This paper analytically exposes the inconsistencies that arise in Thomas Hobbes’ philosophy, in relation to the concept of God, since the English philosopher conceives it within his materialistic-mechanistic statements. These inconsistencies are grouped into three specific points of his philosophy: the properly materialistic aspect, the mechanistic, finally, nominalism. At each point, it is explained in what way the concept of God implies or generates an inconsistency. Before doing the above, it is explained what Hobbes conceives as "God", as well as the argument to indicate its existence. Key Words: God, Hobbes, materialism, mechanicism, nominalism, inconsistencies.

The next pages are about some problems that result from the use of the double etymological words in Spanish. We mean that, because of this, there is a social differentiation between speakers of the Spanish language. Then, it´s necessary to point up some conceptual items that make comprehensive the contextual, historical and lexicogenic interpretation of the double etymological Spanish words: metaphor, vagueness, prototypes, word resemblance, categorization, etc. These items can support the importance of the ideas in a correct practical network within a conceptual network. Key Words: vagueness, prototype, categorization, metaphor, lexicogenesis.

Thought and emotions have been conventionally considered to be areas apart. In the West this point of view has been endorsed by a millennial religious and philosophical tradition. The author of this paper claims that separation between thought and emotions is not as deep as is often assumed, especially as far as the experience of value is concerned, which is usually ascribed to thought, since it reveals our emotional constitution. In fact, as the author points out, many expressions of the ordinary language show a double meaning: they sometimes denote facts, sometimes denote values. Thought, therefore, fluctuates between declarative statements and evaluative judgements.

The Iliad and the Mahābhārata are both epic texts. Besides the war theme and the presence of a heroic ideal, a series of parallelisms can be traced between them, regarding both the main characters and the plot. The paper proposes, on the basis of Pannikar’s cross-cultural theory, that these texts present meaningful coincidences which, regardless of them being the result of an actual cultural encounter, allow a better understanding of each work within its own literary tradition. Key Words: Iliad, Mahābhārata, epic literature, comparative literature, cross-cultural theory.

The first electronic dictionary published in Costa Rica was the Spanish-Esperanto / Esperanto-Spanish Glossary, which consisted of about 500 entries in each way. It was uploaded to the Cariari server of the University of Costa Rica, around September 1997. Its history and update are presented in this article. The original version lacked, among other things, grammatical marks and diacritical accents. This was corrected for this academic proposal, renamed “Spanish-Esperanto / Esperanto-Spanish Elemental Dictionary”.

The analysis of definitional contexts allows to classify and systematize the definitional information belonging to a specific domain, and then to identify standards for the forms in which words and terms are defined in this domain. This paper describes the process implemented to automate the analysis of definitional contexts in the gastronomy domain in Costa Rica. The automation was done by using computational tools for natural language processing. The automation enables analysis of large quantities of data and results in less time than required by manual analysis. Automation consists of two modules, the first one is for the classification of documents in texts with or without recipes and the second one is for the identification of recipe ingredients based on formal linguistic patterns. Key Words: linguistic analysis of recipes, analysis of definitional contexts, definitional patterns, definitional markers, natural language processing.

This is an article about the literary topic called sagitta amoris, which consists of an analysis of the metaphorical construction of the process of making of the topic and the peculiarity that the Roman elegiac poet Propertius brings to the same one. The metaphor, like figure of speech, moves the sense of the primitive term and creates the new one. From this metaphorical aspect, the analysis is faced in detailing which is the main contribution of the poet to the topic of the “bowshot of love”, already established from the archaic Greek poetry.

The objective of this paper is to focus on the presence of the symbolic violence hidden in the sacrificial ritual, in the myth of the tragedy Iphigenia at Aulis from Euripides. Human sacrifice is not an historical fact in Ancient Greece. Nevertheless, ritual sacrifice does appear as a motif in myth and literature. The analysis of the ritual immolation has a feminist literary critique approach, toward the presence of violence against women represented in the characters of the play, according to the individual and social dynamics of family and generational relations.
