Resumen
In this paper we analyze the concentration of media ownership in Costa Rica. To measure economic concentration, we applied the Herfindahl-Hirschman index to the ownership of radio and open television, using data from the radio frequency concession contracts (radio and television) which show that the actual concentration of media is higher than what the formal ownership data suggests. In addition, through an analysis of the recent historic evolution of media concentration in Costa Rica (1990-2017), we show that concentration levels have intensified over the last three decades

Resumen
Two experiments carried out in Spain and the Netherlands tested the joint effects of imagined contact and similarity with a narrative protagonist on attitudes and behavioral intentions related to stigmatized immigrants. We advance a concept of optimal reception condition: imagining a positive interaction with an immigrant before reading a testimonial of an immigrant who is similar to the native audience. The optimal reception condition induced greater identification and transportation than the reference condition, leading to more positive attitudes and a higher intention of intergroup contact. The findings are discussed in the context of research on narrative persuasion and prejudice reduction.

Resumen
This study explores how and why scholars find collaborators using team formation systems. Based on theories of teams and human and social capital, we describe how scholars’ traits and social networks influence their team formation processes. We conducted a field study in Argentina in which 43 scholars used an online platform and assembled into eight interdisciplinary teams. Our results show that scholars initially tended to invite prior contacts connections, but eventually, they assembled cohesive interdisciplinary teams with members they did not know before. We conclude by reflecting on how team formation platforms can enable individuals to expand their social capital.

Resumen
Can journalistic coverage of gender issues affect the opinions of its readers and thus promote social change? In this process, are male and female journalists equally influential? To answer this, I conducted an experiment was conducted in which the perceived gender of a journalist who talks about sexual harassment was manipulated to measure its effect on the readers’ opinions of readers about the severity of this social problem. The results indicate that men are more influential, relationship a result that remains statistically significant among female participants, who also feel more compassion for victims of sexual harassment.

Resumen
This paper focuses on the identification of cyber-citizen practices through Twitter, in collective actions, the Gran Marcha Carnaval and popular consultations against La Colosa. It uses case study and virtual ethnography, with observation techniques and quantitative content analysis on three accounts: @defensavida, @marchacarnaval and @VotoNOMineria, as well as a coding matrix. Cyber-citizen practices are tested in an ideology legitimized in emotions, the defense of nature and network actions that connect the identity, the local-global relationship and the mobilization of resources and subjects.

Resumen
Local governments buy advertising space in the media, establishing commercial relationships with them. This work maps and critically reviews the advertising expenses of Chilean municipalities between 2012 and 2016, and identifies their main characteristics. Municipal expenses are concentrated in news media located in their areas of direct influence, there are differentiated dynamics between the municipalities of the Metropolitan Region and other regions of the country. It is also confirmed that electoral logics permeate decisions about institutional advertising.

Resumen
The aim of this research is to analyze the characteristics of the mass media coverage on female politicians in Uruguay, with emphasis on mentions of female and male senators in 2017. From the analysis of the media framework (framing), we used the content analysis method to study different key factors that serve to describe the differences between the media coverage of female and male political leaders in Uruguay. We concluded that the space given to female senators in the media is proportionally less than that of their male counterparts, and that traditional gender roles continue to be reproduced: women are underrepresented, stereotyped and excluded.
