Following the spirit of reflection of the patriarch of Peruvian literature, this presentation will analyze the social inequality in the Tradiciones peruanas, through the interpretation of the phrases and thoughts that Ricardo Palma includes in his writings. It also intends to contextualize this topic with the social reality of our times, in order to understand the history of our problems and from there write a new path of freedom and social justice.

This paper will analyze the traditions «La muerte del factor», «El peje chico» and «Las orejas del alcalde», highlighting the historical character of the Traditions, their importance for the history of Peru and pointing out the way in which Ricardo Palma combines literature with history, making a comparison with the style of other Peruvian writers such as the chronicler Felipe Guamán Poma de Ayala in his chronicle Nueva crónica y buen gobierno and César Vallejo with his work Hacia el reino de los Sciris.

This presentation will discuss the result of the research on «La Casa de Pilatos», text from Tradiciones peruanas, representative compendium of Ricardo Palma whose nickname was the «Bibliotecario Mendigo». We are particularly interested in highlighting the descriptive relationship of this building which has an architecture of the nineteenth century and a specific construction, and that also it is currently standing and functioning as the headquarters of the Constitutional Court of Peru. This essay will also analyze the considerations taken for «La Casa de Pilatos» to be considered as National Cultural Heritage since January 1973.
