This paper examines the aesthetic and political mechanisms of one of the first artistic groups that politicized the HIV/ AIDS crisis in Latin America: Las Yeguas del Apocalipsis, formed in 1987 by Pedro Lemebel and Francisco Casas. I will focus on the way in which their interventions dialogue with cultural activism, a term raised by Douglas Crimp in order to end the epidemic. Based on some of the most significant works of the colllective, this paper explores the way in which activism assumes a radical form thorugh corporality, which likewise raises a debate about health, diversity, and a vindication of marginal subjects. Through the particular use of performance this politicization puts in check the way in which sexuality is spoken in public, and at the same time, integrates a sharp reflection on dictatorship, post-dictatorship, neoliberalism, and the control of these forces over non-heteronormative bodies.

This article analyzes images from two historical moments of HIV/AIDS in Chile. The first of these, dates back to the 1980s, and includes press images and the works of Juan Dávila and the Yeguas del Apocalipsis. The second register explored belongs to bareback sex communities in Chile and its social networks. The analysis uses the ideas of community/immunity, especially by Roberto Esposito, to observe some notions of community limits. It is established that, considering significant differences about the purposes of the images, they show the changes in the culture on HIV / AIDS in Chile, and the passage from a culture of the immune based on fear, to another, in which there are groups that promote practices of community “contagion”.

An analysis of retroviral images in Puerto Rican lyric, photography and painting. This article argues how literature and visual arts serve as weapons against a society that has tried to silence the impact of the HIV and AIDS pandemic.

During the nineties, two theoretical positions constructed a series of relations between the artist Marcel Duchamp’s and the philosopher Immanuel Kant’ works. In this paper, those positions are questioned to formulate a case in which a third scheme can be traced, making visible a political condition that connects them. The political condition stems from the philosophical work of Hannah Arendt, who interpreted it as a “silent sense” in Kant’s work. Since Arendt did not make any reference to the French artist, the responsibility is assumed in this writing, which takes into consideration sources that enable the political power in Marcel Duchamp’s work. Political power that can be related to the “silent sense” that Arendt postulates in Kant’s.

El presente artículo es resultado de una revisión bibliográfica en torno al modo en que se configuró la relación entre educación y ambiente en la Educación Superior Universitaria, de América Latina. Se estableció como propósito reconstruir el itinerario histórico a partir de las producciones académicas provenientes de la perspectiva crítica del pensamiento ambiental. Se hizo foco en dos de sus principales preocupaciones: la interpelación sobre el modelo de desarrollo dependiente y el rol de la educación superior en el modo de producir y reproducir conocimiento. Entre los objetivos específicos el artículo se propuso identificar las etapas de la relación entre educación y ambiente en el ámbito universitario y reflexionar sobre las acciones de ambientalización curricular que se promueven en el citado nivel. El corpus bibliográfico analizado permitió, entre sus principales resultados, periodizar las dos grandes etapas en la mencionada relación y corroborar la histórica tendencia en el campo: la escasa presencia de equipos interdisciplinares en la conformación de los cuerpos docente. Las producciones académicas más recientes muestran que la inicial terquedad de las ciencias sociales para ambientalizarse retrocede producto de la relevante producción de estudios de caso sobre conflictos sociales. En América Latina, el análisis de la apropiación desigual de los bienes comunes provocó la emergencia creciente de la dimensión ambiental en este campo de las ciencias. El artículo concluye con algunas recomendaciones y una batería de preguntas que apuntan a profundizar sobre el estado de situación en el citado campo de estudio.
