Resumen
Introduction: the most recent survey about oral health conducted in Colombia revealed that nearly 70 % of the population is partially edentulous, whereas 5.2 % will have lost all their teeth by the time they are 65-79 years old. Implant rehabilitation is an ever more common alternative which requires clinical and radiographic follow-up, panoramic radiography being a low-cost option to observe areas of bone loss, mesiodistal angulation of the implant, relationship to anatomical structures and lesions suggesting peri-implantitis. Relevant data analyses and reports are needed about radiographic findings associated with dental implants to determine the risk factors for their success in patients wearing them. Objective: determine the prevalence of and characterize the findings associated to osseointegration implants in panoramic radiographs. Methods: a cross-sectional observational descriptive study was conducted of 10 000 digital panoramic radiographs chosen by convenience sampling at radiology centers from the city of Bogotá, Colombia, of which 543 made up the study sample, due to the presence of implants. Each implant was evaluated for location, position, angulation and distance from adjacent structures, using the software Clínicalview® (Orthopantomograph OP200D, Instrumentarium, USA). Results: the frequency of radiographs with implants was 5.43 % with a total 1 791 implants and an average 3.2 per radiograph. Implants were more common on the upper maxilla with a supracrestal location and an angulation of 10.3 degrees. In 32 % implant-tooth or implant-implant distances were below optimum values. 40.9 % had been restored and 1.2 % showed lesions compatible with peri-implantitis. Conclusions: a large proportion of the implants examined exhibit a risk factor affecting their long-term viability, namely angulation, supracrestal or crestal position, proximity to teeth or other implants, or not being restorable.

Introduction: the clinical success of a restoration is strongly associated with the quality and durability of the ceramic-cement resin interface. In order to obtain an adequate union between these materials of different nature surface treatments are used and achieve mechanical retention or chemical interaction. Objectives: to check if any method promotes a true chemical bond between lithium disilicate ceramics and resin cement. As well as determineif there is any treatment that reports bonding values comparable to hydrofluoric acid and silane (gold standard). Methods: a systematic literature review was developed based on the PRISMA strategy, where the databases were searched: Science Direct, Pubmed (MEDLINE), EMBASE, Springer Journal, SciELO with MeSH and free terms from 2005 to November 2016 for articles in English and Spanish on surface treatments for lithium disilicate. Results: from 58 publications selected a sample of 21 articles. Two articles reported high risk of bias. Conclusions: hydrofluoric acid and silane continue to be the method with the highest and most reliable adhesion values in the literature. Universal adhesives are an alternative to promote chemical adhesion additional to the silane. Diamond burs, Nd: YAG and Er: YAG laser are not recommended as surface treatments.

Resumen
Introduction: due to its high incidence, maxillofacial trauma is one of the greatest challenges for public health services. Protocols improve the quality of care and reduce variation in clinical practice, hence the crucial importance of high-quality protocolization in the area of trauma care. Objective: evaluate the care protocols followed in the emergency management of polytrauma, maxillofacial polytrauma and severe maxillofacial trauma. Methods: a descriptive cross-sectional qualitative study was conducted from May to June 2015. An online search was carried out for protocols for the emergency management of polytrauma, maxillofacial polytrauma and severe maxillofacial trauma in Spanish, English and Portuguese. A parallel national search was performed by telephone and electronic mail. An evaluation tool was developed and an evaluation team was formed. Estimations were based on integers, indices and means. Results: the Protocol for Initial Management of Polytrauma scored 275 points, followed by Advanced Trauma Life Support with 229 (total difficulty index 0.93 and 0.70, respectively). The foreign maxillofacial protocol scored 150 points (total difficulty index 0.46). Item 2 scored 128 points (total difficulty index 1). The protocol from Calixto García Hospital scored 223 points (total difficulty index 0.73), and the ones from Matanzas and Villa Clara scored 120 each (total difficulty index 0.32). Item 4 had the highest score, with 74 points (total difficulty index 0.54). Conclusions: the highest quality foreign protocols were Initial Management of Polytrauma and Advanced Trauma Life Support, and the best developed item was number 2. The best national protocols were Management of Severe Trauma, from Calixto García Hospital, and the ones from the provinces of Villa Clara and Matanzas. The best developed item was number 4. Keywords: protocol; maxillofacial trauma; evaluation; polytrauma.

Resumen
Introduction: The Von Willebrand Disease is the most common bleeding disorder, and is still underdiagnosed for several reasons, including lack of knowledge about the disease. Purpose: The aim of the present study was to assess the knowledge that students attending the last year of an undergraduate dentistry programme had about dental care for patients with Von Willebrand's disease. Methods: a questionnaire containing objective questions was administered to 87 students to gather data on the following variables of interest: gender; programme term; knowledge about VWD; knowledge about the coagulation factor involved in VWD; tests to diagnose VWD; signs and symptoms of VWD; procedures required during care of VWD patients; and medications that should be avoided. The data were analysed using IBM SPSS (21.0) at a significance level of 5%. Results: 87 students responded to the questionnaire. Only 21 students (21.14%) reported having some knowledge about Von Willebrand’s Disease: 49.02% correctly answered which coagulation factor is involved in Von Willebrand’s Disease, and 29.4% correctly answered the question on diagnostic testing. Conclusion: Students attending the last year of an undergraduate dentistry programme have limited knowledge about Von Willebrand’s Disease.

