In recent decades, diversity has gained space mainly in the academic discussion of organizational studies, labor relations, and human resource management. There are critical reflections on inequality, difference, and prejudice, as well as a considerable discursive appeal about business management practices linked to the ideas of productivity, creativity, and innovation. The multiplicity of diversity reveals its theoretical and empirical plurality that takes different paths when related to the dynamic relationships among societies, organizations, and people. We conducted a systematic review of the Brazilian scientific production on diversity, in publications in the area of Administration, in the scientific databases Google Scholar, Web of Science (WoS), Spell, and Scopus. We understand diversity as a debate of the new millennium therefore, the period analyzed was 2001 to 2019. The main results include: i) diversity in and of the papers; ii) the (in)definition and scope of the concept; iii) the emergence and growth of the topic; iv) the incipience of authorship and reference institution; v) the predominance of qualitative studies; vi) the (in)visibility of certain social markers given the breadth of the concept and theme.

This article proposes a theoretical framework to understand and reframe technological and management knowledge in the light of the critical theory of technology proposed by Andrew Feenberg (1999, 2002). We discuss the possibility of management technologies on another ideological basis, bringing together the perspective of classic and contemporary authors. Subsequently, we present the central concepts of the critical theory of technology and their potential to reframe technological knowledge in organizations. The main concepts approached are the ambivalence of technology, the subversive rationalization, and the reifying and integrative moments of technical practice. To reinforce our argument, we present an example of management technology that could be considered critical –Dragon Dreaming. We conclude that Andrew Feenberg’s theory can contribute to discussions on the critical practice of management as a technology. In addition, we point out the need to link management technologies with other liberating technological systems, integrating a broader political project.

This research investigated a community association whose way of organizing showed misalignment with the dominant organizational model. The results point to the term “limits” as a link to establish an organizational mode oriented toward “sufficiency” and “conviviality” as an alternative to economic growth and technical efficiency, characteristics of the dominant organizational logic. Sufficiency was characterized by the qualitative experience of the present moment, with an appreciation of simplicity and good living, elaborated from the renouncement of work aimed at the accumulation of material goods. Conviviality was demonstrated through the appreciation of affective relationships in detriment of results based on performance; conducting the organization through intuitive and contingency procedures to the detriment of formal planning; the development of emancipatory skills to achieve autonomy in the face of the industrial system and, finally, learning through free experimentation. The notion of “limits” in the organization studied is also in line with a narrative of renouncing the dominant model and of the human and nature sacralization. The discussion notes that the search for emancipation from technical domination can raise other forms of domination. In addition, the discussion points out the need for more precise definitions regarding the differentiation between conventional and alternative organizations since some characteristics that the literature attributes to alternative organizations are appropriated by the dominant model. Finally, it suggests that “technical efficiency” and “capitalist modes of organization” do not necessarily constitute interdependent categories.

Although relevant in historical and current contexts, topics related to indigenous people have received limited attention in the field of Administration Science in Brazil, which motivated this research. An epistemological approach was used by systematizing intellectual efforts and knowledge production in academic research. This paper aims to delimit analytical categories of research on topics related to indigenous people based on interest and knowledge derived from academic production in master and Ph.D. programs in Brazil, in the field of Administrative Science. It is an integrative bibliographic review anchored in lexical analysis with the aid of the Iramuteq software. The processing of the information generated four classes: “University and minority access to higher education,” “Land and conflicts,” “Organizations, management, and sustainability,” “Indigenous socio-political organization, state, and public policies.” The classes bring together theoretical and empirical bases, research procedures, locus, and focus, with non-managerial profiles and hybrid sociological approaches that harmonized in practical, technical, and emancipatory interests in the light of “Knowledge and Interests” from Habermas and the “Circle of Epistemic Matrices” from Paes de Paula. They reveal diversity in the epistemological choices of research in Administration, on indigenous themes, with hermeneutic, empirical-analytical, and critical bias.

Good practices in sustainability and circular economy are recurrently addressed in society since there is a transition in consumption behavior of a portion of the population, which aims to purchase eco-friendly products. This study analyzes how face-to-face fashion design undergraduate programs in Brazil are including premises of sustainability and circular economy. The theoretical framework is based on sustainable fashion and circular economy. The work consists of a survey with a qualitative and quantitative approach. Questionnaires were applied to coordinators, professors, and students of fashion design undergraduate programs. The results showed that good sustainability and circular economy practices are taught in fashion design programs. This teaching encourages students to adhere to good practices in sustainability, biodegradability, and ethical clothing manufacturing. There is evidence that the form of teaching adopted by the educational institution contributes to preparingqualified people to work in innovative markets and with different niches. Therefore, the undergraduate programs are aligned with the teaching of practices and provide knowledge so that professionals can disseminate good sustainable fashion practices. This study contributes by subsidizing coordinators of undergraduate programs so they can structure educational plans and include specific disciplines that emphasize contemporary and emerging circular economy and sustainability practices.

This article employs the experiential learning theory (ELT) through the construction of interventions to promote education for sustainability. This work contributes to understanding how constructivist approaches to learning can lead to a new proposal for management teaching, fostering sustainable development. Observing the need to develop a model, design science research was used as a research method to elaborate and test an artifact. The results demonstrated the effectiveness of the model. They indicated that, by adopting the ELT as a background to develop the initiative, it is possible to achieve the outcomes expected from the education for sustainability, especially encouraging reflections to change behaviors, increasing knowledge, and developing competencies for sustainability.

Research on the management of cultural organizations is increasingly gaining interest as we recognize the symbolic and material contributions of the creative economy to the development of contemporary societies. However, we lack an integrated and robust vision of such management, a vision based on a clear characterization of the field and its singularities. This article aims to characterize the academic production on the management of cultural organizations and outline a fruitful conceptual-theoretical horizon to stimulate future research. The methodology is based on a systematic review of academic production published in national and international databases. The analysis of the literature revealed the emergence of three categories: the perspectives about the central issues of the research on cultural organizations (from the technical-operational and political viewpoints), these organizations’ singularities (hypersensitivity, hypertension, and hyper-uncertainty), and the paradox as a crucial theoretical-conceptual axis to increase knowledge of cultural organizations. The results provide an agenda for future research based on the concept of paradox.
