In response to the forthcoming proclamation of Hildegard of Bingen as a doctor of the Church, announced by Pope Benedict XVI for October 7,2012, this arricie reflects on the relationship between experience and language in Christian mysticism. After the necessary demarcation of epistemological frameworks -historical, phenomenological and theological- in which the issue has been addressed, an integrated response of both traditions is put for- ward on the basis of the theological aesthetic principie Hans Urs von Balthasar called “visión of the figure”. The thesis is based on the analysis of the descritive, interpretive and plástic text of the Prologue and First Vision in the First Part of the Corpus Scivias and the letters that were addressed by Bernard of Clairvaux, Guibert of Gembloux.

Coming from the transcendental method of Lonergan, this article offers an explanation of how understanding ethics as existential ethics leads us to leave to one side metaphysical-abstract categories and invites us to an ethical reflection using categories which arise from acts of our conscience. Moral conscience shows itself to be decisive in making decisions; inclusive, in so far as it integrates the levels of understanding and judgment and uplifting, in so far as it is open to a possible superior integration, given that the transcendental notion of value can be intrinsically enriched by the religious experience of being totally enamored.Using the transcendental method, to make explicit the basic principles, allows one to take into account the reality of man as a historic being in transformation and to integrate moral and religious experience in the understanding of ethical behaviour. In this way ethical thought is based on living history, which is made evident in the self-making of the individuals and the self-building of the moral life of a community or a people.

During the so-called "Arian crisis" of the fourth century, the interpretation of Pr 8,22 was able to reveal the theological orientation of the various actors. The verse had a particular difficulty because, in it, wisdom declares: "The Lord created me (KÚpioi; sktigsv ps)" and, according to the dominant tradition, this wisdom is the Son of God. This article aims to reconstruct the interpretation that Marcelo de Ancira gave to the discussed verse and explore its hermeneutical principles. To assess its scope and origi- nality, before presenting the interpretation of the Bishop of Ancira, a tour of the interpretation of Pr 8, 22 in the previous Christian tradition is offered.

The starting point of this paper is the old debate on which kind of interpretationis more appropriate for the Song of Songs, namely, literal or allegorical, and towhat extent. Treating the poem as a literary work and letting it speak for itself, metaphor emerges as the main expressive resource referring to a multi-dimensionalreality. The analysis of metaphor in the Song of Songs, based on selectedsamples, reveals highly developed metaphoric speech in the poem, with imagesaccumulating and interacting inmultiple, concurrent andmutually enriching levelsofmeaning. Behind this complex intertwining ofmetaphors there emerges themain referent for the book as a whole. Metaphor, then, appears as a particularlyadequate means of articulating both anthropological and theological discourse.