Resumen
Introduction: understanding the impact of metabolic disorders on health has become a global challenge in recent years. Objective: determine the relationship between body mass index and the prevalence of dental caries among Peruvian schoolchildren. Methods: adescriptive cross-sectional correlational study was conducted of 220 schoolchildren aged 6-12 years from Huando, Huancavelica, in the year 2016. The sample was randomly selected and met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Ethical research standards were observed. Data were processed with the statistical software SPSS 21, using frequency distribution tables and the chi-squared test. Results: prevalence of dental caries was 91.82 % (CPO-D= 4.08, ceo-d= 5.81). Regarding the nutritional status, 30 children were malnourished (13.63 %) and 23 were overweight (10.45 %). The rest had a weight and height appropriate for their age, and none were obese. No statistical association was found between BMI and dental caries (p= 0.612). Conclusions: malnutrition does not predispose to the presence of carious lesions due to their multifactorial etiology, but it must be remarked that both are priority public health problems requiring the joint effort of parents and educational authorities.

Resumen
Since 2015, every 20 March, the Cuban Society of Stomatology organizes activities at the national level in greeting of the "World Day of Oral Health", promoted by the International Dental Federation since 2013.This year 2018, in its fourth edition, the conceived program reflected cognitive, educational and research aspects oriented to the promotion of a positive vision of oral health under the national motto "Optimists in search of oral health vision." The world motto was "I think in my mouth, I take care of my health"; but in our context we promote the need to think from a health approach that anticipates and creates conditions to preserve the oral health status or restore it in the initial phases in order to avoid aggravation, tooth loss and systemic repercussions. The day was developed with a large participation of professionals and technicians, in which representatives of several provinces were present and the attendance of new professionals of the union became manifest. The scientific program was coordinated by the MCs. Dr. María Rosa Sala Adam. The introductory conference "Vision of positive oral health" was in charge of Dr. Cs. Stomatological Stele of the Angels Gispert Abreu and the MCs. Dr. Jorge Luis Bécquer Águila. In it the lecturers offered a positive overview of oral health; They highlighted that this vision should guide the commitment to action in order for the profession to achieve better results at a social level in all contexts, including in our country where health promotion and the prevention of oral diseases are a priority. The Roundtable "Prevention and Control of Smoking" was then offered by the MCs. Lic. Ana Cepero Gil and the MCs. Dr. Esther Catillo. They began with the declaration of "Smoke Free Event," stating that this statement should prevail in all activities of the health sector. They also reflected the magnitude of the problem in Cuba, the implications of active and passive smoking, as well as the benefits of its prevention and control for the well-being of the population. Mention was made of the role of the health ministries and persuasive communication to prevent smoking and smoking cessation."Epidemiology" was another round table offered by Dr. Ileana Frómeta and the MSc. Dr. Gilda García in which criteria were presented to tackle the epidemiology of dental caries and chronic immunoinflammatory periodontal diseases, a topic that is of special importance for all health, given the pandemic condition that identifies both conditions with high risk of loss of the dental organs, which affects the quality of life. Then the Round Table "Teaching media," developed by the MCs. Lic. Niovis Pedro Jarro and Dr. Juana Sánchez Peraza, analyzed how to improve their development and alternatives for its application, with the aim of contributing to health education, a task that must be assumed by all the professionals and technologists of Stomatology .Dr. Ana María Blanco Céspedes spoke on health promotion and mentioned the meritorious work of the MCs. Aracelis Rivero López in the circle of interest that he directs in the municipality 10 de Octubre, in which he has achieved that the students identify with the stomatology and appropriate the need for oral health care by means of didactic methods attractive to the age group .In the final considerations, Dr. Bécquer highlighted the massive attendance and participation that enriched the presentations. He also referred to the large turnout of the new generation of stomatologists and technologists of the stomatology, responsible for continuing the path of contributions to the health of the population.

Resumen
Scientific communication pursues the objective of favoring the dissemination and exchange of research results; the way to achieve it is the scientific publication that must go a long way: from writing the manuscript, selecting the appropriate journal, passing the arbitration and, finally, submitting to the editorial process before publishing; what is described in a few words is very laborious. In our times the interest of the professionals has increased to publish the results of their investigations; all this motivated by communicating the results of the research, obtaining recognition, moving to a higher category, responding to pressure from institutions, among others; but the experience and prestige of the Cuban stomatology is not yet reflected in the publications, there are reports that say so.When the author has selected the journal, he should carefully study the guidelines for authors; in our magazine they are quite explanatory and with following them step by step, at least the formal aspect of the article is achieved; However, sometimes this does not happen, many authors do not take them into account and 80% of the articles before sending them to arbitration are rejected. Some may seem like a very drastic measure, but it is based on the fact that non-compliance with the aforementioned guidelines makes it difficult not only for the arbitrators to work from a scientific point of view, but also for the editorial process.Among the most frequent errors found before sending the articles to arbitration are: unstructured summary, excess of words as well as tables and figures, as well as the recommended size of the latter, outdated bibliographic references, among others.Once the article is submitted to arbitration, it is rigorous and discouraging for authors who receive the signs with displeasure, without realizing that the arbitrators work in an unrecognized and anonymous way, so that the article has greater quality and transparency.Stomatologists must understand that the basic standards agreed upon globally by the scientific editors of biomedical journals are becoming more rigorous every day, so we are committed to increasing our publications with high quality in order to expose the work we carry out in Cuba to the world scientific community. in the world for the sake of oral health.
