Water supply, like other utilitarian services in cities, is a fundamental part of their development and growth. Therefore, knowing and assessing the origin of these infrastructures allows us to discover certain inherited dynamics of the contemporary city. The cities of Seville and Malaga are two clear –though different– examples of the arrangement of the Andalusian conventual city. Thus, the parallel analysis of their evolution, throughout the 18th and 19th Centuries, lets us understand how their supply networks circulate in parallel with the power structure of the city. These structures reveal keys on the reasons and patterns that determined growth in both cities. The perspective of the historical city viewed from its networks and infrastructural nodes, gives value to spaces that had great significance, with useful, symbolic and social importance during the past, but are anonymous at present time.

This article will study the research work done on the rural architecture by Erwin Heilbronner during his stay in Ibiza. After his contact with the Central European circles of art and architecture, the German architect and painter found in Ibiza something more than a refuge. Once arrived and installed, Heilbronner started to visit the rural areas of the Balearic Island, always carrying his camera and notebook, making an exhaustive analysis of the peasant houses scattered throughout the territory. His graphic, photographic (partly unpublished) and written discourse about the island’s rural architecture, can be considered as one of the first typological studies on this particular Mediterranean architecture in modern terms. Based on the reference to some of the theories on typology written during the 19th, 20th and 21st Century by Quincy, Argan, Rossi, Moneo, Forty, … this article seeks to assess the value of Heilbronner’s contribution between 1935 and 1936.

The territory of the Bay of Cádiz has been the scene of historical ups and downs throughout its history, witnessing the defense constructions that have settled on the coast of Cádiz. Most of these, precisely because of their tectonic forcefulness, still remain standing; however the same does not happen with those located in the heart of this territory. And in the Bay, the complicated miscegenation of water, muck and mud that makes up its section prevents any imposition. The inconsistency of their lands determines the form and materials of construction; so that those defensive structures, in an attempt to take advantage of the peculiarities of the interior territory of the Bay, as they entered it, could not but be forced to dilute themselves and obey the codes directed by the territory, passing then to be witnesses of the most invisible particularities of the place.

Between 1976 and 1982, Spain lived an intense political and media context in the process of transition to democracy. During this period, video-politics broke out and it influenced the way politics were conducted and the leadership of politicians. Throughout those years, two presidents led the process of change: Adolfo Suárez and Leopoldo Calvo-Sotelo. Two different leaders: in their way of “doing politics” and in the way in which they used television to connect with society. This paper offers an analysis of, firstly, how both politicians understood their relationship with public television (TVE) and, secondly, what formats they used and the discourse of the television broadcasts that they starred in. To answer these questions, we conducted a thorough review of the existing literature on the topic, the published testimonies of protagonists, the Calvo-Sotelo archive, a content analysis of Televisión Española’s archives and the press published during Transition. The findings of this study clearly indicate that TVE marked the evolution of both presidents who, from the beginning, put in place different strategies to match their work from the Executive using public television. On the other hand, the shadow of Suarez and the way in which he had used television during the Transition, did not abandon Calvo-Sotelo whose decisions of media leadership were always aimed at countering the weight of the Suárez’s legacy.

In the absence of a state film education plan in Spain, there are numerous initiatives operating in the field of both formal and non-formal education, the aim of which is pedagogy through cinema and about cinema. The European Commission has established the identification of a pantheon of authors of which knowledge is compulsory (canonical competence) as one of the four necessary competencies of this film literacy. This article aims to identify this canon promoted by the entities operating outside the formal curriculum and within the different contexts of non-formal education with early, primary and secondary education students in Spain. For this purpose, 65 entities (N=65) –educational centers, regional programs, museums, film libraries, film clubs, festivals, associations and foundations– have been catalogued and consulted for the first time in the different provinces of Spain. Among the results, 194 film titles and 142 names of directors used by those entities involved in image pedagogy in Spain have been collected. From a multicultural point of view, the analysis of the results points to the promotion of a biological approach to the history of universal cinema, in which national cinematography does not find a place. The primacy of North American and French productions is observed, as well as the absence of images with which to work on historical memory in Spain.

