Resumen
This essay focuses on how, in Zora Neale Hurston’s novel Their Eyes Were Watching God (1937), African American women get noticed through the use of gaze and visual experience. The marginalization African American women have experienced over the years makes them produce an alternative communication system based on sight and visual understanding. That is, the visual takes over the impossibility of black women to express themselves verbally: instead of voice there is sight.

Resumen
In this article, we address various routes of grammaticalization in a language of the Mataguayan family, Maká. From the data collected in the field and through the method of historical reconstruction, we propose four instances of morphemes with grammatical functions that come either from nominal lexemes, as is the case of the word 'son' that becomes a diminutive and affective suffix or the one of the word it'ij 'to say' that forms an analytical causative construction; either of grammatical morphemes that become more grammatical, as is the case of the desiderative suffix that takes aspectual value or of the applicatives that seem to come from constructions of serial verbs. We start from the premise that it is possible to analyze various instances of grammaticalization even in languages with scarce historical record since the multifunctionality of the morphemes of the language is constituted as a synchronic indication of the diachronic changes of the language.

Resumen
The violent turns out to be a breaker of social laws and established orders, in addition to trying to determine himself as a protagonist and a hero with that rebellion. These approaches, although erroneous, are due to the fact that the training obtained by this individual is somewhat impoverishing: he has low tolerance to frustration and inadequate expressions of anger, he has a certain lack or a deficient social support network; and, worse still, when he conceives himself as the victor, he can put his mastery to the test by punishing the conquered, until he even reaches his annihilation (a very important feature to explain the death of the Slave). Through the protagonist triad (the Jaguar, the Poet and the Slave), the characters go through a series of ontological transformations that allow to see the attitudes and behaviors conditioned by the factor of violence. For this, the semiotics used by Landowski, Desiderio Blanco and Fontanille will be used.
