Resumen
The bibliometric studies applied to the scientific production of universities can provide valuable information for the decision-making process related to research planning and evaluation. The objective of this paper is to represent and to analyze the research profile of the Industrial Engineering School of the Polytechnic University of Havana José Antonio Echeverría (Cujae) in Cuba, by means of a bibliometric study applied to its scientific production indexed in the databases Scopus and Web of Science during the period 2003-2012. There were evaluated internationally validated indicators for the quantitative and qualitative dimension of the production, as well as indicators for the scientific collaboration, which allowed the determination of the visibility and impact of these publications at international level. By means of the comparison of the results, it was possible the assessment of the contribution of the School to the position of Cujae in the several editions of the SIR Latin American ranking. It was concluded that, even though there has been a positive tendency in the number of articles in the last years, the percentage of papers in international collaboration is low and the average of cites per paper is below the tendency described in the literature.

Resumen
Science, Technology and Society (STS) field shows a clear consolidation, manifested in the existence of journals, conferences, a common language and the possibility of identifying a set of actors belonging to him. However, the demarcation of the field is not easy. Therefore, the aim of this study is to present a new methodology to identify and analyze the STS publications in the world and particularly in Latin America. Using the Web of Science database, 47,349 documents (4.6% from Latin America) where recovered and the main bibliometric indicators of activity and specialization were obtained. To study the thematic and the intertextual relationships of publications, bibliographic coupling techniques — to identify “Bibliographical clusters”— were used. Through this approach we try to know the thematic structure of STS research and analyze their dynamics over time.

Resumen
This study assesses possible advantages of open access can bring to the area of Information Science, using bibliometric citation indicators and Altmetric scores to analyze sixteen hybrid scientific journals, filtered by respective Impact Factors and included in the Journal Citation Reports. Data collection was performed using Web of Science, Google Scholar, Altmetric.com and Mendeley. The verification was performed in two periods in order to examine whether open access exerted influence over time. Results indicate that open access boost the number of citations and mentions in social media for the sample of papers drawn from journals under study. Moreover, this boost is greater when authors upon publishing pay the processing charge to guarantee the immediate open access availability of the paper. In conclusion, while open access can boost the number of citations of a paper, the quality of the paper itself drives most citations.

This research consists of a review of issues considered most important in the development and evolution of the information display in the representation of scientific domains. It aims to distinguish the most appropriate techniques to display domains, but in this case, no Scientific Information (articles) but of Information Technology (patents). This research compiledtheories, trends and relevant contributions on information visualization, especially concerning bibliometric analysis and display some significant insights into the main visualization techniques used for analysis, mainly technological and scientific domains. This allows conclusions to attend the selection of the most appropriate techniques to display the technological production of different domains, taking as an added value an inventory of the main display most relevant domains in the field of information science and technology trends.

Resumen
This study examines antecedent factors that may influence the intention to use the virtual library of college students enrolled in classroom and distance-learning courses. The study focuses on the Technology Acceptance Model – TAM (Davis, 1986) and the construct called Teaching Stimulus in order to expand knowledge of the impact of teaching on students’ use of technological educational tools. Data were collected using 406 questionnaires answered by Brazilian undergraduate students. Findings demonstrate that Teaching Stimulus positively impacts ease of use, perceived usefulness and habits of students regarding their intention to use the Virtual Library. As such, this research emphasizes the importance of guidance and recommendations for expanding the use of technological educational resources by students. Moreover, the study concludes that perceived usefulness is the most important factor influencing the intention to use these technologies. Results show that students enrolled in distance-learning courses are more inclined to use these educational resources than students enrolled in classroom courses.

Resumen
In the context of project led by Paul Otlet and Henri La Fontaine for the creation of the Universal Bibliographic Repertory, individuals and institutions were invited to spread the ideals of the Belgian duo around the world. One such person is Argentine engineer and librarian Federico Birabén, who was responsible for the installation of bibliographical offices in Argentina, Chile and Peru in compliance with the proposals of the International Institute of Bibliography. Birabén proposed the creation of the Brazilian Bibliographic Office in 1910. This paper examines his background and his proposal. To this end, archival documents and texts from the time comprise the scope of our research, which includes a literature review regarding the engineer’s actions. The article concludes that Birabén, in fact, sought to encourage the creation of a bibliographic office in Brazil in accord with the guidelines provided by the Brussels Institute and other analogous guidelines adopted in other countries. The engineer did not know; however, that construction of the Bibliography and Documentation Service of the National Library was already under way, which resulted in this project being shelved as the Library Director Manoel Cicero Peregrino da Silva´s project stepped to the fore.

Resumen
This article aims to contextualize what postmodernity holds for society in terms of information and marketing planning. The information, which plays an essential role in development of marketing strategies, changes hand in hand with the environment. As such, if the environment is postmodern, the information will exhibit postmodern features as well. The way marketing works, including strategic planning, must be upgraded in order to operate in this current scenario. In an environment where time and space mean the here and now, we may well ask if planning is even possible. Technological changes have served to telescope both time and space, and this exerts impacts on how marketing exploits information. This paper therefore examines some of the features of this postmodern environment, contextualizing their impact on both marketing and information usage, concluding by offering perspectives on how to conceive of strategic planning of marketing and the use of information in this new context, which does not ignore uncertainty as a major feature of postmodernity.

Resumen
The aim of the study is to measure the adoption, by Portuguese municipalities, of 2.0 technologies as part of their digital communication strategy. Therefore, and after making a content analysis of the 308 websites of the country, a Social Web Indicator (SWI) was created which, in addition to offering a vision of its whole, allowed us to identify those elements, whether demographical, economical, geographical, technological or political, affect to a greater extent this adoption. The results indicate that social networks, especially Facebook, are the most widespread element; and thatthe key factors to implement the 2.0 tools, significantly relate to the parameters of technological development of the locality, as well as its budget and population. These factors point to the coast and, more specifically, to the Metropolitan Area of Lisbon as the geographical sector more highlighted, with regard to the use of Collaborative Web in its e-Government. At an ideological level, however, there are no differences amongmunicipalities ruled by left or right parties in considering the examined functionalities.

Resumen
The paper aims to analyze the results of works published between 1996 and 2015 on project management in Library and Information Science. Analysis of this management technique examines information provided by the database LISTA (Library, Information Science & Technology Abstracts). In this initial approach to the subject, the analysis focuses on the following indicators: production trends, authorship of the work-source (collaboration, productivity and gender), typology of documents, language, and production per publication, as well as institutional and geographical origin of authors.
