The political discourse of the media reached its clearest expression in the treatment of the different themes of the political life of any country, and particularly in moments in which are held elections to its main bodies of Government. Ecuador 2017 campaign was the chosen stage to carry out a study of the behaviour of media, as part of a research project carried out by the Faculty of communication of the University of Guayaquil, during which different discursive strategies of news framing became apparent. The results show one example of how the press has become a political actor in the struggle for hegemony over the popular consciousness.

Feminisim has gained an unusual strength in the last years and so has the women collective, which has accomplished some evident achievements. The Queen Letizia, has certainly not been oblivious to this fact, always refering to the struggle for equality in her public appereances, as well as sexual harassment and domestic violence. This fact turns out to be relevant as it is not usual for a Queen to take part in such speeches and specially with that level of succintness and commitment. This work is about the contents of Queen Letizia’s public speeches and their broadcasting itself. We also study the degree of involvement t hat she acquires with her words, with a special focus on women rights related issues.

The proliferation of hospitals in the city of Seville throughout the Modern Age improved the existing health care network. The newly created establishments, be it by private initiative or by public institutions, specialized in the care of specific social groups and in different diseases. They stipulated diverse admission procedures and patient care that were captured in the statutes and constitutions, marking the guidelines of the sanitary circuit within the establishment. Diagnosis and prescription marked the two milestones of the health activity that materialized through the admission and the medical visit. As a result, hospitals created documentary and librarian instruments in order to control and manage the mourners during the Modern Age.Through the analysis of documentary and bibliographic sources, this article attempts to identify the different admission processes, as well as the characteristics of the medical visit and the participation of different actors in the care of the patients in Modern Age Seville, pointing out the defining elements of the books and documents that officials, priests, doctors or apothecaries created to exercise an effective control over patients.

The Iberian nations held control of the seas from the late 15th century up to the second half of the 17th century through a clear leadership in nautical architectural innovations. The main target of this article is to approach the issue of the Spanish maritime technological development in the 16th and 17th centuries. To do so, the information is divided into three parts, starting with a brief introduction to navigation at the beginning of Modern Age together with the human, scientific and technical elements that made it possible. After this prelude, the bulk of the article examines different aspects of the Hispanic Navy, offering an overall view through the contributions of the numerous authors mentioned. Finally, an analysis of its application to naval warfare is presented from a tactical and technological perspective, since its development supposed the genesis of modern naval war and defined the geopolitical balance of the subsequent centuries.

The Museo Nacional de Escultura de Valladolid preserves a painting dated on 1573 that represents a particular vision of the Calvary of Christ by its author, Anthonis Mor, who is mostly known by his portraits. The canvas contains many enigmas, from its location to its iconography, making this representation very unusual. One example is the first line of its titulus, written in Syriac instead of Hebrew, as was more common at the time. This essay attempts to solve some of these issues and to offer a revaluation of a painting banished from the Art-History studies.

The Portuguese figure of the Fernão de Magalhães/Fernando de Magallanes marked an important turn in the Iberian history, since he carried out the first circumnavigation of the Earth, until he diedin Mactan. However, its historical figure has been altered with the passing of the centuries and the incidence of political or cultural contexts. Therefore, this paper offers an extensive historiographic study that highlights the relevance of the character in the construction of the Modern Age to the present, as well as an interpretation of the character and his own journey.

This article discusses the sustainable treatment of sewage for small communities in Costa Rica. Although recent efforts show a political interest in improving the country's historical lag in sanitation infrastructure, there are few references that guide the selection process of the most appropriate technology and scale for the systems to be installed. This work provides an analysis of three technologies for wastewater treatment plants (WWTP) of feasible application in the country. For this, the area demand (AD), the building cost (BC) and the operation and maintenance cost (O&MC) of STPs at different scales were estimated. It was shown that systems with constructed wetland have the highest AD and the lowest BC and O&MC. The systems with upflow anaerobic sludge blanket reactor followed by trickling filter (UASB + TF) had a larger AD than those of activated sludge with extended aeration (ASE), with BC smaller for the first technology and CO&M 50 to 100% higher for ASE. The study found that the current practice of extended use of small-scale ASE systems is not the most sustainable option. Thus, it is advised that future WWTP consider larger scales and alternative technologies, emulating some recent successful experiences in countries with similar conditions.
