The process of globalization requires that local and regional actors must be incorporated into global economic networks and flows to achieve competitiveness and economic development. This implies changes that modify the impacts and scope of transport infrastructures. In the case of freight distribution, air transport is still a little part of international cargo volume, where only a few airports centralize most of this volume. In Spain, only four airports are relevant in the management of air cargo, especially for the international freight management. This research characterizes the main patterns of air cargo in Spanish airports. To achieve this goal, they are analyzed the recent evolution and patterns of air cargo transport around different variables, finding some notable changes that are modifying the air hierarchy.

The arid regions in Mexico are excluded from the benefits of the Payment for Environmental Services (PES) scheme of the National Forestry Commission, due to the low forest cover they have. The objective of the work is to carry out an identification at the regional level of those potential payment zones for environmental services in the Mezquital Valley, Hidalgo State. The limitation of the arid zone is the main justification for generating proposals as alternatives to try to include these regions in the PSA. The identification of eligible or priority areas for the PSA was based on the methodologies of the Physiographic Survey, to delimit the environmental areas or units and, for the analysis of decision-making, the Multicriteria. Priority areas for payment for environmental services equivalent to 911 ha were identified, with high and very high risk characteristics of losing the ecosystem services provided by the conservation of biodiversity.

The objective of this work has been to determine that human settlements in the Jumilla-Yecla Altiplano region of the Murcia Region can be classified as rural population groups. This question is of interest within the scope of the Territorial Ordinance Guidelines of the region. To do this, flow diagrams were devised, with conditions such as: being a population nucleus and being located in rural areas, which had to comply with the human settlements studied –exception of the archaeological sites–. Only nine elements were qualified as villages, among the forty-nine cases studied. This work has allowed a first approximation to the definition-determination of rural population in the study area.

The Andalusian regional government approved on May 16th 2017 the "Strategy to Promote the ICT sector Andalucía 2020”. Linked to the objectives of the TIC2020 strategy, 15 indicators have been defined, which should serve as a basis for evaluating the impact of the Strategy.  Among the defined indicators, the so-called "Synthetic Indicator of Conditions of Context of Development of the ICT Sector" is aimed at measuring the contribution of the Strategy to improving the conditions of the business environment for the Andalusian ICT sector. However, the TIC2020 Strategy does not include the method to be followed to obtain this Indicator. Thus, the objective of our research has been to define and apply a methodology for calculating the indicator. For this, a synthetic index based on simple aggregation with equal weights has been defined, for which a methodology based on the Japanese TANKAN index has been designed. As a result of all this, the Synthetic Index has been obtained for the year 2017, with a value of 9.81, as well as a work method that should serve as the basis for obtaining the index during the Strategy period.

Over the last decade, the Spanish regions have undergone deep economic transformations that have gone hand in hand with changes in the production model. After the bursting of the housing bubble, growth has resumed through a recovery of the international competitiveness and a reorientation towards the foreign market. This new model has a clear territorial dimension visible in terms of unequal regional growth showing specific patterns and driving to a new territorial configuration. In order to define this nee configuration, we shall apply a spatial shift-share analysis to the Spanish regions for the periods 2008-13 (recession) and 2013-17 (recovery) aiming to split growth into its composing effects derived from neighborhood, sectorial specialization or the presence of economies of agglomeration. Thus, once the recession is over, the regions of the Mediterranean corridor along with the main metropolitan agglomerations (Madrid, Basque Country) are leading Spanish regional growth as a consequence of superior territorial competitiveness, showing that the divergent economic trajectories of regions can only be explained from the territory attending to concepts such as agglomeration and neighborhood.

The high-speed railway stations are the only access point to enjoy this rail service. Thus, its location and spatial distribution, and the roads to access them, acquires great importance. For this reason, taking into account the population of the Spanish peninsular municipalities, the degree of coverage offered by the 36 existing operating stations is determined. A methodology based on the method of determining floating catchment areas in three steps, is developed using territorial accessibility measures which were obtained through the network analysis tool offered by a Geographical Information System. The results represented by thematic cartography allow identifying the municipalities with the highest high-speed rail coverage. The municipalities with less coverage are also identified, where the road access of the residents in these municipalities to high-speed rail stations should be improved.

Since the mid-20th century, mobility in urban settings has featured the mass usage of private vehicles and rising numbers of trips made, as well as an increase in the distances travelled, rendering non-motorised transport methods less and less effective over time. Medium-sized cities have seen the strongest changes in their mobility habits in recent decades, given that they represented 54% of the increase in the Spanish population between 2001 and 2011. This significant demographic growth was, in most cases, accompanied by a considerable increase in the urban area. The main purpose of this paper is to develop a methodology for characterising mobility on a university campus so that, by defining the mobility purposes and patterns, measures can be applied to rationalise the urban transport system. The Caceres University Campus has been used as a reference since it is a clear example of segregated suburban space, located 4.5 kilometres from the city centre, with connections to the city being strongly affected by the abrupt terrain.

Air transportation and tourism are undoubtedly two of the main vectors on globalization processes with a deep interrelation between them. The research deeps on these relationships at measuring the changes on the top 100 touristic city ranking (2006- 2016). The air transportation indicators, such as the total number of flights, facilitates to interpret the results. In the end, the analysis shows the way and the scope of the irruption of touristic nuclei in the world urban system and what is their international meaning. Some of these cities are global ones, with a huge range of activities and functions but the emergence of another type of touristic cities is due to their specific functional roles. The result depicted the rise of very important nuclei, mainly in the Asia-Pacific region and at the same time, the rearrangement of functional weights and meanings of the great world tourist regions.
