Introduction: Oral adverse reactions related to natural dermal fillers may originate from infiltration techniques, giving rise to swellings, nodule formation doe to local material entrapment, or displacement or migration of the material used. Objective: describe a case of orofacial foreign body reaction in an elderly patient. Case report: a 65-year-old woman was referred for oral evaluation complaining of an intraoral lesion present for 15 days. Intraoral examination revealed a mobile nodule in the lower lip left portion. After the initial consultation, incisional biopsy was performed under local anesthesia and the surgical specimen was sent for histopathological analysis. Intraoral examination revealed a soft mobile nodule in the lower lip left portion. Clinical pathological and Raman microspectroscopy analysis led to a final diagnosis of calcium hydroxyapatite dermal filler-related reaction. Conclusions: this case reinforces the possibility of dermal filler-related mucosal tissue reactions in oral cavity soft tissues.

Introduction: the high prevalence of oral disease among school children has a great impact on their health, hence the need to develop control programs and strategies at public policy level. Objective: evaluate the Oral Health Program for Mexican elementary school children. Methods: a community intervention study was conducted in two public elementary schools from the Ministry of Health in the borough of Tlalpan, Mexico City. The study sample was composed of 111 fifth grade students, 53 from Río Pánuco morning session public school as intervention group with application of the oral health program (work group), and 58 from Ignacio Rodríguez Galván school, without intervention (control group). All students were examined to determine the rate of decay, loss, temporary fillings and permanent teeth, and the community periodontal index. Inferential statistical analysis was based on Mann-Whitney U and Pearson's chi-square, with a significance level of 0.05. Data were processed with the statistical software SPSS version 22. Results: mean age was 10.9 at the intervention school and 10.8 at the control school. With respect to the primary dentition index, the average of decayed teeth was 0.49 (CI 95 % 0.07-0.91) for the school with the intervention program, and 1.10 (CI 95 % 0.70-1.51) for the school without intervention, with significant statistical differences (p= 0.003). As to the community periodontal index, 92.4 % of the children were healthy at the school with the intervention program, and 70.68 % were healthy at the school without intervention, with a significant statistical difference (p= 0.003). Conclusions: results show that the program is effective, since the school children intervened are in better oral health conditions than those in the control group, and the difference is clinically relevant.

Introduction: Ameloblastoma is a benign neoplasm that tends to be locally aggressive, with a high tendency to relapse. It is an odontogenic tumor of epithelial origin; 80% of cases occur at the mandibular level, both in branch and at an angle. It usually manifests during the third to fifth decade of life. The clinical characteristics are not determinants for the biological behavior or the prognosis of an ameloblastoma, even in many of the cases in which they are complemented with radiographs and/or histopathological samples. Objective: To report the surgical management of multicystic ameloblastoma in a radical way through a wide resection and placement of a reconstruction plate that functioned as a space maintainer, due to its unusual rapid growth. Case presentation: A clinical case of a male patient is described, who presents a tumor lesion in the right mandibular branch, with a clinical appearance of a multicystic, fast growing, follicular ameloblastoma, treated at Hospital Universitario del Caribe in Cartagena, Colombia. Data were provided on its clinical appearance, its rapid evolution, the histopathological findings and the therapeutic management performed. Conclusions: Due to its rapid growth, for this particular case, the most feasible option was to carry out the total resection of the lesion in order to avoid or reduce the possibility of relapse, followed by reconstruction with an osteosynthesis plate to restore the functionality of the temporomandibular joint and of the mandibular bone, without leaving aside the aesthetics of the patient.

Introduction: Giant-cell fibroma is a rare benign fibrous neoplasm of uncertain etiological factors and peculiar clinical-pathological characteristics. Objective: To describe the excision of giant-cell fibroma in the right jugal mucosa using surgical laser. Case report: A 33-year-old female patient, treated at the dental clinic of State University of Paraíba, due to neoplastic lesion, with slow growth in the region of the right jugal mucosa. Clinically, a single, asymptomatic tumor mass of approximately two centimeters, sessile, normocorated, with a firm consistency and a smooth surface was observed. After clinical examination, an excisional biopsy was performed for diagnostic purposes, using the surgical laser. The diagnosis, after the histopathological examination, revealed a giant-cell fibroma. The management of the excisional biopsy, in addition to having the purpose of oral diagnosis, was responsible for the treatment of the lesion, since it provided its complete removal. Second healing intention was chosen and, in order to accelerate this process, a local application with low-power red-light spectrum laser was carried out. At 7-day follow-up, adequate healing was observed, with minimal tissue change. After eight months, adequate tissue regeneration was observed without relapsed lesion. Conclusions: Removal of a giant-cell fibroma using high-power diode laser was shown to be a viable therapeutic approach for the treatment of this pathology.

