Indigenous culture composes a right for the people identified with it. Over time, changes occur, and the survival of the cultures requires improvement and maintenance, which does not mean that an indigenous person ceases to belong to their people. Based on the premise that stereotypes violate image and generate damage to indigenous persons, the research adopts the deductive method, with a review of the legal literature and legislation on the subject. It`s concluded the indigenous culture is a differential, which cannot harm them in relation to hegemonic social pattern of society.

This work aims to analyse the role that the modernist magazine Contemporânea played in popularizing Iberian theories in the Lusitanian area, between 1922 and 1926, to promote an economic revival and an intercultural exchange between Spain and Portugal, which suffered a setback after the end of the Iberian Union (1580-1640). In the context of the “Iberian Studies”, this work proposes the textual analysis of the articles that contribute to the diffusion of Iberian doctrines to re-establish the transnational dialogue between the two areas and to resolve, mostly, the state of general decline.

Landscape painting became an artistic expression of a budding national identity in Cuba during the second half of the nineteenth century. A “Cuban style” of painting emerged as the island experienced three major wars of independence from Spain (1868–98), as well as the maturation of the sugar plantation economy and the abolition of slavery in 1886. The Romantic representation of the local physical environment as an allegory of Cubanness became a leading genre in the island’s painting. Emblematic features of the Cuban countryside, such as the royal palm tree, the peasant hut, and the small independent farmer, became entrenched in landscape paintings between 1850 and 1920.

This article analyzes interlinguistic translation in Beauty [Nosilatiaj. la belleza] (2012), film written and directed by Daniela Seggiaro. The film allows us to study the relationship between Wichí (phenomenon of code-switching and code-mixing) and Spanish from a cultural, linguistic and proxemic perspective through different passages in which alternately the characters dialogue in Spanish and in Wichí. The young protagonist will use Wichí, her native language, to evoke the moment when, an apparently banal event redefines her future.

This paper aims to address the operation of military justice in Argentina during the period of the so-called "National Organization" that began in the mid-nineteenth century. We will review the influence and survival of the Spanish military tradition expressed in the military ordinances issued by Carlos III (1768) together with the different modalities used by the military authorities to repress military crimes. For this analysis, we will delve into aspects related to the management of internal discipline and military justice that is expressed in the punitive practices applied in various situations within the units of the Army of the Line, together with the laws and military decrees sanctioned during the second mid-nineteenth century in Argentina.

In this paper, we comparatively investigate Los Días de la Peste (2017), by Edmundo Paz Soldán, and Cadáver Exquisito (2018), by Agustina Bazterrica, from a concept that is still little explored in Latin American literary criticism: post-pessimism. We observe in the works similar perspectives in the narrative framework, such as: the figuration of social problems through dystopian narratives; the constitution of characters between resignation and stoic acceptance of the unfair experienced situations; the representation of different forms of violence as central axes of the novels.

This article inquiries into the relationships between the archive, the state violence and the images as metaphors of the mutilated, murdered and disappeared body in the works of Bruno Varela, Volatilidad (2015), Fauna nociva (2015) y Materia oscura (2016). In order to achieve the latter, the ways in which the official narrative, issued by the State, is enunciated from the indeterminacy and erasure of the bodies and of the images and documents that serve as expert evidence and testimonies of the violent exercise are put into question from a Visual Studies approach.

This article analyzes some of the photographs that appeared in the Granma newspaper during the Mariel crisis in 1980, and their uses in the characterization and negative institution of the Cuban migrant. The theoretical axes are the category "institutional rites" proposed by Pierre Bourdieu, and the "underexposure" worked by George Didi-Huberman. The study reflects on the role of the press image, allied to power, and its strategies to construct representations of the subjects that generate positions and social behaviors towards them.

Era uma vez Brasília (2017), by Adirley Queirós, and Democracia em vertigo (2019), by Petra Costa, are two contemporary documentary films that deal, each in its own way, with of the main political events in the Brazilian scenario, since the beginning of President Dilma Rousseff's second term, through an essayistic bias. Therefore, this article presents and discusses the essayistic vocation of both documentaries, with regard to the critique of the Brazilian political conjuncture.

The purpose of this essay is to reflect on the aesthetic and political implications that emerge from the intensive use of public space through images expressing social unrest in walls, streets and monuments in the context of the revolt of October 18 in Chile. At the same time, the ideological implications of its counterpart are analyzed, that is, the ostensible censorship of such images through the use of a set of coercive and disciplinary devices aimed to appropriate the public space, as a social space and symbolic power always in dispute.
