Introduction. Video games have proven to be a valuable resource to work different school subjects and topics. Beyond specific content, they could help to develop different abilities, like problem solving. However, not much has been studied on this topic, or many of the studies followed a perspective not entirely compatible with an educational approach.Method. Based on the theory of information processing we analyse the problem-solving processes presented in a classroom when the commercial game Sim City Creator was introduced. The data come from an ethnographic study conducted in a secondary school in Madrid, with students of 3 º ESO, where Sim City Creator was used in Socio-Linguistic Area. Qualitative approach and case study perspective along with discourse analysis was the frame for the data analysis.Results. When students are faced with the problems of the game, they build representations. To do so, they identify the necessary operators, located in the game menu, also considering the conditions exposed by them, the teacher or the game play, which narrow the problem space. Also, in order to solve the problems students use different strategies, among which we highlight the use of previous schemes and the establishment of subgoals.Discussion and conclusion. Commercial video games used in educational settings can be-come valuable resources to develop problem-solving processes. The support of teachers and their knowledge of the game are a valuable asset when it comes to take advantage of the game, favouring the construction of representations of the different problems that appear during the game

Introduction. This study presents an experience developed with PhD students aimed to analyze the extent to which career self-management should be approached along with entrepreneurship issues to promote students’ career development.Method. An intervention group who attended a Career Self-Management Seminar (EG1), a comparison group who attended the CSMS followed by a Seminar on Entrepreneurship (EG2), and a control group (CG) were compared, in three different moments (pre-test, post-test, and follow-up).Results. Results at an intra and inter-group level indicate that the EG1 and the EG2 significantly increased the extent of self-exploration, the intended-systematic exploration, and the amount of acquired information over time, and also their concerns related to holding and up-dating their careers. According to the longitudinal research plan, the EG1 participants benefited most of this career intervention.Discussion and Conclusion. The results suggest the effectiveness of the career seminar in most of the career development measures, particularly in comparison with the non-intervention. Implications are drawn to the development of career services and interventions that promote a reflection about entrepreneurship as a career path

The concept of creativity has been the subject of much research since the 1950s. These theories mainly focus on the individual, personal characteristics of creativity. However, in the past few decades this person-centered spectrum of creativity has been broadened, and today we encounter several theories that emphasize the importance of environmental factors. These research results underline the fact that individual qualities cannot evolve without a supportive environment, and environmental factors may mobilize and even develop personal creative skills. This paper provides a survey of the international professional literature of the new, environmental approach to enhancing creativity, with a special emphasis on previous organizational psychological findings and their adaptability in a school context. The concept of ‘creative climate’ is also introduced: its theoretical background, an overview of measurement techniques and its relationship with classroom motivation is presented. Finally some future research questions and educational practical issues are addressed.

In the present psychology-informed literature review we address some aspects of the nature of creativity from cognitive and confluence perspectives. The authors begin by discussing models of creativity offered by cognitive and confluence approaches, focusing on the transition from univariate to multivariate models. The article explores what these literatures suggest about factors that can influence creativity, including cognitive conative and environmental ones. The article goes on to present the overlaps and distinctiveness between creativity and innovation and the vexed question of the evaluation of creativity exploring two contrasting stances of psychometric and componential approaches. The review concludes by acknowledging the complexity of the phenomenon of creativity explored here mainly through cognitive and confluence lenses touching on psychometric and social-personality approaches, and recognizes the potential of other lenses in psychology such as psychodynamic, humanistic and evolutionary, for understanding creativity.

By the end of the 19th century, Émile Jaques-Dalcroze developed an educational approach that aimed to help the students of the Conservatory of Music in Geneva, Switzerland, to overcome the technical and musical challenges they faced in their professional training. The areas of opportunity that Jaques-Dalcroze observed in his disciples more than 100 years ago, are the same much students have today in many music schools. Unfortunately, in spite of the success achieved, the Jaques-Dalcroze approach has almost been completely dismissed in the training of professional musicians. In the present article, the author reflects on the validity of this music education approach, provides a review concerning its enormous contributions to the field of professional musicians´ training and offers some recommendations for its application in tertiary music schools. Finally, the author urges authorities and teachers of conservatories and music departments to consider its incorporation in the curricula as a pedagogical resource of great value.

1988 is the year of the premiere of the play Une visite inopportune (An Untimely Visit), perhaps the most autobiographical piece by the Paris-based Argentine writer, performer, and cartoonist Copi, diagnosed HIV positive in 1984. The play takes place entirely in a hospital room, which brings together the different actors involved in a prototypical scene of the fatal advance of the disease in the mid-eighties: the patient, the nurse, the doctor, friends, but also a journalist –who might incarnate the role played by the media in the AIDS crisis– and death as an untimely visitor. Drawing from Douglas Crimp's ideas on the importance of politically contesting the meanings associated with AIDS, this essay aims to explore the intervention of an absurd, humorous, and hallucinated work amidst the affects and representations that prevailed at that time in relation to the disease, both at a global scale and, more specifically, in its more immediate French context. The concept of profanation, as it is understood by the Italian philosopher Giorgio Agamben, allows us to capture the way in which Copi recovers a subject that, by then, had been –and continued to be– strongly dominated by the authoritative discourses of medicine, religion and the mass media.

In narratives about AIDS, the important voice is not women´s. Here I am interested in reading those voices in the echoes of their forces. This writing focuses on the aesthetic proposal of the artist Liliana Maresca (1951-1994) and read it in relation to those other women (the writer, Marta Dillon and the protographer, Gabriela Liffschitz -1963-2003-). In this essay, I am interested in analyzing how they construct ways of experiencing the body and disease and how they activate new forms of survival.

The article proposes an analysis of the photographs that were included in the news related to HIV / AIDS between 1985-1990 in the newspaper La Nación. A contextualization about the emergence of HIV / AIDS worldwide and in Costa Rica is made. The theoretical perspective of Barthes about photographic analysis is used, and three categories are established to address the material: AIDS as a natural disaster and a military vanguard, the representation of medical knowledge, and the politics of shame. Among the main results we can find the problematization of the link between photography and text to produce specific connotations; the masculine protagonism within the medical knowledge, and a transformation of the aesthetics of homosexuality, shifting from an exoticism to a concealment by shame. As a conclusion, insult and shame, and their relationship with visual representations, are fundamental axes that allow us to address the issue of HIV / AIDS.