The use of mobile phones by the so-called millennials (population under the age of 34) has resulted in behavioural changes, while also affecting how they approach their university experience. Despite the advantages of the invasion of ICTs in educational centres, many studies have examined the relationship between mobile phone use in classrooms and its effects on the student’s academic performance. A quantitative study based on a questionnaire was conducted in person, using a sample of 580 students from public and private universities and in various degree courses, permitting the determination of a student typology based on how they perceive mobile phone use during learning periods and any possible repercussions on their academic performance. The results suggested the existence of two university student groups having distinct profiles, according to field of study (social science or experimental science), the university in which they were enrolled (public or private) and the degree of self-control and responsibility expressed by each student with regard to mobile phone use during learning periods (students who are more permissive with their use of ICT in the classroom and who do not believe that this use negatively affects their studies and, students who demonstrate a more conscious and responsible behaviour and claim to introduce more self-control mechanisms to limit mobile phone use while in the classroom and when studying).

Drawing from 93 semi-structured, in-person interviews with journalists from 23 states, this article analyzes the relation between trust and risk perception in Mexican journalism. It focuses on how Mexican journalists perceive and experience public trust placed in them as social actors, and how it influences their willingness or reluctance to assume the risks associated with reporting on corruption and drug-trafficking in a country marked by anti-press violence. The findings challenge previous studies as they show that journalists from all regions of the country –even in the so-called safe states– are fearful, even when they have not been victims of threats, beatings or kidnappings. Also, it explains that the connection between institutions and journalism makes news workers feel unprotected and unaccompanied. As a result, they accept self-censorship and even express a willingness to resign. Thus, this article surpasses the social, spatial and temporal delimitations of risk, by arguing that distrust in journalists increases the dangers they face.

This paper studies the language of political actors on social networks from the concept of digital language with a communicative perspective. Attention is paid to tweets by political parties, public administrations and civil society related to Catalan politics over the last eight months. The main trends of digital language are confirmed for political language on Twitter, but are relativized by the majority use of a more formal register. In addition, the political language appears as hybrid, heterogeneous, multimodal, a continuation of the offline arena and with little narrative innovation. Within these general characteristics, the activation of innovative linguistic orthographic, lexical, syntactic or coherence elements draws specific strategies for each actor, without common features for the sectors but shows that they do converge at specific moments forming sociolects that seek to promote belonging to a community and protest against specific facts or the status quo.

This article studies the communicative structures of the main companies in Spain. Based on the fact that these organisations have significant economic and human resources, the structure of their communication areas is analysed, as well as the specific training of their top managers. In addition, the article will outline the main concerns that these organisational structures have with regard to the day-to-day management of business communication (transparency, reputation, identity, etc.). To do this, the object of the study is made up of the main companies in the Spanish continuous market, some of them included in the Ibex 35 in 2018. This population has been selected because it has the greatest impact on the national economy and is susceptible to greater information transparency.

Fact-checking has become one of the most relevant activities of recent years, as a result of the increase in the flow of fake news and of the ease to spread news through platforms such as social media. The goal of the research is to assess the task of fact-checking developed by initiatives that use Spanish as a vehicle for comparing inaccurate and false information. We carried out a case study of 19 international projects that use Spanish as the main language to materialise their fact-checking actions and the analysis of contents published aims at understanding where these companies develop their activities, how are them internally organized and which methods they use to translate the data obtained to the audience. Results show that most of fact-checking projects in Spanish –launched most of them in the period 2014-2016– remain active. In South America, these organizations have more weight. Most of them have a journalistic nature, although there is a large number of civic and independent projects. Among strategies for verification, text is the preferred formula, although some innovative methods to present the degree of accuracy of assessed contents have been found.
