This article analyzes the current social constructions of the old age of men and women over 65 years old, from rural territories such as the Aconcagua Valley, in the context of demographic, productive and social transformations that occurred in the last decades. We use a qualitative methodology, based on the analysis of 33 in-depth interviews. The results reveal gender differences both in the meanings and current experiences of old age, as well as in the traits and social place that they occupy. Men focus their identities on participation in productive work and organizations of protection and care of water and the valley, an aspect that coexists with the perception of frustration and greater fragility in front of physical deterioration, while for women a central prevailing focus is in domestic work and care for others, as well as participation in social groups, but this time oriented to the recreation and self-care of the body.

The author hypothesizes that science and technology have positive and negative consequences for humanity, full of intention and purpose, and reflection of views, intentions, prejudices and privative objectives for each society. From this framework, the paper focuses on the field of bio/gene/ nanomedicine, which seeks to redress alleged disabilities, diseases and defects, but installs the ethical dilemma of whom decides what is disability, illness, or "defect ". The author proposes a path from the Declaration on Science from the World Science Conference of Unesco in 1999.

In reference to the Twin Towers attack, the author delineates the characteristics of political terrorism and declares as its central objective to seal of democratic space. Underlying to this strategy is the idea that it will lead to political polarization which will force victims and critics of power to follow those who lead terrorism. This, he says, in detriment of the dominated, because on one side, the dominant response is almost always state terrorism, which traps and destroys leaders and members of the opposing social groups. It postulates that terrorism should be judged and punished as all criminal acts, but also avoided, prevented and disabled. He then analyzes the thesis of the clash of civilizations, and Bush’s strategic answer.

The authors address the challenge of integrating conventional medicine, psychosomatic medicine and alternative medicine; necessary, as they say, not only for clinical and economic reasons, but for the challenge of creating a comprehensive theory that integrates the richness of data seemingly disparate and theories of health and disease in an organized whole. It is about reaching an integrated medicine. In this paper the authors identify eight founding visions of nature, each of which generates different hypotheses about nature and medicine, and that have led to three different concepts of medicine. The article discusses how the knowledge of these hypotheses can help to the goal of integrating medicine.

The purpose of this paper is to show that the phenomenon of globalization promoted by the West, has been setting up a scenario that threatens to reduce the identity to a ‘logic of war’ between ourselves and others. It also shows the West from other voices, whose resistance arguments to any reductionist view of human experience question the ‘monolog universalization’ of the West, and urges us to reassess our closest cultural legacy and identity, and to rediscover the communitarian as a realm of gathering and empowerment of those constituent needs and expressions of what is human.

The paper considers the socio-psychological and epistemological utopia, and utopia arises connected with emotion. Check the conditions of economic modernization and democratization that have led to the disbelief of utopias, and the values that give identity to individuals who adopt them. It emphasizes the need to reformulate the conception of the phenomenon of power and its practices, and the importance that the educational task is to re-enchant new generations utopias.

In the authors vision, modernity carries within itself differentiation, and because of that, its articulation is a conflictive process. He notes that the passage of discourse from the social body of modernity to the fragmented body of today does not produce consensus, and that the passage of the unitary speech of the social to the fragmentation of the speeches does not mean the end of conflicts, but only establishes a new era for them. In this approach, the problems of the present and the future challenges are overseen, and a mapping of the features that account for the fragmentary discourse is outlined.
