The aim of this paper is to examine the composition of migrant struggles that developed in Argentina during the government of the Cambiemos alliance (2015-2019). For this purpose, we will analyze the organizational trusses on which the new migrant organizations that settled and configured during this period of government, such as the Bloque de Trabajadorxs Migrantes (BTM), Ni una Migrante Menos (NUMM) and the Campañas Migrar no es Delito (CMND) in the metropolitan area of Buenos Aires and in the city of Córdoba. The methodological approach was based on a qualitative strategy that combined semi-structured interviews with representatives of migrant organizations, the analysis of a set of written and audiovisual documents, and field notes. The results show that the composition of the struggles responded to the configuration of heterogeneous trusses that were woven between the previous political trajectories both in the countries of origin and destination and simultaneous ones that the migrants maintained, as well as the connections and dialogues they established with organizations linked to the popular economy and the feminist movement.

This paper aims to contribute to denaturalizing the socio-environmental consequences of coexisting with extractive activity, based on the analysis of a case study located in Argentina Patagonia resorting to some contributions of ecofeminism. In the first place, we introduce – through a brief historical review – the territory, a neighborhood that was a former “Ypefiano” oil camp located in the western area of Comodoro Rivadavia (Chubut province). The “Asociación Vecinal”, one of its reference institutions, constitutes the gateway to our ethnographic fieldwork based on collaborative research methodologies. It is also a central institution for the sustainability of life in feminized community work. Secondly, we reconstruct how neighbors refer to the environment – even without knowing it or problematizing it – in relation to the impact on the health of the “territory-body” in their “ecobiographies”. Thirdly, recovering the notion of “socioecological imaginations”, we examine to what extent women’s territorial work constitutes both a response and an alternative to extractivism. Finally, and from the case analyzed, we consider the construction of territories of life in the midst of territories of discomfort.

In this article I address peasant women’s action in agroecological experiences that are framed, on the one hand, within “social economy projects” designed by the government, and at the same time that are part of a social movement with a trajectory of autonomous proclamations. Setting up a dialogue between different work lines and discussions, I explore the possibilities of (re) appropriation of economic projects originally designed for a population thought of homogeneously as “popular sectors”, within the framework of a specific territoriality. To this end, I use an ethnographic analysis of the Peasant Movement of Santiago del Estero (MOCASE-VC) experience, in Argentina. I argue that this organization has an extensive trajectory around agroecology as an alternative livelihood that includes cultural, political, ontological, identitary, economic and technical-productive aspects, in which peasant and popular feminism is part of its broader emancipation strategy. In this context, the state aid programs employed in recent years, having Plan Potenciar Trabaja as an emblematic example, are (re)interpreted and used creatively, within the possibilities of a geography marked by extractive capitalism imposed inequalities. In this way, moving away from the classic dichotomies of co-optation/autonomy between the state or real economic power and social movements, here I propose to expand knowledge from a situated approach that interweaves different dimensions of analysis.

This study presents the problem of the overlap between mental health and prison. Throughout time, the hospital, the asylum and the prison have been examined as disciplinary institutions in relation to the expansion of capital. The aim of this work is to analyze the commonalities between the penal system and the field of mental health, focusing on intramural pharmacologization and subjectivation processes. To this end, an analytical design within a qualitative methodological approach was applied. This work was mainly based on conducting in-depth interviews; a critical-reflexive interpretative analysis was carried out and a bibliographic analysis was performed. As a contribution to the study, firstly, we wanted to contribute to the field of mental health in general and pharmacologization in particular, as these are flourishing, open, moving and tension areas. Secondly, the interviewees were listened to in their own active voice, which differs from positioning the voices of the interviewees in ways in which they appear as silenced and passive as objects of research. One of the main findings warns that health conditions in prisons are very sensitive and have alarming characteristics due to the abandonment, helplessness and insecurity that affect the incarcerated. It is concluded that pharmacologization in prisons could be at the service of the intramural government.

The objective of this study is to reconstruct the political construction of the PRO party (2002-2015) based on the analysis of the interpretative cleavages existing in society, the sectors it tried to represent, the alliances it made and the electoral results they obtained. The methodology resorts to descriptive analysis and articulates different secondary sources to construct the specific temporalities of the party. Based on these, from there, we identify three moments that group meanings and actions: 1) construction; 2) consolidation; 3) nationalization.

