Given their significant regional economic benefits, science and technology parks (STPs) have attracted continuous academic attention. To understand the predictors of performance of STPs, this study focuses on the critical impacts of leaders and develops a leadership competency model specialized for public STP leaders. The competency model identifies the qualities and conditions of an effective leader of public STPs, emphasizing management skills, bottom-up approach, and boundary spanning skills. To provide empirical support, this study adopts the case study approach and performs a behavior event interview with one of the most successful leaders of public STPs in Korea.

This paper discusses the role of team collaboration as a building block for cultivating capabilities in technology-based startups. This conceptual framework draws on a literature review of innovation and entrepreneurship research to understand the intra-organization collaboration mechanisms among team members in technology-based startups. Introducing the concept of team collaboration capabilities represents a new approach to understanding the interaction conditions that give rise to new capabilities from a venture team as its organizational base. Rapid new capability building represents a competitive advantage in environments characterized by innovative technological change, known as dynamic capabilities.

In this work, the dynamics and toxicity of Microcystis spp. in Salto Grande reservoir (Uruguay river), as well as the genetic diversity of their toxic populations were assessed in winter and summer during 2013. Cell abundance of Microcystis spp. variated amongst different sites and between seasons, showing a signifcantly higher cell and toxic genotype abundances (copies of mcyE gene) and microcystin-LR concentration during summer. Furthermore, when genetic diversity of toxic Microcystis was analyzed by high resolution melting analysis of mcyJ amplicons, two genotypes exhibiting different environmental preferences were detected (cluster 1 and 2). Cluster 1 included samples found at water conditions of low temperature (lower than 17,6 °C) and slightly high conductivity (~52 to 58 µS cm-1), showing small Microcystis abundance and absence of microcystin-LR, whereas cluster 2 comprised samples from higher temperatures (between 17,6 and 25,9 °C) and lower conductivity (~50 to 52 µS cm-1) conditions, and with a higher cell abundance and microcystin-LR production. Our results suggest that toxic Microcystis spp. populations that bloom during summer are different from those that persist during winter and pointed to water temperature and conductivity as relevant variables that control their abundance and toxicity.

Te aim of the work was to reduce the presence of the potentially atherogenic fatty acids (FA) of milk (C12: 0,C14: 0 and C16: 0) and increase the presence of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) in confned dairy cows fed a total mixed ration (TMR) supplemented with polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA). Two batches of 70 multiparous cows in the frst third of lactation were used. Afer six experimental weeks and for fve consecutive days, milk samples (5) were obtained from the collector tank of non-supplemented cows (LE) and of CLA milk (LCLA) from the tank of PUFA supplemented cows. Fat content (g/100g) in LE (3,84) was higher (p<0,001) than LCLA (2.84) explained by a signifcant reduction (17,21%) in the concentration of the potentially atherogenic FA of milk. The milk atherogenic index was higher (p<0,001) in LE (4,07) compared to LCLA (2.58). Milk CLA content increased (p<0,001) by 122% in LCLA (0,77 g/100 g FA) compared to LE (0,34 g/100 g FA). Oleic acid concentration (g/100 g FA) resulted higher (p<0,001) in LCLA (23,37) compared to LE (18,78). Supplementation with PUFA in confned dairy cows increased the healthy value of the milk produced maintaining an adequate omega-6/omega-3 ratio (6,59) and confrmed the plasticity in milk fatty acid composition.

Polyphenols (PF) exert an important influence on human health, mainly due to their antioxidant capacity. Apples have PF mainly in their peel. Te major whey protein, beta-lactoglobulin (β-lg), can bind amphiphilic compounds, such as PF, protecting them from the action of external agents. In this work, nanocomplexes (NC) of PF extracted from red apple peel (Red Delicious), and β-lg were studied. By ultrafltration it was determined that 57% of the PF added bound to the protein. Fluorescence extinction of β-lg by PF addition performed at different temperatures confrmed the formation of a static complex. Te fluorescence extinction of β-lg with acrylamide did not vary signifcantly in the presence of PF, indicating that PF bound to a site different from the hydrophobic pocket of the protein. Particle size and ζ potential measurements of β-lg were not signifcantly modifed by the addition of PF. Tis fact pointed to a low number of PF bounded to the dimer of the protein. In conclusion, NC would allow PF vehiculization, their protection and use for enrichment functional foods.

We evaluated the residual thermal effect generated by the consecutive High Hydrostatic Pressure (HHP) cycles relative to the position (upper, central and lower) inside a high pressure vessel determining the free sulfydryl groups [F-SH] from pressurized α-amylase Aspergillus oryzae expressed in μmol SH/g protein. Tis methodology could represent a potential indicator of HHP treatment, allowing to measure in an indirect way the thermal effect during the process. Assays were carried out using a 2L stabilized lab scale equipment, where pressurizing medium (water-propilenglycol:70-30%) was injected at room temperature from the bottom of the vessel. For each cycle, the fluid at room temperature was compressed until reaching the desired pressure (605 MPa), maintained for fve minutes, followed by depressurization. Te cycle was repeated three consecutive times. The free sulfydryl content was assayed statistically using one-way ANOVA (α=0,05) for a factorial design of two factors: positions and consecutive cycles, with three levels, and four repetitions for the complete design. Signifcant differences were obtained in the interaction cycles* position (pvalue = 0,001) and cycles (pvalue = 0,021). These results demonstrate the effect of the heat generation during adiabatic compression, affecting the thermal history of the α-amylase. Due to its sensitivity to pressure, this enzyme could be considered as a potential indicator of high pressure processing in the future, evaluating the difference between processed samples during cycles, and confrming the thermal profle generated within the equipment.

The objective of this work was to revalue the waste generated by the brewing industry as a new ingredient rich in fibre and proteins for the development of bread. The effect of nutritional warnings used as front of pack nutritional information on the acceptability and purchase intention of the developed products were evaluated considering the claim “fibre source” and sodium warning. Breads were made with BSG (Brewer’s spent grain), complying the claim “source of fibre”, bread enriched with fbre and bread without incorporation of BSG. Acceptability test among them showed that bread “source of fibre” presented a value signifcantly lower than the bread without incorporation of BSG and bread enriched with fibre, which did not present signifcant differences between them. In the case of acceptability and purchase intention evaluation considering nutritional information, it was observed that the presence of warning “excess salt” represented on the packaging decreases the intention of consumers to buy that kind of product, while the presence of the claim “fibre source” would increase it. It is an opportunity for the industry, who should focus efforts towards the reformulation and/or development of acceptable products.

Trophic role including nine fish species from a coastal lagoon in Uruguay (Laguna Garzón) was assessed using carbon and nitrogen stable isotope measurements. To this end, samples of food sources and fishes were collected in May 2017 for isotopic analysis. Fishes were collected by deploying a net of 10 and 15 cm (200 m long) for 12 hs. The results indicated an isotopic variation within the fish species examined thus suggesting different trophic habits. The highest trophic positions (TP) were observed for the anchovy Lycengraulisgrossidens (TP = 3,8), the bluewing searobin Prionotus punctatus (TP = 3,4), the whitemouth croaker Micropogonias furnieri (3,4), and dog-tooth characid Oligosarcus jenynsii (TP = 3,0). Model calculations showed that the main prey for the fish species in Garzón derived from benthic (e.g. M. furnieri, Mugil liza) and pelagic environment (Odontesthes argentinensis). Therefore, benthic fauna together with sedimentary carbon sources support this fish assemblage in Laguna Garzón.
