Resumen
The “Orient” as a field of study arrived late to the Latin American academy in general and to Argentina in particular. During the sixties, in the context of what was categorized as a Major Project for intercultural dialogue by UNESCO, several universities in the region got involved in the institutional creation of programs on oriental studies. Thanks to the labor of Father I. Quiles, the University del Salvador in Buenos Aires created an undergraduate program in oriental studies—the only one that still remains. The present article examines the initial stage of the School of Oriental Studies and examines the way the conception of Orient was reflected in its first study programs. The analysis concludes that a fundamental and distinguishing element in Quiles’ project was the realization of interreligious dialogue as formulated by the Second Vatican Council.

Resumen
The Trump administration has been characterized by its aggressive rhetoric against North Korea. The escalation in the tone of the discourse reached a critical point with Trump’s “Fire and fury” declaration, to which Kim Jong-un answered by characterizing Trump as a “dotard”, and then testing a hydrogen bomb. The rise of tensions in the Korean peninsula is due to divergent formation of identities and perceptions among the actors involved. The main hypothesis of this article is that, because of the lack of progress in de- nuclearizing the Korean Peninsula, the Trump’s government has employed bold and aggressive rhetoric that it hopes will affect the unstable status quo in the region and lead to it meeting its goal of economic benefits from Beijing and the benefits of an improved security relation with Pyongyang.

Resumen
During the late 18th century, European Jesuits built a Labyrinth located within Western Mansions complex in the northeast of Yuanming Yuan Garden. The destination of the Labyrinth was an open air scenery designed with western illusionist techniques for the entertainment of the emperor Qianlong. This article analyses the design of the Labyrinth from a visual language point of view. Semiotic structures and tools were employed to interpret the expression of architectural forms of this art work and formulate a subsequent understanding of these forms by turning each element into a communication tool. This original Labyrinth was encoded by the pictorial architectonic hybridization developed by the Jesuit missionaries in China.

Resumen
Ferdowsi’s Shahnameh shares sources, influences and goals with contemporary works of history, but differs from them in significant ways, due, especially to the specific perspectives and semiotic strategies that he used to fulfill his unique goal of reviving Persian cultural identity in the hostile environment of the tenth century. A detailed hermeneutic comparison of the Shahnameh with the work of one of the most important Iranian historians of the 10th century, Tha’alibi, highlights the significance of these differences, underlines the specific contributions of Ferdowsi to Iran’s history, and explains the validity and power of his work.
