The chair seats the human body, identifies and reflects the memory of its silhouette and gives meaning to what it reproduces, something or someone, for there is a presence that suggests a similar image, a mirror. Starting from the question “How to interpret the formal similarity of the chair with the body? “, This paper aims to show the chair as the real expression of the body, which, in turn, is the fact that generates its form. For the accomplishment of this study, the comparative and descriptive method was used, from which an investigationwas made on the furniture produced by designers-artists, allowing a comparison of the morphology adapted to the artifact. These have forms of corporeity, with which we have made comparisons and artistic overlays, demonstrating the use of the body as an image of universal value, in which it is a desire of the form that is indicated by the chair, causing new sensory perceptions.

We review design as an area whose practical and scientific knowledge demonstrates capacity for innovation in the consumer goods production system, which presents ethical and environmental issues that profoundly affect our society. In this system, we identify solidarity economy’s enterprises as an interesting economic, cultural and environmental alternative, due to its values of self- management, cooperation and solidarity, and its proposal for sustainable production. In this way, we tried to conceptualize, through the literature review, the approaches of Collaborative Design, Participatory Design and Design Thinking, with the purpose of investigating paths for the contribution of design in the productive activities of solidary economic enterprises and to understand what would be the role of design in this context.

This paper presents, from the point of view of Information Design, a comparative analysis from the graphic representation of a research project through the mapping of information by Robert Horn (1993) and the graphic tools of Yvonne Hansen (1999). The objective of this paper is to compare the representation of a research project from the study of the tools proposed by these authors. The methodology adopted is based on bibliographical research as the main technical procedure and from this practice it is proposed to analyze comparatively the two tools. As results, it was noted that Horn’s information mapping is not efficient in the initial phase of problem study but it is useful when it is necessary to organize information; and that Hansen’s graphic tools can be used in the initial process of specifying a problem because they are efficient in clarifying ideas and understanding concepts.

The globalization process makes the system linking producers and consumers more complex and extensive. The design has been increasingly used as a method or process for developing new products, concepts and strategies in ways that make companies more competitive. In recent years, the area of Design has been questioning the delimitations that specify this field, since it has interfaced with many other fields and becomes more interdisciplinary. The alliance and partnership of disconnected areas facilitated the creation of new interdisciplinary links, improving the understanding and mastery of their discoveries. In this way, what would be the role of Design within a university, as an independent discipline and as an articulator within a university? The article approaches innovation as the link between the university-company relationship and exposes how design has been inserted within an innovation model of a specific university.

The article explores the starting process of design education in Rio Grande do Sul State based on a survey and analysis of three initiatives at the Faculty of Architecture, Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (FA-UFRGS). More specifically, it is a chapter of a doctoral thesis regarding the creation of the design in local scope. The tools used in this essay were: interviews, gathering and analysis of historic documents as well as literature review. It was verified that the academic debate that took place, in the 1960s, at FA-UFRGS stimulated pioneer actions in teaching industrial design. However, a combination of events and institutional factors hindered the successful implementation of the industrial design course. The present discussion may contribute to the understanding of why the implementation of design teaching was late in Rio Grande do Sul State.

The present paper sought to present the methodology used in the doctoral thesis held at ESDI/UERJ. This, in turn, aimed to analyze the artifacts brought in, made or acquired by Italian immigrants, and how they were present in the lives of their descendants. Thus, questions were raised regarding the characteristics that guided Italian immigration in Brazil and Rio Grande do Sul and the settlement in the region of Quarta Colônia. In the sequence, it was pointed out the way in which the adopted methodology was constructed so that the study in question was established. This process led to the cataloging and classification of more than 300 artifacts, as well as the analysis of these by interpretive dimensions. Thus, it reached the results presented by the researched scenario, which provided the discussion about the methodology and the appropriate techniques for performing a detailed examination of artifacts and narratives.

This paper examines the practice of type revival as a significant example of appropriation in type design. The practice is analyzed by an ethical bias in the professional approach, with focus on methods of production, authorship, registration and distribution of digital fonts. The investigation of the main ethical conflicts are based on articles by Vanderlans (1996) and Downer (1996), identifying the limits of appropriation accepted in typography, alongside with the interpretations of authorship, legal registration and commercial law may have. The consultation of moral codes from professional associations provides guidelines regarding the social and professional responsibility of the designer, in accordance with the precepts of intellectual property applied to type design, observed from the legal point of view by Andrade Lima (2006) and Barroca (2008). At the end, it is defined a set of notes for the ethical behavior in the production of digital fonts of type revival.

This paper discusses the concept of metaproject from the lens of complexity theory. For this reason, it is based on the main concepts of complexity theory based on Morin (2006) and Capra (1996) and the different theoretical aspects about to support the analysis. Finally, a view on the metaproject concept is proposed from the epistemology of complexity.

The study proposed a complex educational experience in which didactic, research and university social responsibility is integrated with a sample of 31 students from the Faculty of Education of the National University of San Marcos, in a projection to the rural school No. 8861 "Manuel Scorza Torre", of the district of Lomas de Carabayllo, through the application of the case study and the practice of developing a class with active and innovative strategies for schoolchildren at the primary level of said educational institution. Direct and virtual interviews were conducted prior to the field experience. The attitude of commitment of the university students and the understanding of the reality of the populated center, the economic, social and cultural diversity of the rural school, as well as the common environmental problem of the area are observed.
