Resumen
The descendants of the conquerors and first settlers of New Spain, who had been politically irrelevant individuals in the ‘Indian benemeritos’ class since the mid 16th century, pursued royal grace in reward of their ancestors’ services. In order to alleviate their situation, which might have placed social peace in the kingdom or eventhe rulers’ authority in danger, the viceroys of New Spain instituted some palliative measures. This work relies on various sources, butparticularly on letters and memories of New Spain’s viceroys.

Resumen
This article attempts to show, after the example of a plan proposed to viceroy Pedro Garibay to rescue Spanish king Fernando VII from his captivity in Valencay, how public support for the “Desired” king increased in New Spain shortly after the arrival of the news of his prison at the hands of the French. Part of these feelings was motivated by the belief, largely taken from Spanish peninsular press and pamphlets and official propaganda, that the king had been the victim of treason and betrayal. This in turn would result in different discourses in favor and against the king.

Resumen
The encomienda in Yucatan survived almost until 1821. Since the 17th century the institution fell into a critical state due to the decrease of its associated rents, yet it continued to be sought after by the elites as one of the few recognizable signs of “nobi-lity” in this peripheral zone of Spanish America. Literature about the role of the encomienda during its last years (from 1770) is scarce. This article attempts to fill the gap by an emphasis on the careers of different encomenderos and the arguments put forwardby them to continue enjoying their status during this late period.

Resumen
We present here a succinct reflection and a preliminary consideration on a poorly-researched and misunderstood historical eventoc curred at Mexico City in 1562: the proposal of unify all urban political corporations in one cabildo at likeness the twenty-fourinter-ethnic regiments present in the Spanish city council of Granada. We focus on institutional and governmental conflicts andoverlaps, and we also reflect on Spanish authorities who could have been the architects of this new political design. We briefly discussthe reasons why this Granada-shaped cabildo couldn’t finally have flourished in Mexico City.

This article puts forward an analysis of the political thought of the members of Mexico City’s local government through a petition of removal of the corregidor position in the 1570s. The analysis of the thought Constitutionalism problem represented by the introduction of this royal officer to the city council and the arguments used to demand its removal show how the regidores of México recovered constitutional principles tode fine the limits of royal power and defend their interests against the king.
