For more than 30 years, the socio-environmental problems of the Sabana River-Tres Palos Lagoon sub-basin have been extensively studied; however, problems in the area remain unresolved. The objective of this article was to analyze the role that government, society, and academia have played in the co-production of knowledge aimed at solving the socio-environmental problems in the sub-basin. A qualitative approach was used, where in-depth interviews and ethnographic analyses were carried out; the information collected was examined using the software Atlas.Ti. Results show that the forms of knowledge construction are based on vertical knowledge oriented to cover short-term political needs, but not towards an inclusive approach of local actors. We conclude that there are socio-political conditions that have been historically strengthened, hindering the processes of co-production of knowledge and citizen, academic, and political co-management aimed at solving socio-environmental problems in the territory.

The objective of this study is to explore the differences in the psychological distress of young adults according to socioeconomic factors: sex, fear of crime, generalized trust, victimization, and satisfaction with democracy. A quantitative, cross-sectional, exploratory, and descriptive research was conducted with 937 participants from Ecuador, Spain, and Mexico, who answered the Clinical Outcomes in Routine Evaluation-10 (CORE-10) and a questionnaire on living conditions. Non-parametric analyses of differences between groups were performed. There were significant differences in Ecuador with indirect victimization, generalized confidence, and fear of crime; in Spain with direct victimization, generalized trust, and fear of crime; and in Mexico with gender, generalized trust, fear of crime, and satisfaction with democracy. Findings support the idea that psychosocial adversity can affect psychological wellbeing. These findings may have implications for the design of prevention and intervention actions that transcend a biomedical view directed towards young adults.

This paper aims to analyze the moderating effect of corporate governance on the relationship between business diversification and operational performance. The diversification literature shows empirical evidence that diversification can generate negative and positive returns in the firm; however, to our knowledge, few empirical studies have considered the impact of corporate governance to shed light on this relationship. We use data from 134 companies listed on the Mexican Stock Exchange (BMV, from its Spanish acronym) during the 2011-2018 period. Secondary data from 134 companies listed on the BMV during the period 2011-2018 were used and subjected to panel data analysis techniques. The main finding shows a positive effect on the implementation of corporate governance practices when diversification occurs in its unrelated form. This finding allows to identify the conditions under which diversification achieves better results for companies that use this growth strategy.

This study introduces an innovative model of cooperation and communication among a collective of Marxbot robots. The primary task involves the retrieval and deposition of raw materials onto a processing band, as well as the collection and placement of finished products onto a packaging band. The robots are controlled using artificial neural networks (ANN), which are optimized using a genetic algorithm (GA) within the framework for autonomous robotics simulation and analysis (FARSA) environment. Our simulations have demonstrated that homogeneous robot groups utilizing emergent communication via light emitting diodes (LED) significantly outperform those with predefined signal systems or no communication capabilities. The superior performance is attributed to the organizational structure that arises from signal emergence within the group dynamics and environmental interactions. These findings emphasize the relevance of evolutionary robotics (ER) principles in meeting the demands of Industry 4.0.

Biotic and environmental conditions could affect the plant-flower visitor dynamics and, consequently, the fruit set in angiosperms. The aims of this study were: 1) to test the effect of microenvironment on activity of flower visitors in a population of Astrophytum myriostigma and 2) to describe the plant-flower visitor network’s structure. Data were recorded during two synchronous flowerings. The effect of microenvironment on flower visitors’ activity was tested through generalized linear models, and the interaction network structure was described. Frequency and duration of visits were mainly affected by atmospheric pressure and dew point. There were fewer flower visitors on plants located close to nurses and rocks. The interaction network topology tends to have a nested structure. Due to pollinators’ decline, these findings help understand the drivers limiting the flower visitors’ activity. The interactions between flower visitors and plants could be affected by atmospheric pressure alterations triggered by climate change.

The present research examines the creative learning of software engineering within the Computer Engineering course at the University of Matanzas. Software engineering was selected for investigation due to its potential to facilitate creative learning during the training of computer professionals. To this end, a foundation of creativity and its relationship with creative learning is established, which allows the definition of creative learning in software engineering. The current state of creative learning in students from the degree course under analysis is then diagnosed, where its insufficient development is identified. The objective is to develop a system of didactic activities that contributes to the creative learning of software engineering in the third year of the Computer Engineering course. Finally, a specialist criterion is used to evaluate the proposal.

The sense of coherence (SOC) construct has demonstrated various health benefits among individuals with diabetes. The primary objective of this study was to assess the psychometric properties of the 13-item version of the orientation to life questionnaire in Spanish. This investigation employed an instrumental research design, involving 220 individuals diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. The assessment of reliability was conducted using McDonald's omega coefficient (0.79) and Cronbach's alpha (0.78). To evaluate construct validity, a confirmatory factor analysis was performed. Findings affirm the replicability of the three-factor model (RMSEA = 0.08, CFI = 0.91, TLI = 0.90) as proposed by the instrument's developer. These results provide strong empirical support for the use of the 13-item life orientation scale as a valid and reliable instrument for application with Mexican population living with diabetes.

This paper presents partial results of a research in progress. In it, the way in which university students from the technical area of the Universidad Veracruzana (UV) inform themselves about Energy Environmental Education (EEE) is studied. The objective of this work is to understand the possible integration of the environmental dimension in energy education in the curricular structure (CS). The content analysis of eight study plans is presented here, in which various segments related to EEE were identified based on defined substantive and formal categories. Findings show a strong intention regarding the introduction of sustainability; however, in some curriculums, counterpositions with a bias towards an extractivist culture were detected.

Influencer activism is a phenomenon presented in recent years as a way to communicate and confront different social and ecological problems. Influencer activists carry out marketing practices such as branding, use of social media with digital marketing strategies, and even collaboration with brands and institutions. This article aims to determine whether the credibility of body-positive influencer activists has an impact on the perception of body acceptance of their followers. The sample for this study consists of 211 people who followed two Instagram accounts from influencers that create content about body acceptance. The results suggest that the variables expectations of citizen behavior, expectations of support for the cause, and attractiveness influence the attitude toward body acceptance.

To know the feasibility of alternative uses of sediments accumulated in La Esperanza dam, in the municipality of Guanajuato, they were subjected to quantitative chemical analysis. It was found that the contents of precious metals and rare earths make the economic exploitation of the sediments feasible. Additionally, the sediments, after sieved, were used to produce bricks. The results of compression, porosity, and adsorption tests were compared with those of bricks produced using clays from communities in the municipalities of Irapuato and Abasolo. No statistically significant differences were found in the results of the bricks produced with the three types of clays used; therefore, the sediments could be used to produce bricks. In this way, metals with high commercial value can be extracted from the sediments, and once processed they can be used to make bricks for the construction sector.
