Self-efficacy beliefs have recently been investigated in studies of physics teaching, and are relevant for studying the self-evaluation of individuals on perceived performance in specific tasks. We conducted an exploratory study with 170 students from the Universidade Federal do Oeste do Pará, in which they were asked to respond to the following question: “How does self-efficacy, in physics, of students from the Universidade Federal do Oeste do Pará vary in the dimensions of gender identity and race/color?”. Results of applying theSources of Self-Efficacy in Science Courses questionnaire, translated by us into Portuguese and revalidated with α = 0.94, indicate moderate mean differences in self-efficacy in physics, in favor of men, with these variations associated mainly with the source of vicarious experience.

The study aims to refine the concept of resilient schools. It is based on a document and content analysis of 116 articles and 38 internal documents from Portuguese border schools. The focus on these schools brings attention to contextual factors, being useful to think on challenges of peripheral schools worldwide. Articles’ findings indicated the prevalence of an individualistic approach to resilience. Results of educational projects of border region schools highlighted local specificities, suggesting the relevance of an ecological approach to conceptualize resilient schools. This concept contributes to a situated understanding of a combination of factors that may improve schools’ organisation and dynamics particularly in challenging settings.

This text analyzes the career and the remuneration of teachers, working in the state education network of Rio Grande do Sul, based on data from 2010 to 2019. The analysis is based on theoretical and normative elements related to the professionalization and valorization of teachers, as well as others, of contextual nature, of the state government finances. It presents a characterization of the composition of the teaching staff, its allocation at different stages in the career and the dynamics of salaries according to the career plan. The devaluation of the state teachers is showed in the increase in the hiring of temporary teachers, in the non-execution of promotions, in the noncompliance with the payment of the national professional minimum wage, and the deferring of full paychecks through the strategy of paying salaries in installments.

This article aims to contribute to discussions on research groups in the field of education and the methodological possibilities for researching them. Aspects about the relevance of the groups are presented based on specialized, international literature. A brief history of research groups in Brazil, the situation of research on these groups in the area of education, and the possibilities of investigation are also presented. Five areas of investigation are outlined, structured in three levels of approach: macro, meso and micro. It is argued in favor of the relevance of research on the subject, considering that, alongside the graduate disciplines, mentoring sessions and participation in scientific events, research groups are fundamental spaces for the acquisition of scientific habitus.

This article discusses the writings of Fúlvia Rosemberg and her contribution to social and educational research. It analyzes in the author’s work the concepts of “non-synchrony” of social hierarchies at the intersection of the hierarchies of race, gender, and age in educational policies and of whiteness, understood as the norm of humanity, which reveals the naturalized social norm at the center of the black-white hierarchy and the need to criticize it. The concepts mobilized and the form of analysis keep vivid the interest of the work and the concepts for the analysis of educational and social inequalities.

What social processes determine the choice of knowledge that circulates in indigenous schools? This question may shed light on the modalities of power that contribute to forging collective meanings of education in local communities. The article presents research aimed to answer this question. We made direct observation of two schools in Guarani territories in SP and conducted interviews and informal conversations with their teachers and leaders. The results describe the influence of governmental conduct, teaching conceptions, and community preferences on the conformation of school work. The performance of indigenous teachers stands out, who produce circumscribed practices of autonomy that, in the small-scale perspective of the logic of educational innovation, overcome the colonialist norm that historically shaped schools for indigenous people.

The present study addresses school dropout, a topic of interest at national and international levels. This construct responds to ways of understanding excellence within hierarchies (social, educational or cultural). We are interested in its analysis, based on an intersectional aspect in which gender certainly plays a key role. The analysis is based on qualitative research conducted using semi-structured interviews with 18 girls, aged 12 to 16 years, born in Cádiz (Spain), who dropped out of school. Nvivo11 was applied to the processing of the data. The young participants show that gender is significant: the responsibility for care, or stereotyped roles, among other elements, are the reasons for dropping out.

In this article, we reflect on the role of alterity in the construction of the activism of a student feminist collective inserted into a federal education institution. It is a participatory study, whose corpus of analysis consists of a field diary, documentary analysis and a conversation group with the participants. The study is in the field of Social Psychology, on the Theory of Social Representations and the Theory of Active Minorities, in dialogue with feminist theorists. We observed that the relationships of alterity form a key point in the creation and performance of the feminist collective participating in the school environment. We concluded that the performance of young women as an active minority played a central role for the collective to achieve its objectives and strengthen its identification with feminism.

Grounded Theory is one of the most commonly used types of qualitative research. However, in Portugal, it is little applied in the educational sciences, despite its potential for the study of complex environments, such as education. This dissonance suggests that this type of research is not sufficiently well known, or it is believed to be difficult to use. My objective is to offer a panoramic view of Grounded Theory, which constitutes a model to initiate the practice. I describe when it becomes relevant, the steps and characteristics of the process (data collection to build theory, open coding, immediate data analysis, induction, openness, memos and constant comparison) and the expected scientific product. I conclude that the use of this research type can contribute to scientific developments, as it is based on flexible and heuristic procedures and welcomes the uncertain nature of education and the serendipity that emerges from it.

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the potential impacts of the latest Labor Reform and specific measures taken by the sector, such as the progress in Distance Learning (EaD), on the labor universe of professors acting in private higher education in Brazil. Law n. 13,467/2017 was passed by the Temer Administration on the grounds of creating “legal certainty” and modernizing labor relations. In this regard, we intend to analyze the turnover of professors in the databases composed of administrative records of the Ministry of Economy in order to verify whether, beyond the news of specific cases, the sector as a whole is already experiencing noticeable changes in their employment levels, in the volume of dismissals and hiring, and whether specific provisions of the Labor Reform are already been complied with.
