Cladocerans are microscopic crustaceans widely used as live food for fish larvae due to their nutritional value and easy culture. The objective was to identify the species of cladocerans present in the temporary and permanent aquatic environments of the state of Morelos. Some physical and chemical parameters were taken, in addition to zooplankton collections, in 130 bodies of water. A total of 33 species included in the families Bosminidae, Chydoridae, Daphniade, Ilyocryptidae, Macrothricidae, Polyphemidae, Sididae, and Moinidae were identified, where the species of the Daphnidae family stand out for their abundance and frequency. It was reported that in these aquatic systems lie the species that are generally used as live food, such is the case of Moina cf. micrura, Diaphanosoma birgei, Daphnia laevis, and Daphnia cf. mendotae. Moina wierzejski is recorded as a species that inhabits in lakes, dams, and reservoirs and which is used as food for fish larvae.

In semi-arid regions of the planet, it is of great importance to evaluate the degree of water stress experienced by supply sources due to the low availability of water. This becomes even more relevant with the increasing demand and the alteration in precipitation patterns trending towards drought because of climate change. This study evaluated the degree of water stress in the municipalities of Guanajuato by considering the demands and availability of sources, using the water scarcity index. The results show that 86% of the municipalities have a degree of water stress ranging from moderate to extremely high. Additionally, it was observed that only 11% of the municipalities reduce their water stress when drip irrigation with 95% efficiency is implemented, and this reduction occurs six years after its implementation.

The Agave genus is one of the most representative of Mexico; however, the reproduction of maguey pulquero has decreased considerably. To promote its sexual reproduction, the objective was to evaluate the emergence and development of A. salmiana using seven substrates. Days to emergence (DTE), emergence percentage (PE), emergence velocity index (EVI), and cotyledon leaf height (CLH) were quantified 21 days after sowing. No significant differences were found between the cob and the maguey bagasse for DTE and EVI. It was found that peat and maguey bagasse developed the same CA. The lowest values for DTE, EVI, and CLH were found in soil and mixture of soil with cob. Perlite, peat, cob, and maguey bagasse emerged between 5.7 d and 6.5 d. Maguey bagasse is considered an alternative to the use of commercial substrates for germination and development in initial stages of A. salmiana.

Breathing training is useful for modifying the emotional and autonomic state. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of diaphragmatic breathing on autonomic activity and emotional state of irregular university students. Through non-probability sampling and without a control group, a relaxation training was performed. Emotional (anxiety, depression, and stress) and autonomic variables (galvanic skin conductance [GSC] and heart rate [HR]) were measured to compare the records before and after training. The intervention promoted significant decreases in levels of depression (t = 5.559, gl = 28, p < 0.001), as well as in anxiety and stress (t = 6.432, gl = 28, p < 0.001). GSC also decreased (t = 2.327, gl = 28, p = 0.027) but not HR (t = 0.405, gl = 28, p = 0.689). That is, people were less stressed, but not more relaxed. Diaphragmatic breathing is effective for emotional control and autonomic functioning of irregular university students.

The current environmental situation motivates us to reevaluate the production and consumption model used in various processes of the economy. In public transport, technical efficiency could help quantify the services and resources consumed and improve public budget management. The objective of this work is to characterize the technical, social, and fair rate implemented by the route-company program in the metropolis of Guadalajara, Mexico, through the conceptualization of the demand elasticities and indicators of transportation services. Results showed the effects on the income of businessmen, bus drivers, and users due to the risks in the provision of the service. Likewise, there are annual discussions and negotiations that complicate the establishment of a fair rate, compromising the sustainability of mobility in the city.

The present work aims to develop a proposal of indicators that allow measuring entrepreneurial, innovative, and social commitment activities in state public universities (UPE, from its Spanish acronym) in Mexico, in order to assess the progress these institutions have made regarding their Third Mission. The technique of analysis and interpretation of information is employed through the comparison of content in documents from primary and secondary sources. Results show that a proposal is made in accordance with the characteristics of UPE, which includes eight indicators for entrepreneurship, 13 for innovation, and three for social commitment. Finally, it is concluded that having a suitable system of indicators adapted to the reality in our country allows to identify and evaluate activities directly related to this mission, aiming to generate and apply knowledge that contributes to the promotion of regional, national, or international development.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the correlation of chronic stress and its psychophysiological symptoms as predictors of irritable bowel syndrome in dental students from a public university in Mexico. The study was cross-sectional and analytical. A representative and random sample of 740 students was evaluated in 2022. The Stress Symptom Inventory and the ROME III Criteria were used. The analysis was done through multiple regression. Results showed that chronic stress and physical symptoms (dry mouth and hypertension) as well as psychological symptoms (feeling tied and tendency to be scared by small noises) were associated, and they were predictors of the presence of irritable bowel syndrome. It is concluded that the identification of stress factors could influence a timely diagnosis and prevent their harmful effects on health and on the academic performance of students.

Mangroves are ecosystems susceptible to changes caused by anthropogenic or natural sources, which include contaminant spills, pests, and atmospheric phenomena. This work reports the identification of larvae of the defoliating insect and the mangrove areas that this organism affected in Paraíso, Tabasco, at the end of 2020. The methodology was based on the delimitation and quantification of areas affected by defoliation, as well as the capture and observation of the development of the insect. Seven affected areas were found, totaling 116 ha. The most affected trees were Rhizophora mangle and Laguncularia racemosa, whose location was near brackish effluents. The species was identified as Hylesia colimatifex (Saturniidae), which appeared and disappeared in parallel with the flooding at the site.

The objective of this study was to detect the training needs of farmers located in San Pablo Huixtepec, Oaxaca, to strengthen their entrepreneurial skills through the Borich model (1980). This initiative has been used in the educational area and in the food sector based on the needs of the participants. Non-probabilistic convenience sampling was done with information from 30 farmers interested in training. From a list of 16 themes, the weighted mean discrepancy scores were calculated and classified according to their priority. Those that obtained the highest score were the use of networks to promote products and services (WMDS = 5.13), the management of technologies (ICT) for the promotion and development of the product (WMDS = 4.63), and the recognition of opportunities for the growth of the productive unit (WMDS = 4.62).

Labor precariousness reflects vulnerability in working conditions and affects the well-being of workers and their families. The objective of this paper was to analyze labor precariousness of young Mexicans with respect to their undergraduate program. To this end, two groups were considered: graduates of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) and graduates of other types of careers (Non-STEM). The National Occupation and Employment Survey was applied, and using the k-means method young people were classified as high or low precariousness. Precariousness in both groups has increased in the last 17 years. Furthermore, those who graduated from a STEM career are slightly less likely to be in more precarious jobs. Despite of the fact that education is the motor of economic growth, working conditions of those with university studies are deteriorating. So, it is important to generate policies in order to improve the employment conditions of young people.
