week occupies a special, important place in the media of some Spanish regions, specially in the South of the country. But until now, it’s a field barely studied by the scholar research. This work aims to know the treatment that this celebration and its main actors, the Brotherhoods, have in the media, taking the local press of the city of Malaga as our study object. So, we analyze 390 texts related to the Holy Week published during 2017 in the newspapers Sur, La Opinión de Málaga and Málaga Hoy. The results confirm the relevance of this phenomenon in the local media, and how its treatment is characterized by the use of a high number of specialized terms, the group of contents and the use of informative, interpretative and argumentative genres. All these conclusions bolster the autonomous status of this reporting field.

In spite of its value as barometer of cultural change, obituaries have scarcely been explored by Spanish scholars. This study of the obituaries published by the newspapers El País, ABC and La Vanguardia aims to partially fill that gap. The analysis has revealed that theirs authors are mainly recruited from the newspapers’ staff; the rest are members of the local elites chosen through affinity or friendship with the deceased. The people’s lives and deaths portrayed in their texts suggest a hierarchy dominated by personalities from the worlds of politics, sport, culture, arts and media, born in Spain or in affluent Western countries, and overwhelming male. It can be concluded that this “paper pantheon” provides a sound basis for invsetigating the dominant values in the Spanish society and the press role in the collective remembering and social consecration processes.

This article analyzes the news making strategy developed by a mexican gender news agency, CIMAC. The main aim is to study the sources selection process based on the gender of the source. To get that, have been analyzed all the news published by the news agency CIMAC in its website between 1999 and 2015 about the femicide of Ciudad Juárez, using a cuantitative method of content analysis. Thus, have been studied using a content analysis sheet 2712 sources used in 1284 news, having into account its official level and gender. The results shows that the less official level of the source, the more pressence of women. The gender has become a key factor in the source selection.

Even though Spain did not enter Second World War, it’s official politic changed from neutrality to non-belligerant, favouring the Axis, and once more to neutrality, when Germany began to lose the war and it was convenient to take distances. This manifested in the coverage that media, and especially Radio Nacional de España -which was the only radio allowed to give news- of the war and of the most politically commited initiative of the Regime: sending the Blue Division. War coverage -and of the Blue Division- of RNE evolved, from the glorification of the divisionaries to the silencing.

Resumen
The aim of this article is to analyze Mitologias section from Página/12 newspaper. Specifically, we want to analyze and interpret how the Ideological Criticism perspective of Roland Barthes is used in this section. This perspective was very important in the communication and cultural field in the late 1960/70s. A part of the journalist field use this perspective during 2008, in a context of a hard confrontation between the Argentine Goverment and the main mass media.