Introduction: adenomatoid odontogenic tumor is a benign odontogenic tumor composed of odontogenic epithelium with mature fibrous stroma without ectomesenchymal involvement. It represents between 2 % and 7 % of these tumors. More than 90 % appear before age 30, with three clinical variants: follicular, extrafollicular and peripheral. Its clinical-radiographic aspect may vary, and it may be confused with other cystic or neoplastic lesions of the oral cavity, hence the need for an anatomo-pathological diagnosis. Objective: present a case of mandibular extrafollicular adenomatoid odontogenic tumor. Case presentation: afemale 12-year-old patient presents with asymptomatic left mandibular gum swelling, with no pathological antecedents of interest and an imprecise time of evolution. Physical examination found a round 1.5 cm swelling displacing the left mandibular gum between the lateral incisor and the canine. Radiography revealed a unilocular radiolucent lesion between teeth 42 and 43 expanding the cortical bone. The teeth involved showed no pulpal vitality. Upon reaching a clinical diagnosis of periapical cyst, surgical excision was performed and a sample was submitted to the Anatomical Pathology laboratory. The anatomo-pathological diagnosis was extrafollicular adenomatoid odontogenic tumor. Conclusions: though more common in the maxilla, adenomatoid odontogenic tumors may also occur in the mandible. Clinical and radiological features may be similar to those of other odontogenic lesions, such as dentigerous cysts, other neoplasms and periapical inflammatory lesions; therefore, the final diagnosis should be provided by anatomo-pathological evaluation.

Introduction: fractures of the orbit are common and difficult to manage. Objective: to carry out a bibliographic review on anatomical considerations, physiopathology, diagnosis, treatment and complications of orbital fractures. Methods: abibliographic review was carried out in September 2016. Journals of impact in the Web of Sciences (35 journals) were evaluated. The databases MedLine, PubMed and ScieELO were consulted with the descriptors: "orbital fracture," "treatment," and "epidemiology." Articles in English and Spanish language of the last 5 years were included. 127 articles were obtained. The study was circumscribed to 47. Analysis and integration of information: the orbit presents anatomical weakness in the floor and the medial wall, which causes greater affectation due to fractures. There are several theories that justify its onset. The diagnosis is based on clinical findings, including ophthalmological findings, and diagnostic aids, which allows choosing the therapeutic modality and avoiding complications. Conclusions: based on the mastery of anatomic and diagnostic methods, the management of these lesions has changed little in recent years. However, advances in orbital imaging, the introduction of intraoperative navigation systems, better surgical indications and implant designs have led to a reassessment of the therapeutic approach to orbital fractures. Keywords: bone fracture; diplopia; enophthalmia; orbit.

Introduction: autogenous dental reimplantation is an alternative of prosthetic, orthodontic and/or implantologic therapies for dental rehabilitation; it consists in the extraction of the dental organ and its immediate replacement into another alveolus. Success is determined by the adaptation of tissues; in the absence of this or the presence of symptoms, endodontic therapy is necessary. Objective: to describe the endodontic treatment in reimplanted tooth, highlighting the peculiarities of the appropriate therapy and the importance of the multidisciplinary treatment. Case presentation: this is a lower left premolar tooth that was reimplanted at the position of the upper left central incisor in an 11-year-old individual with cleft lip and palate. After two months of reimplantation, the patient reported spontaneous pain, and who was referred for endodontic evaluation. An image suggestive of periapical lesion was radiographically observed. Once the diagnostic tests were performed, the endodontic treatment was planned, a biomechanical preparation associated with intraconductive medication with calcium hydroxide. Three medication changes were made bimonthly; in the absence of signs and symptoms, the ducts were blocked. Clinical control exams were performed every six months in the first year and then annually. After 17 years of control, there is an absence of symptoms and periapical alterations, which indicates the success of the treatment. Conclusions: in cases of autogenous dental reimplantation where there is high occurrence of external resorption, the endodontic treatment associated with medication with calcium hydroxide is an appropriate clinical behavior for the success of the therapy performed.
