Resumen
This article examines the reforms of the marquis of la Ensenada concerning the administration of the royal finances in the three viceroy alties of Spanish America, and how they fit in a broad vision of the Hispanic finances. I explore the ways in which the personal ties between the minister and the viceroys helped formulate a coherent project but also altered the initial scheme. Analysis of the concept of “vía reservada” and its meaning, for those involvedin the discussions, suggests that we need to revise the reasons behind the rejection of “intendencias”.

Resumen
In this article we examine how the participation of women appearsin various documents dealing with the reform of the confraternities from the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The constitutions of the confraternities, both of New Spain and the kingdom of Seville, show that there was a wide range of possibilities in this regard, since their exclusion to their exclusive participation, including also limits in the assumption of the charges and specific admission requirements. Without ever clarifying the ambiguities, reformers tended to confirm women’s limited participation on the grounds of decency and protection of worship, however making them subject to confraternal charity. Nonetheless, the example of the slaves of Our Lady of Sorrows of Carmona shows that they could take advantage of there form to settle local disputes with fraternities of male members.

The document corresponds to a relación de méritos y servicios of Carlos de Siguenza, delivered in Madrid in early 1694 and today guarded in the AGI in Seville. The reclación provides valuable information on the ties that bound the scholar and his patron, the Viceroy Gaspar de la Cerda, Count de Galve. It also allows approach the strategy developed by Siguenza y Gongora to get any mercy from the Royal State and benefit from a respectable and perennial professional position.

Resumen
This article analyzes the evolution of social historiography on thecolonial period of Mexico, taking as subject the articles published in the journal Estudios de Historia Novohispana. In its first part, it discusses the initial approaches to the matter, explaining the mannerin which scientific societies and academic institutions organized the production and dissemination of knowledge, as well as the waysof the arriving and reception of new historiographical tendencies. In the second part, it considers issues related to the concepts ofresistance, social pact, social ties, sociological history and cultural history of society, and how different authors have addressed these issues. It concludes that the articles examined, within their inevitable variety, show an eclecticism that incorporates elements, methods and perspectives of successive currents of thought.

The documents show how the creation of this journal contributed to the affirmation of the Instituto de Investigaciones Históricas of th eNational Autonomous University of Mexico during the mid 1960s. They also render a special perspective on the work methods of its first editor, Dr. Josefina Muriel.
