Theobald, Cristoph
Universidad Católica Argentina
This text corresponds to the presentation of Christoph Theobald to a group of professors of Theology, members of the Argentine Society of Theology. It proposes pastoral destination or pastorality as a key to a transformation of theological work. This puts him before the requirement to think about the cultural diversifications we face and finally redefine theology as the “cultural laboratory” of the Church.

The beatification of the Riojan martyrs, as a magisterial act, needs a process of recep- tion in the history and life of the communities. To achieve this reception it is necessary to incorporate various readings of the martyrial event and its meanings. This re-rea- ding process also requires validation and recognition criteria in order to generate narratives that are both historically and theologically legitímate and that allow an approximation to the testimony of the martyrs that is significant when walking the People of God in history and in the society. Criteria such as fidelity to the council, continuity and historical discontinuity of the subjects, presence of the Church in the world, among others and without claim of exclusivity, seek to help frame and raise various hermeneutics that enrich the provocation that God makes to his Church to Through the life of these witnesses.

"Read Balthasar urgently." In May 68, J.M. Lustiger directed this exhortation to a group of young philosophers, among whom was J.-L. Marion, who will later recognize the decisive character that the balthasarian theological aesthetics exercised in the gestation of his phenomenology of the gift. In order to ponder this theological aesthetic matrix, the article proposes to consider the glory of love manifested in the figure of revelation from the dynamism of donation-reception and revelation in concealment. From the trinitarian logic of the paschal mystery and the phenomenological unavailability of the origin, hospitality is proposed as a trinitarian and anthropological key of the second circle of reception of balthasarian aesthetics and dramatic.

Although this article does not intend to “spiritualize” Father Rafael Tello’stheology, it offers some of the currents where the spirituality of popular pastoralis nurtured, of which the Argentinean theologian is one of its most originalrepresentatives. We shall inquire into certain theological cores which willallow us to register a sense of continuity between theology and life, whileleaving us on the threshold of an evangelizing proposal that is impossible tocomprehend without this way of living Christian faith. Together with traditionalfigures in mystic and theology such as Saint John of the Cross andSaint Thomas Aquinas, father Tello proposes that we recreate the experiencesof the Gospel for contemporary times.

The objective of this report is to witness the inspiring role played by Lucio Gera in the gestation of the Permanent Interdisciplinary Seminar Literature, Aesthetics and Theology. Towards the end of 1997 we agreed to organize, within the framework of the Theological Research Institute, Faculty of Theology (UCA), of which he was the first director, a seminar in which theology began to establish a dialogue with academic literature. The multifaceted figure of Lucio Gera, guide and mentor of several generations, was also deployed in the search field of beauty. Seen from the recapitulating standpoint of his death, his life and his work –which overcomes every reductionist dualism–, show their real importance and the fecundity of the love which inspired them, and invite us to keep on exploring new paths.

E. Levinas proposes a way of understanding the subjectivity that differs from the transcendental and constituent conscience of the modern Philosophy. It is not the Being, not even the knowledge, what determines the subjectivity but the Good that precedes the being and calls to the responsibility for the other one with a Saying pre- vious to the linguistic discourse. The trace of that call in the face of the other one refers to an Infinite that demands from the alterity. God does not come through the unveiled being but from the absolute difference between the Same and the Other one, where that one is alloted to this one in the way one-for-the-other one. The sugges- tions of this thinker question indirectly the theological work that is built over the being and it only gives place to a way of thematic knowledge.
