Resumen
This article analyses the ideas about poetry and love in two poems by Gregorio Silvestre (1520-1569): the Visita de Amor and the Residencia de Amor which were probably written about a decade apart (c. 1555-1565). In the Visita, Silvestre draws on the debate between traditional and Italianate lyric that is set out in texts such as Cristóbal de Castillejo’s Reprehensión, whereas in the Residencia, the poet employs an intertextual game with the Infierno de Amor by Garci Sánchez de Badajoz in order to criticise the kind of suffering love typically found in the most important cancioneros and defends an amatory poetic project exemplified, in particular, by the poets Jorge de Montemayor and Luis Barahona de Soto. Silvestre’s positions in the two texts not only show how his poetry evolved, but also the diversity and ambiguity that the debate between traditional and Petrarchan lyric could give rise to in a mid-sixteenth century poet.

Resumen
This work offers the study of a miscellaneous manuscript that is kept in the Royal Library of the Monastery of El Escorial, with signature h.II.21. It is a factitious volume copied in the 16th century that mainly transmits heraldic and genealogical works in prose, although it also transmits some poetic texts of considerable importance that underlie historiographic overtones. The particular process of copying this testimony will allow us to identify its antigraph, as well as to locate other handwritten sources that are part of the same textual tradition.

Resumen
This paper analyzes the first period of the scientific revolution in Spain, with Seville as the main center of the phenomenon, examining the preliminary poems written by galenist and novatores doctors. The corpus is composed of eleven medical treatises printed in Seville and other Andalusian cities between 1694 and 1700, with a total of more than forty poems included in them. Those verses will help us to obtain a global idea of the literary mechanisms used to translate the names and main sides of the controversy into the fictional world.

Resumen
The existence of supernatural creatures was a central feature form the 15th century onwards in a variety of narratives apparently diverse. On one hand, the literature of prodigies and mirabilia constituted as a genre had influence in other literary productions. On the other hand, by the end of the 15th century the so-called demonological treatises that examined the supernatural matters critically increased in number and diffusion. In the present contribution, we analyze how the digressions on giants occupied the narratives in the literature of prodigies as well as in the anti-superstitious treatises. We also examine the impact of aspects such as theology, folklore, archeology and literature in the reception and creation of narratives about giants.

Resumen
In 1575 the Navarrese physician Juan Huarte de San Juan demonstrated, in his Examen de ingenios para las ciencias, that Jews were the most apt for the practice of medicine and the «stain» they carried in their blood was not indelible, contradicting the central postulate of the theories on the purity of blood. This contribution proposes a re-reading of the chapter dedicated to the Jews in Huarte de San Juan’s work, reframing it in the period of the birth of biopolitics in Spain and highlighting the discursive strategy employed by the author to achieve his aim.

Resumen
This article analyzes the television episode La Lozana andaluza, it is included in the series Las pícaras (1983). It compares the novel by Francisco Delicado (1530) with the telefilm by Chumy Chúmez (scriptwriter and director), explaining the aesthetic results of the transfer in relation to the cinematographic context of the destape and the main narrative solutions. Likewise, it is shown that, despite the erotic charge of the adaptation by Chumy Chúmez, the realism of the «retrato» is avoided and its meaning is accommodated to the happy end of erotic comedy.

Resumen
Love in the Modern Age was used to generate a higher level of political unity in the Hispanic Monarchy. However, in the Hispanic Baroque it is understood from a religious and vital perspective that love could generate a spiritual and moral uniformity. This uniformity of love was linked to political organization through justice, which was understood as fundamental to achieve the common good.

Resumen
The main goal of the paper is to present the fundamental features of the Brief History of the Order of Our Lady, an almost unknown work of ecclesiastical historiography published in Valencia in 1591. Written by the Mercedarian friar Felipe de Guimerán, who would later become Master or the Order, the Brief History is a singular book in the context of Mercedarian and ecclesiastical historiography. In this book, the historiographical material is interspersed with numerous sections related to several 16th-century literary genres. This varietas connects the Brief History with other miscellanies from this period.

Resumen
This paper aims to analyze the main strategies of presentation of Comentarios by Álvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca, whose trace is manifested in the substantial proem of such work. On the basis of specific information, related to the payment of the printing and the material presence of this book in the library of its patron, we will attempt to reconstruct its suitability in relation to a very specific political and cultural context, that around 1555 supports its official nature and, consequently, also its publication and circulation in block letters.

Resumen
This article attemps to shed new light on research on the meaning of discourses and subjectivities when approaching the study of post-Tridentine hagiography about medieval visionary women. In order to show that the assumption of a homogeneous masculine discourse must be abandoned and attend to the idiosyncrasies of individual gazes taken into account, I delve into the Vidas that narrate the visionary experience of María de Ajofrín by Pedro de la Vega, Alonso de Villegas, Juan de the Cross and José de Sigüenza.
