Currently, educators face the challenge of making students consider useful what they teach in class. According to the expectation- value of motivation theory, the perceived usefulness is considered flexible in the face of external interventions. Even though a recent growing body of research has assessed the effectiveness of such interventions, there are no known publications that have reviewed the quantity, characteristics, concepts, correlates, and functioning of the examined interventions. To this end, the intention of this study was to describe the interventions that promote the usefulness perceived by the students. A non-systematic bibliographical review was carried out, producing ad hoc analysis criteria. Twelve interventions were identified, all based on the theoretical expectation-value model. The type, quantity and duration of the activities are diverse, consisting of asking students to make connections between the topics learned in class and their daily lives. Furthermore, the frequency of those connections is the mechanism through which interventions have an effect on learning. This review provides a variety of resources to the practice and research on education in order to produce changes in the perceived usefulness and improve the student’s focus and performance.

The training of professionals to obtain a Bachelor´s Degree in Food Science requires the development of biomedical science information management skills. This study proposes the curriculum design of an elective course and its integration with the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). This design was developed based on the professional model and includes the concept of curriculum integration of ICT expressed in a curriculum planning, so that its use responded to educational needs and demands. The programs Wordpress and eXeLearning were used for the preparation of the materials in Web format and the elaboration of Edublog. Conclusions: The designed and implemented resources form a system of integrated means and are comprised of chapters in electronic format, a web course, an Edublog and a monographic product on the impact of sugar consumption on health. Motivation, management and evaluation of scientific information were achieved.

The study describes the scientific production of psychology students in Peruvian Psychology Journals registered in the Latindex directory in 2017. A theoretical study that analyzed 220 articles from 12 journals of psychology was carried out. Any publication that did not have the IMRAD structure was excluded. There were 485 authors with national and international affiliation, of which 8.25% were psychology students and had participated in the publication of 29 articles (original research, reviews, and case studies). Of the 29 articles with student authorship, 64.5% were articles from the clinical area and 35.5% from the educational area. The most prevalent type of research was instrumental (54.8%). It is concluded that the scientific production of undergraduate psychology students in psychology journals is low. This makes it necessary to strengthen and encourage the generation and dissemination of psychology scientific studies by students in Peru.

This article presents a qualitative analysis regarding the possible implications of the development of the theoretical framework for university training on education. On the basis of the theoretical research, the need to recognize the context in which the students' research experience takes place is identified, apart from recognizing and differentiating the components of the theoretical framework. All of the above should be based on the promotion of critical thinking and argumentative capacity from the beginning of the university studies in order to develop a critical and reflective capacity so that it can be extrapolated in the future teaching action in the classroom. The tutorial action, the hypothesis of progression and the curriculum design must allow the establishment of strategies that improve the personalized attention of the students once they begin their research experience. Finally, training is crucial both for the teacher who guides the future educators and for the students themselves, since motivation and the strengthening of the teaching vocation are binding elements when it comes to integrating the skills pertaining to the professionals of the twenty-first century, more so when it comes to the teaching discipline as a field of study and training.

This research aimed to determine the effects a digital badge program had on the academic performance and participation in online activities in the English I course. The research design was experimental with post-test and control group. The sample consisted of 18 students from the first semester, enrolled in a blended learning model in a private university in Lima. There were statistically significant differences between the control and experimental group, which favored the experimental group. In addition, an effect size of 4.56 was found, which was considered very large. Regarding academic performance, no statistically significant differences were found. However, the effect size was 0.60, considered moderate. In conclusion, the digital badge program encouraged participation in virtual academic activities; however, the results obtained in connection with academic performance are not entirely clear, which is why it is suggested to conduct research in courses of different areas, with a broader sample.

The training on statistics is a phenomenon that has sparked great interest in recent years, which is evidenced by the increase in the number of research work at all educational levels. Technological development has brought with it important changes to society and has produced an immense amount of information that grows daily, which is why a different type of citizen and professional is needed; one who is able to understand and interpret the information that surrounds him or her. However, university students show unfavorable attitudes towards statistics, which can be seen in the unsatisfactory results in terms of learning and application. This is a bibliographic-documentary research that examines the elements that take part in the statistical teaching and learning processes at the university level. The exhibition is organized in four parts: the first presents the problems of statistical education in university classrooms; the second explains the cognitive levels involved; the third presents seven teaching models; and the last one examines the implications for the future of statistical education at the university level.

This article presents the analysis of the graduation profiles declared by the Education Doctoral programs in Chilean territory. This process was carried out in accordance with a Standard Graduation Profile, which spells out the competencies that a future doctor must possess after training. This profile includes the competences required in the current globalized context, taking into consideration national and international documentation, as well as the opinions of the doctoral students. Accordingly, it intends to analyze the consistency of each of the declared graduation profiles with respect to the standard graduation profile. The nature of the method used is descriptive and quantitative, with a cross-sectional design, using descriptive and association techniques. The results include the quantification of the disciplinary, methodological, instrumental, and generic competencies declared in the graduation profiles of the Education Doctoral programs in Chile, with the aim of contributing to their assessment within the national context. At the international level, a replicable methodology is presented for the analysis of the graduation profiles in doctoral programs.

This paper is conceived as a first contribution for a global ethnobotanical characterization of the most outstanding historic herbarium of the South American South Cone: the “Materia Medica Misionera”, assigned to the jesuit Pedro de Montenegro [1710] (1945). The aim of this work is the sistematization, quantification and interpretation -in their medical and historical context- of medicinal and non-medicinal applications assigned to each one of the plant items included in the Materia Medica Misionera. The methodology used corresponds to the historical ethnobotany, which considers the data of the past as a primary source of information on which the classical ethnobotanical method is applied. A total of 1234 uses grouped in 17 categories and assigned to 141 plant entities were referred to in the Materia Medica Misionera by its vernacular name. Medicinal uses assigned to 140 plant entities, grouped the major proportion (92,3 %) of the data (1142). The high volume of identified and sistematized data, its evident and valuable contribution to the missionary medical ethnobotany, and to the present Criollos’ medical ethnobotany and ethnomedicine of South Cone countries form South America, is here highlighted.

A small facet of one of the Jesuit-Guaranitic imprints is addressed in this work. The De la diferencia entre lo temporal y eterno of the Jesuit John Eusebio Nieremberg, translated into Guarani by Fr. Joseph Serrano and printed in 1705. The study has put us on the path of the circulation of materials for evangelization on both sides of the Atlantic and the Pacific and in the deep Europe, the one that the Jesuit Silvestro Landini called "le nostre Indie". We study here a testimony of the visual component of the spirituality and the evangelizing praxis of the Jesuits. Indeed, we will look at the series of engravings that the work brings to illustrate the meditation of the pains of hell in the context of what was called the postrimerías: death-judgment-heaven-hell. The engravings are finally compared with those of the work of the Jesuit Giovanni Pietro Pinamonti, Hell open to the Christian, to perceive the adaptations made on American soil.
