This study presents a comparative analysis of the main phonetic and phonological adjustments of the phoneme /s/, in ten Costarican children ages 2 to 4, during individual interviews of spontaneous speech. The results show that the group of younger children makes some characteristic adjustments of children’s speech (like the oclusivization of /s/) more frequently. On the other hand, some allophones of /s/, which are more common on adult speech, are more frequent in the group of older students. However, not only did the adjustments have a phonologic or age motivation, but also they depend on individual factors. Some of these factors are tooth development, refinement of articulatory abilities, and the process of acquisition of the standard Costarican Spanish phonological model.

In this article, we study a minor lexicographic genre that has received little attention so far: the hidden glossaries in Costa Rican literary texts. From a wide corpus of glossaries, covering more than a century of Costa Rican literary history, a catalog is proposed that includes its typology, location and description. In addition, the glossaries typed were included in a Solr search engine, which allows for an agile and exhaustive consultation.

In the migration context, individuals seem to suffer a loss in their mother tongues and this asseveration is based on the nonuse of the language, that is, the less use, the more difficulty to retrieve words (Paradis, 2007). In an attempt to elucidate a possible relationship between the vocabulary and the use of language, a group of twenty Romanians living in Madrid was interviewed with the objective of knowing their opinion about their possible loss as well as carrying out a linguistic task (Verbal Fluency Task). Being that vocabulary is the most vulnerable area in attrition, the possible relationship between vocabulary and attrition will be also examined.

Data comparison presented in this article is demarcated within a research project on acquisition of “referent” mechanisms in SSL in the three levels of proficiency according to ACTFL (2001). Those referential forms are: a common noun with indefinite determinant, a proper noun, a third-person singular noun and their corresponding possessive determinants and an anaphora zero. The results from non-native samples are compared with those obtained by analyzing a corpus of native speakers of Spanish.

Every grammatical category is expressed by means of linguistic forms that contract binary relationships between themselves. Since they relate to the same phenomenon, the description of each pair of elements should not be the starting point of the research, for it firstly requires signalling a basic cognitive process that leads the speaker into the choice of one of the members of the opposition. It is only by adopting such a principle that we can reckon the importance of deductive parameters in the meaning of those forms. The current paper deals with doublets from the verbal, nominal and adjectival domains and it supposes a briefly reflection on the repercussions of these on tense, aspect, modality, as well as on entities linked to states and events.

This investigation analyzes differences in sex, regarding to the written lexical availability in non-native speakers of Spanish as second language who are in an initial period of immersion in Santiago, Chile. This study is based on 34 written texts (17 of men and 17 of women), and identifies the common written available lexicon between both sexes to facilitates and guide the acquisition in SSL classes in every level. With this study, we attempt to prove two hypotheses: on one hand, that there are differences in the written available lexicon between men and women who study SSL, and on the other hand, that a common lexicon can be determined between sexes at the beginning of the immersion process in Santiago, Chile. The data analysis allows to conclude that while women show greater lexical availability, men register a minor one, and tend to repeat the available words they use. Likewise, we checked that is feasible to determine a common lexicon between both sexes.

The paper explores the use of the image in the chronicle of Carlos Monsiváis, particularly in Los rituales del caos (1995), where the city is the protagonist. In its proposal, chronic is insufficient and uses the images compilation that document its themes and ideas, in order to strengthen their criticism of social reality. The chronicler makes not only a writing exercise but also makes a discourse that is based on the context. The images gives us a closer view of what was stated in the chronicles, show us the cultural diversity and the changes that have been developed in the Mexican society; a reflection of the contradictions of modernity. Key Words: Carlos Monsiváis, chronic, city, images, modern, Mexico city.

In the present essay we analyzed the mimetic logical in the dramaturgy by César Vallejo. It is an approach to the most emblematic of his theater play: Colacho Hermanos. Structurally, first the dramatis personae of this piece is approached and the features of the two main characters of it are pointed out: the brothers Mordel y Acidal. Then, we work on the senses that acquire the mimesis, mythical and colonial, in which the characters are involved. Finally, already it located in the colonial mimetic logic of power, the idea is analyzed with which Vallejos ́s play ends: farce finishes. Colonial mimesis, which from the Vallejo perspective characterized the Latin American political class servile to the empire. Key Words: Vallejo, Colacho Hermanos, mimesis, coloniality, myths.
