The paper denounces Europe's war against refugees and migrants. It suggests that women could strategically find their best allies in these groups. Both women and refugees/migrants are "missing citizens" of sorts, and share the interest of deconstructing the curent neoliberal and masculinist hegemony. Regarding the latter, some abdicating of the subject's and the ego's firm entrenchment in their exclusive interests would help. It requires a political as well as cultural disposition that may take time to build, but the obvious advantages of which are already visible and widely shared.

The poetry of Olvido García Valdés has been studied in opposition to patriarchal discourse. Indeed, the poet says that she writes "radically in feminine". The grammar of gender supposes, in this sense, a privileged locus of emission of the poetic speech. However, the affective dialogue with nature, a crucial element in the Valdesian poetics of strangeness, destabilizes sexual integrity in the poetic subjectivity. This argument is grounded in a methodology that juxtaposes the transformational power of emotional/affective energy accumulated in the poem, with the spatial form of a queer ecology that manifests the existential continuity between the self and a gender neutral other. In the poetry of García Valdés, the representation of the affective dynamism of the body in language exceeds the grammatical constitution of its own limits, a textual excess that results in questioning the discursive coherence of the sexual experience in the poem.

The aim of this article is to focus on one of the most common Moroccan female characters in twentieth-century Spanish narrative, a character influenced by the mythical Scheherazade. The article analyzes the archetype in sixty-two literary sources —novels and short stories— written by women. The analysis takes a necessary gender perspective, and is grounded on the theoretical principles of postcolonial criticism and cultural studies.

This article examines the valuable contribution that Katherine Bradley and her niece Edith Cooper made to the vast tradition of queer Sapphism in Long Ago (1889), their first volume of poetry published under the collaborative pseudonym of Michael Field. Taking as my starting point the well-established assumption among contemporary critics that this volume represents an original instance of lesbian writing, I seek to argue that Long Ago not only appropriates and celebrates the figure of Sappho as a lesbian archetype, it also proposes a subversive gender theory that conceptualises the feminine as the essential principle of vitalism, the masculine as the very representation of death, and homoeroticism as the most genuine form of love.

This article analyses the ideas that emerge from the term "women's writing" that circulates in cultural magazines in the sixties in Argentina. More specifically, it analyses Liliana Heker's texts published in El escarabajo de oro. It then asks what ideas about sexual difference can be read and what aesthetic and ideological disputes are at play in questioning this notion. The analysis is based on the hypothesis that conservative ideas predominate with respect to sexual difference, although some fissures are glimpsed. The article also focuses on the discomfort that this question generates, the foundations that are used, how Virginia Woolf and Simone de Beauvoir are read, the prejudices against feminism and, finally, it proposes the figure of Silvina Bullrich as the counterexample of the woman writer of the time.

Seyla Benhabib's idiosyncratic approach provides an original framework for a complex characterization of the paradoxes of contemporary Europe, and the dialectic between identity and citizenship within. This essay analyses Benhabib's approach through three main elements: the lessons of the totalitarian moment, the relationship between Europe and its "others" in recent history, and the potential of certain cosmopolitan elements catalyzed by the EU project. This type of analysis makes explicit a look "from the margins", which marks Benhabib's particular contribution to the critical theory of democracy and to its dialogue with Enlightenment universalism.

As the visibility of the LGTBIQ community continues to slowly but inexorably grow, an article in 2017 offered an interesting picture of the trans and bi theatre scene in the city of Madrid since 2000. This article offers a re-examination of that picture by analysing the plays through the perspective of gender and queer studies.