We can find a series of authors who, inscribed in the Marxist tradition, make use of the concept of dialectics, but referring to it in an adjective form, glimpsing a theoretical operation with said term. Thus, Louis Althusser’s behind-the-scenes dialectics, Walter Benjamin's dialectics in suspense, and Theodor W. Adorno’s negative dialectics alike point out that these philosophers use this highly charged notion in different ways, expressive of their ideas and major theoretical motifs. In this way, in the present work, we will study how the dialectic appears conceptualized in the work of these three philosophers.

This article is a theoretical-epistemic and methodological reflection on biographical forms within the framework of a research project focused on the transit through breast cancer of women living in the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires in the second decade of the 21st century. The question of the experience of illness led us to investigate the biographical and its heuristic potential in working with narratives for socio-anthropological studies of health. In order to do so, we focused on the process of interlocution with 25 women from popular and middle class sectors, between 26 and 75 years old. We emphasize the social dimension of all subjectivity, considering the dialogical and ethical nature of working with biographical forms. We also reflect on the process of narrative configuration in the research practice. For the empirical analysis, we recover the configurative-temporal capacity and the place of biographical rupture in the illness process. At the same time, we pay attention to aspects that participate and operate in the narrative process as an attempt to give an account of oneself: the moment in which the interlocution takes place in relation to the times and therapeutic instances of the illness; the horizons of expectations; the ways of thinking about the origin and/or causes of the diagnosis; and the place of the experience as a catalyst of other biographically significant events.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the mental health of female healthcare workers was adversely affected. Understanding this situation is necessary for anticipating actions in future similar emergencies. Therefore, we interviewed 14 female nurses and doctors from three regions of Peru, analyzing, from a gender perspective, the impact on their mental health and the strategies to cope with it during the pandemic. These healthcare workers faced stressors (work environment and conditions, discrimination, domestic environment and motherhood) that had an impact on their mental health (stress and irritability, fear of infection, guilt regarding patient treatment, and unhealthy habits). In response, they had resources and opportunities, such as religious faith, family and work relationships, employment benefits, and personal time. Consequently, they developed self-care and mutual care strategies to prevent infection, seek safety, establish boundaries, engage in enjoyable activities, support and mourn with colleagues, and receive psychological support. The intertwining of personal and work-related concerns thus became evident. Also, women workers’ agencies were recognized in the use of resources, which strengthened work teams. Based on these experiences, the importance of a gender and intersectional perspective in the community framework is acknowledged for the development of public policies and institutional strategies, as well as for team relationships and the daily lives of healthcare workers.

Social networks contribute to the expansion of biographical space and the widening of the sphere of public intimacies. People who suffer from depression, a diagnosis historically carrying stigma that leads to shame and concealment of this condition, use digital technologies to share these intimate experiences with a wide audience. This article investigates the purposes of advertising or coming out of the closet of depression on social networks. The objective is to describe and analyze biographical narratives of people who suffer and/or suffered from depression and reside in Argentina. Specifically, it addresses the repertoire of motivations and interests in making public experiences considered intimate by media figures, YouTubers and people without a public profile in YouTube videos. Using the biographical method in its life story aspect, a corpus of 37 audiovisual videos available on YouTube from 2018 to 2024 is analyzed. Based on these biographical documents, categories are constructed that distinguish a plurality of motivations and interests associated with publishing personal experiences of depression. Within this multiplicity of forms, which are complementary, we identify an arc that ranges from the transformation of the subject themself, through helping and advising other people, to ways of communitizing suffering. This article seeks to make a sociological contribution to the study of the transformations of public intimacies, with special emphasis on the contemporary experiences of depression on the internet.

The present study addresses the experiences of a group of women public health workers from the Rawson Hospital in Córdoba Capital, in the context of a pandemic. This study was carried out within communication as a discipline and field of action, following a qualitative methodology. By using concepts from the biographical approach, life stories became the instrument used to access the social experiences of the pandemic, collected through open interviews. From a hermeneutic, existential and dialectical-constructivist approach, cultural analysis proposes an alternative reflection a health contingency, from the perspective of female workers. The analysis of these stories was based on two approaches. The first studies the temporal sequence of experience in three stages of a life story with a specific theme. The second approach, based on chronology, identifies experiences related to the construction of identity as women workers in the field of public health, in addition to emotions and experiences of the context. The stories show clues that allude to identity and belonging to a group, balancing between identity and difference. We identify factors about the socially assigned double role that serves as a link between the individual and collective identity of women. It was possible to obtain a direct account that reveals the changing effects of a socio-historical period so relevant for humanity.
